If there’s one thing I truly appreciated about Jay, it’s that he played Joey’s songs just right.
He didnt appear to try and make them better or play them with his own style, etc. That was THE song, so that’s how it gets played. And I’m sure a lot of people loved Jay for that.
Best of luck to him, and Slipknot. I hope both have fruitful journeys ahead.

@@BlameTheLagMassive Joey fan here. That said,even Joey was playing the songs differently. Slipknot is not note for note band like Meshuggah. There's room for improv while maintaining the backbone of the songs.

@@matenorth That’s what I’m saying! I love the way Jay played Joey’s songs. He played them “right.” I’m not saying he played them note for note. Even Jim openly says he doesn’t memorize his own solos. He plays a different version of it nearly every time.
Also, I like how much harder Jay hits than Joey did during live performances. Sometimes, you couldn’t even hear Joey’s cymbals. Jay, that’s never been a problem.
Love it! My only regret is I didn't get to see Slipknot while you were drumming for them 😭 So thank you for these incredible videos.

I was a huge unqualified critic of Jay at first. Joey was my idol drummer, Slipknot a huge influence. There was a gap for sure. Watching and hearing this shows how much Jay grew into the role. I still miss the energy and commitment Joey put into songs like this but the sound and feel Jay got here is pretty damn awesome. Respect!

The tone of ALL of the drums is phenomenal for this genre. Snare has SO much crack, toms have just the right amount of sustain, and kick sounds like a metal kick should, IMO. Great playing, too. You did an incredible job filling impossible shoes for a decade. I hope you have great things coming for you in other endeavors.
This song looks so much fun to play. Joey's drumming is just pure creativity.
Ya know I always thought I'd love to be in a band.... But the older I get the more I realise the road crew guys are the real band of brothers. They don't have the hassle of fame and money.... They really are the ones that have the us against the world attitude.

Do you guys even know the definition of precision? He played multiple stick and foot patterns around the kit with different tempos and stayed in time. If he wasn’t precise then where was he sloppy? Just because he played like a bat out of hell doesn’t mean it was lacking in precision.

@@Lemons2812 He didn't stay in time at all. He rushes on fills and falls behind on blast beat. He'd be in trouble if they were playing to a kick track. Since they aren't the band has to adjust to his inconsistencies.

Since JOEY's weight was significant, it would have been difficult for any drummer to take over, but JAY created the perfect second part of SLIPKNOT.

broooo without a doubt, Jay plays the drums much better than before. Before he was more disorderly and very fast, removing harmony, now he's more methodical, sounding much better.

You nailed it. Definitely a very different style it seems compared to Joey's infamous Eyeless intro video, but honestly Jay, you're awesome. I don't know what was said behind the scenes about the departure, but all I know is that it's their biggest mistake yet. Like many have said, nobody thought Joey could be replaced, but damn you proved us all wrong.
