rip yeah I've now add 10g to 12 o'clock on my CX and its at 333SW
lol xD
Imo underspec racket with shit ton of lead in the hoop will not play as good as regular stock with normal sw at around 325.
Thanks Jonas and Nikki. I appreciate that you´re so honest testing these frames. Actually, that´s all that we tennis players have to know about the tennis racquet market in 2024 =) a kind of stagnation... all big manufacturers are playing it safe, PJ´s are mostly boring and cheap, QC is awful and they´re just using an old technologies with the new marketing names. In such conditions customization (even of quite old racquets) for what weight/balance/SW each player really needs will give much more than just buying a new stick under the influence of advertising and in pursuit of fashion
Seems so Dumb for Dunlop to send you a racquet to review that is so off-spec that your conclusion is "it's unplayable". This level of Corporate Stupidity should be illegal.
He said it was Tennis Warehouse Europe that sent it, not Dunlop.
@@gowzahr That's even worse as Dunlop sent it to TWE to sell !! No doubt, all the CX200 sent to TWE have same issue
The problem with these reviews is the fact that you both play with relatively archaic/traditional styles. You tend to still favour type of rackets that are slowly disappearing in popularity.
Interesting comments about the CX200. I bought one of the last generation CX200 tours, which are on close out sale at TW, for $100. I previously used a Biomimetic200 tour and liked it. My first hit with the new one showed it needs extra weight, so I added 6 grams at 10 & 2 o’clock, and another 6 just above the grip. Now, it’s beautiful. Great feel, touch, and swing weight feels like it’s about 330-335, so it’s got enough punch. I ended up buying a second one.
Good stuff guys. I'm a Speed MP 22 user and I don't feel any compulsion to even demo the 24. PJ just looks a bit meh. How many times can you rehash a black and white pj? Dunlop 400 sounds interesting though 🤔
This gen and last gen cx 400 tour one of the most slept on racquets in the last few years, can get a really good price on them and I have to say one of the best 100sq modern frames on the market
Love all the vids guys but playing a set changing rackets every 2 games gives you no idea what a racket is like no? Not trying to be a pain in the ass but you could hit 8 balls and change racket advising the previous is terrible y’knpw..
Dunlop with Srixon have very bad quality control. I have played with 200 AG4D, Biomimetic and in the past Relevations. All of them had a better quality control than Yonex, in terms of weight and SW. Specs was the same along 3 rackets of each series that I had.
would be good to see how the Blade 100 v9 compares to to the cx 400 think the the strings are tighter in the middle and 8 down the the yoke which would give it more control?
Hey Jonas, any significant difference between the new CX 400 tour and the old one? I have the old one currently.
It is a new mold and this one felt like it had a longer dwell time and a little nicer feel. But the older one is still good
Holy cow Jonas, you are hitting so much better. Are you putting in more hours of tennis or has Spain worked some magic on your game?
Thanks :) More tennis and work!
one could say that he hasn't forgotten to play some tennis!
I love how Nikki destroys most of the racquets!
Blade an absolute "wishy-washy" frame these days... lol ,)
I think you would do a comparison video between Pro Staff and Pure Strike both 97 and 100 version.
Jonas, is the Swift 99 and Wilson Steam 16x 20 similar??? ciao, John
I think what Nikki said about the lack of weight in the head of Blades probably applies more to the v8 version. The older versions (kblade, v4, v5) tended to have noticeably more weight in the head, higher average SW even without additional customization and they were considerably stiffer. So that's why older versions are still loved by many players for better stability, power and plow
Blades and any Wilson racquets are like Babolat racquets with their quality control, its terrible and Nikkis racquet was most likley below spec, a lot of reviewers of the new V9 version and proved that the swing weight is way below the advertised spec
@@CH-yp5by v9 was announced by Wilson to have a better QC and overall stability so its a pity. Although I and some tennisnerds can easily do any racquet customization, lots of regulat customers who just want their frames to play as advertised could be disappointed
The Percept is 1 of the nicest looking racquets out there, i have 2 of the 97L.
Any chance you’ve heard something about Prince Phantoms in 2024?
a few army/camo inspired paintjobs seen lately on Instagram. Also, "Zylon" is writen in the throat area of both the 290 gram 16x18 and the 107 G cross bar Phantom.
Too many warzones on earth right now to come out with such a choice.
I have the 305 demo arriving next week… looking forward to the play test, possibly competing with it!
Did you review the CX 200 tour 16x19 or 18x20? Why the leather grip only on the 18x20? Given that leather grips weigh considerably more than synthetic ones, how much does this factor in overall specs, making SW more a factor of grip type than racquet material distribution? This racquet line always confused me, and the reviews confuse me even more as they are all over the place, love, hate, power, control. Is there an issue with quality control at Dunlop or is this polarisation in preferences just a personal player issue? I am drawn to Dunlop racquets (my first graphite racquet was the legendary Max200G - loved it), but this confusion in reactions to them has turned me off so far.
I was very close to switching to the CX 400 Tour last iteration. It had no real faults for me if I added some handle weight, but I wanted a little easier spin access and a little more dwell time--the exact two things they seem to have addressed. If I hadn't switched racquets in November I'd be impulse buying right now.
Let us know how it goes
Review to come next week 👍🏻
@@Tennisnerd Great! I am very interested.
If Dunlop's output control is so bad, why bother with them. You just could be lucky with the 400 Tour. It seems like an old story for them...
Shouldn’t Wilson just stayed with the v7 Blade, and then released cosmetic updates instead?🙂
Best Blade so far in my opinion
Agreed haha
Such a bad take. Can’t take this comment seriously
Every 4-5 yrs updates is all they need to do but these corporate$ want OUR $$..
Hey could you comment on the Vcore 98 Tour? Couldn't find the point on your podcast with TW Chris where you talk about it. Play with radical pro so interested in comparison given specs are identical.
really enjoy this style of review! unique and interesting. thank you!
Thank YOU
Out of interest what racquet does Nikki play if he ever has to play competitively?
Now that Wilson no longer makes mid sized Pro Staffs 😥, I use the CX200 Tour. Still prefer the feel of a Pro Staff
Genuinely love the honest negativity from Nikki in these reviews. Great stuff.👍
Anyone that can recommend a racket model for a USTA 3.0 30 year old male?
I love the original nBlade 98 19x20 (2004-2007). Would always pick it over all the new Blades.
Cx400 tour ftw. I switched to the old one after 20 years on a hyper hammer 5.2 and hundreds of tennisnerd videos and testing racquets. Game still sucks but happy with my choice
Gold star for watching many TN videos! 🏆
This video was all over the place, with subjective comments that may or may not apply to other people. I find it amusing to dimsiss a racket as unplayable just because you personally had trouble with it. Not sure what to do with the info you give without trying them out myself. Thanks for clarifying that the Yonex is just a cosmetic update, I am reading very different things on the net.
It seemed like something was up with cx 200 though as it was so off-spec? 16 points under the specified figure sounds a lot to me.
Great review, nice couple ❤
Thanks! Haha
@@Tennisnerd no review yet on the new Yonex Ezone 2024?
Totally agree Head Speed MP erratic and crap paint job 😢
10:33 😂 This channel is so great
Are you guys sure that Yonex is updating racquets every 3 years? Does that mean the Ezone will get an update next year? Or does it mean it will get an update in 3 years? We need a VDM-less EZ98 🥺
Next year
what did you string the CX 400 tour with ????? You should be telling us this info ? OR have the same string on every racket and you only have to say once?
I say it in the video.
I had to laugh with you both. Picked up my new Blade 98 16/19 and the head felt a little bit vague trying to swing through. I added just 1 inch of lead tape either side at slightly north of 9&3 (2 grams total) prior to this video and I now know exactly where my sweetspot is. I feel validated 😁
Awesome, enjoy!
Hi Jonas, if you aren't a fan of the speed mp, what is your favourite 100 inch head MP racquet?
Also do you like the Strike 100 16x20 the most of out of all the Babolat 100 inch racquets?
Thanks mate.
Hey, I like the Dunlop CX 400 Tour a lot and the Blade V8 100. The Babolat is not bad, a bit on the firmer side and more powerful
I'm surprised you both hate the new speed mp. I found it quite nice. I don't necessarily prefer how it feels compared to the prev gen but it's really solid on contact and the stability is out of this world.
Hate is a strong word, I think it is a good racquet in many ways, but we both struggled with the string bed, which feels somewhat inconsistent.
Thanks Jonas, sad to hear you won't be reviewing the CX200 tours as I've been rocking the previous gen (18x20) and eyeing on the update.
I might do it in the future, but it has been tough to get a hold of demos. It used to be one of my fave racquets.
Jonas Do you think its better to just keep with Head Speed MP 2022 rather than 2024? Is there even any difference besides the horrible cosmetic and material crap they have placed on it? I have heard also that while Speed MP has little differences that Head Speed Pro has actually had a positive update?
The Speed Pro is for me a much better racquet than the MP but that is a personal choice ofc
@@Tennisnerd I am yet to try new Speed Pro but I feel I am going to not like it compared to Speed MP. Also when is new Head Boom Pro coming out this year?
What rackets would you recommend if going from pure aero to a more controlled racket but still having some of the same characteristics?
Cx400 tour
Pavs or pa23
'Promo SM'
That Niki so disliked the 23mm beamed Speed reminded me of how much he dug the 22mm Prestige Tour in an earlier review. Did he ever pick one up?
He is mainly using the Ezone 98 these days
Nice! Thanks for letting us know. Gr8 video!
Have you been working on your footwork, Jonas? Looking good 😎
Thanks! Yeah, well I always try to improve although it is difficult sometimes with all the testing, but lately some things seem to click into place.
I really want to hear your opinion on cx 200 tour 18x20.
Yes, me too, might try it but a little later on.
What are you guys playing with nowadays?
I am switching to pickleball…kidding aside, right now I am using the Ezone 100 for matches
4:42 😨
I have one handed back hand, i am playing with a pure drive 2021, I play with a lot spin and power and need more control and confort( minor shoulder injury). I play only in hard courts in my city. I am thinking in cx 400, sx300 tour, head radical mp or vcore... I am a bit loss. Can you give me a advice( I live in a region and country where i cant play with rackets before I buy)
The Dunlop CX 400 Tour is a beautiful racquet for that game style. I can recommend it. If you want other options, I would say Wilson Blade 100, Pure Strike 100 16/20, or Yonex Percept 100D.
choose the pro staff perfect for your game. i have the same style as you, heavy spin and one handed backhand. the pro staff is amazing in the precision and spin potential. the only draw back is that there is no free power in comparison to rackets that are known for having super easy power such as your old pure drive or a pure aero,
Prince Tour 98 is also worth to try…
@@TennisnerdI have a one handed back hand & hit flat. Play with the pro staff, and want a little more forgiving racket and that can help me gain more spin. Thinking of the dunlop 400 tour. Any suggestions Jonas?
Would you switch to the V9 if you had the V8 16x19
Yes
Probably not
I don't know why on earth they make them so light..... for god sake.... i don't wanna have to add 30g of lead. Player frames should be at least 330g strung. They did the same thing with the H19 Wilson rackets (Ultra Pro).... too fkn light.
Making it light allows you to add weight where you want. I prefer racquets that are at least 10 points head light, so I add 15 to 20g weight in the handle, some lead at 3 and 9 and a tiny bit at 12. Some other players may prefer a more head heavy setup and add all the weight in the hoop. The problem with the Ultra Pro is that they filled the handle with foam. So you need to dig this out if you want to add silicone. I also don't like the string pattern of the 16x19. Too tight, I wish it was more like a Pro Staff.
its time to wake up this aint the 90 anymore.time of heavy racquets are gone and they are lighter even in atp.
@@agradina Yeah, but those are more powerful tweener racquets like the Pure Drive. Thin beamed players racquets need to have a bit of weight to have any sort of power.
I'm not 50 years old dude. I'm young and play at a high level and am a pretty built guy. Most rackets my mates have feel light in my hands. I don't get why they don't just put the weight there. Most high level players need at the very least 330g static weight. And these rackets all call for at least 20g additions... so why not add more weight so that high level players can just add a few grams to bring it up to spec. It makes no sense to have to add 30g to a racket. So if you ask me... I think they are doing this to pander to the delusional needs of amateurs who want to play with player frames. Otherwise no other reason to downspec these rackets so much.@@agradina
Think about what you just said... you add 15 to 20g!!!! lol.... if that doesn't spell UNDERSPEC to you... i don't know what will. What's next.... you buy the frame without the handle and build your own handle? It's getting silly. They need to leave player frames to be player frames. If low level players like the way player frames look... then get good!!! WE shouldn't have to add 30g to a racket just because Uncle Bob wants to imagine he is Federer and wants tennis brands to make these rackets more accessible to him.@@goldencalf5144
Did you really say people shouldn't be using 95's anymore? I love hitting with my SV Core 95 from 2017
Yeh that wasnt a nice statement to make.
Well, 95s are not common since they are demanding to use, but I still like them. And the VCORE 95, with its Isometric head shape, plays more like a 98. You should use whatever puts a smile on your face.
Weight at 10 and 2 on blade did Nicki recommend?
He was talking about, “over the sweet spot”, which would be 3 & 9, but he was indicating just a little higher than that, but not as high as 10 & 2.
@@dustyroot4708the sweet spot on my Blade 98 v9 16x19 is two crosses higher than the 3/9 midpoint (ball contact is mushier in the actual midpoint). How about just adding weight at 12 or 11/1 since the v9 is supposedly more stable than v8?
Hopefully Jonas replies to these comments, I’m curious too, I’m now using the Blade v9 18x20 too
Do you consider the Ezone 98 to be a controll racquet, like the Wilson Blade?
No more powerful
My 2024 CX 200 also has a sub 300 strung SW
That is nuts
@@Tennisnerd to be fair though, my Blade 98 v9 had a 314 strung SW, and it was middle-of-the-pack of the dozen 98 v9's my local tennis shop received, so some of the v9's might be very underpowered as well
@@glademaster do you prefer blade or cx 200 ?
@@sssss12902 CX200 feels better (more solid and consistent on impact, whereas i feel the blade frame deform in various ways) but somehow the balls I hit from the blade is more difficult for opponents to return. I don’t have matching SW, strings, and weight so I don’t know what exactly is making the difference.
@@glademaster thanks for the reply, i am struggling to choose between CX 200, Blade and Ezone 98 any advices which one to buy? and which would you pick?
“Very few people should play with a 95” - I can play perfectly well with my 93sq Prestige Mid 2019. I can hit just as heavy as with my 100 racquet(Pure Aero) but is far more maneuverable and controlled. I own a PT57A too(95sq head), that one is truly underpowered and would never play a match with.
Hi Jonas, how was the control of Cx400 tour? In the new mold strings looks more evenly spaced than the previous gen. Did you notice that also?
Yes it was more evenly spaced for sure. Really liked it but I probably had more directional control with the predecessor
Yes, in the new one the crosses are a bit wider. If you hit a flat ball a la Karue Sell, go for the previous one. It's super cheap now.
Bought the Dunlop Cx400 tour last year and my search for a racquet is over. Absolutely perfect for me as an older man. Strung with Technifibre x one biphase at 52lbs. Perfect. Lots of control and power, very comfortable
There is a new VOLKL VOSTRA 9 305 GR 16X 19 0.9 HEADLIGHT not in the market yet !
When do we have a blade only review?
There is one?
@@Tennisnerd The review where you compare the 98-16x19, 98-18x20 and the 100 🤓
