HEAD FXP is made by GOSEN which is Japanese string company and famous used by Jim Courier, the string is probably same as GOSEN AK PRO that was used by Anna Kulnilkova, that is interesting for me because I used it in the crosses with PRO HURRICANE TOUR in the mains 17 years ago.
This prestige Guy with the sonic pro and the fxp in the cosses sounds very interesting
I use to like Wasabi / Wasabi-X a lot, a shaped and a slick round hybrid, but Wasabi-X doesn't hold tension very well. What I did instead was to put Caviar 1.24 in the crosses 3 lbs lower. It's a firm but strangely comfortable string, it's not precisely slick but it holds tension exceptionally. So Wasabi at 45 lbs / Caviar at 42 , same snapback than Was/WasX and it lasts forever.
Wow! that is super low tensions. Unsurprising that they would not retain at such low tensions. Must have felt like swinging a sponge!
@@n-da-bunka2650 Since both are rather control strings with high spin potential, the feel it's actually not soft or mushy, it's very crisp. But that's on a Ezone 98 which has a rather dense string pattern, in a more open string pattern racket I would definitely go higher.
I'm going to try Tourna Big Hitter Silver 7 Tour 17 in the mains at 48 lbs and Solinco Confidential 17 in the crosses at 46 lbs. in my Pure Aero. Still looking for my go to setup and will stick with it. I just have a lot of different types of string and have been stringing my own racquets since around 1994 when I was a teaching pro. Weak players actually won't know the difference when it comes to strings & tensions. Higher level players can feel the subtle and minute differences in setups. However, tennis players of all levels can become head cases when looking for the "Holy Grail" of string setups. Just stick with what you feel works best for you is the ideal place to be. It's also the least expensive road to take. ✌

@@JV-py3lg Yes! S7T is a good string. I like the blend of crisp firmness, spin, control, and consistent/solid feel. It's truly an underrated string while being inexpensive. I was thinking of a full bed but with the crosses lower in tension for even more spin & power. Just testing with Confidential in the crosses tomorrow. My other stick has S7T in the mains and gut n the crosses. I think I strung the gut too tight at 54 with S7T in the mains at 48. Feels a little boardy.
I got just normal Big Hitter Silver 16ga reel that needs to get finished. It’s a great all arounder and feels consistent. Racquet is Head Prestige MP, extended it 0.5inch and added leather grip under the tacky Wilson overgrip. Tension is 39lbs. I’m barely good enough to play with it but it’s fun!
Sounds like a recipe for disaster (tennis elbow).
@@msalvs I’ve found as long as the racquet has a balance of at least 4pts HL you’re good. As it gets heavier you start getting into 8pts HL. This counterbalance is key to preventing tennis elbow and it also absorbs impact shock
I tried Confidential 1.25 mains with Ice Code 1.25 crosses, didn’t really like it much. Shaped Solinco cuts thru Ice Code really quickly so no snap and tension loss was pretty quick. There’s so many more options for great poly-poly blend. I know you like Head strings and rackets. Head Lynx Tour mains with Lynx Touch crosses is one incredible blend. Torolines are pretty good: Wasabi, Super Toro, o-Toro mains with Wasabi X or Enso Pro crosses ✌🏽

I am having this built now but I also don't break strings hardly ever so a set often last me a year which is insane as I used to go through a set every two months when I was younger.
I always find it interesting almost all Ezones are strung tight, as that is my experience with it too. I found it very difficult to use without a very firm bed.

Have you ever tried out any stings from Tier One? I think they’re call Tru Pro now. FireWire might be the most spin friendly string I’ve ever used.

My Technifibre DC315 is being strung with Solinco Confidential mains/Ice Code crosses (both 17 gauge). Will report back next week after I get some play on it.
I like Tour Bite Soft in the mains and Head Lynx Touch in the crosses.

Probably not. Carlos Moya was the first to win a grand slam with a pure drive in 98’. We’ve had over 20 years of stiff Babolats and poly strings. Maybe the trend has been towards lighter static weights so perhaps lower tension is used to compensate
I tried Tour Bite on the mains and Hyper-G Round on the crosses, both 1.30mm at 53lbs. It worked very well for me.
Can't get better than Luxilon Alu Power. My new favorite is Alu Power Rough in Mains and Element in the crosses. Lots of control, spin and very comfortable!

Interesting how the board just says "gut" with no mention of the brand. I'm guessing they're all Babolat VS since that's seems to be the most common in use with the pros. But I think Wilson is fairly common as well. Personally, I like Luxilon natural gut since it feels a tiny bit crisper than Wilson and Babolat...
The most Polys are strung at the same tension M/C. My Stringer told me always go lower with the crosses.What is the difference?

Poly/poly hybrids are complete nonsense. Fokina is the ultimate tennis broscientist.
@@msalvs indeed I had 2 polys: Strike/HyperG Soft and Strike/Volkl V-Torque Tour (copoly). My intention was to soften up the Strike which I like a lot but can be difficult at times. It's like they shadowed Strike completely...had no control, no feel, nothing. Both setups felt the same also. Couldn't tell much about it except that they were softer and lacked control.
Using Strike only again... instantly I've recognised every feature it has and could adapt my game accordingly.
Not saying hybrids are worthless. It's just hard to get imo. Next level of nerdiness

Solinco now makes Hyper-G in round and shaped. What do you think of mixing those? Any other strings that make a shaped and round variation of themself?
That is a combo that works pretty well. I would put the round Hyper-G in the crosses. I don't know any other brand at the moment that does that, no.

Depends on where you are in your tennis journey. If you’re in juniors, working on developing your game, and/or want to play at a competitive level I would agree. If you’re more casual or don’t have aspirations to play at a highly competitive level, then there’s nothing wrong with either. Being a gear nerd is an out for a lot of people to focus on things outside of their game. How many times do people try and use gear as a reason for why they lost? The less variables you’re changing, the more you’ll also be able to assess how well you’re improving, or not.
This is coming from someone who was more of a racquet/string nerd in juniors, played mid-high level D3, and am now older and realizing I should’ve been more focused on my game after a certain point.
Because I am using an aluminum racquet Nylon gut is what I use and when I need to replace, I am having strings strung at 55 pounds.

Many strings at the top of most popular strings are very similar. Comes down to best price vs performance. For that, can't beat Signum Pro Plasma Hextreme 17g or MSV Focus Hex 1.23. Don't believe me? Try them. Both under $10 and play excellent.
MSV Focus Hex is at least as good as the other shaped strings from bigger brands. Personally I like it even better 👌😁

@@nakmuay5034 It is stiff for sure, but objectively it is not stiffer than any other popular shaped strings. If you look up the stiffness data you will see that Focus Hex has about the same stiffness rating (often it is even slightly less stiff) as the other popular shaped strings. Look up the data on Tennis Warehouse university they have measured the properties of a lot of strings and MSV Focus Hex is exactly in the same range as the big brands.

Since I need all the help I can get, found success with VS mains, NXT crosses strung tight in my weighted ProStaff. Can hit the ball hard with good control.
For the rest of us it will be too powerful and with low durability.

Interesting observation.
Tsisipas uses 4g. That said, most players use strings that are the same brand as their racquet (i.e. Wilson > Luxilon), and ALU Power has way better playing characteristics than 4g. I'm surprised that any player on tour would choose 4g over ALU.
