The four original founding members of the group from the Forest Hills neighborhood of NYC have indeed died, most from cancer related illnesses. Their legacy is that they did develop and start the punk rock music style. They were the first. While not great musicians they wrote their own material and put on an exciting energetic show. R.I.P. guys you left your mark.
Death from Detroit , and The Electric Eels , to name a couple of garage bands in the early 70's who had the same broad style , could be given credit for " Inventing " Punk , but , it was a continuation of a mid - 60's garage style of rock . The Sonics and others in 66' had a template that was very similar . I know full - on Ramones fans will disagree - either way - The Ramones were great ! Just not " the First " - no - one was .

Some things have to be felt/experienced... "punk" was one of them. In its initial concept, it was fast, brutal and stripped down; so were the places to "experience" it, the fans, and the people who made the music. "Danger" was always an element, both real and perceived.
@@uzeriks I saw them live at least 3 times: CBGBs, CBGBs theater and Brighton (England). Maybe also Central Park. Only in CBGBs ('76) did I lose my hearing
Saw the Ramones at the Agora Ballroom in Houston in 1981, then at the Keystone in Palo Alto, CA in 1983. Saw them a couple of times after that in the Bay Area. Always small venues. Those were some of the highest energy shows I have ever seen. I still can visualize their non-stop delivery, just like this video... Wow!.. Un-friggin-believable...
The Ramones live were something else. Flat out, four to the floor, from the word go, and no let up until they stopped. On a personal level, they may have been utterly dysfunctional, but turn them loose on stage, and no-one else was like them.
+Cliff Hanley I disagree. If any of the major punk bands should be called New Wave, it's the Clash. They were their own thing & didn't really have the conventional punk sound like Ramones or Stooges or the Pistols, & the Clash also experimented with other genres like reggae. It's that experimental aspect that makes their sound more like New Wave then punk. Ramones were from NY but that doesn't make their sound New Wave
CJ explained that to play that fast, you have to hold the bass low otherwise you wound your wrist and fingers. It took him quite a while to realise that and find the right position 🎼🤠♠️🇫🇷🇨🇭🌺😊🎸
#AloneTogether #WorldWar3 #covid-19 Song of the Century for sure. Was lucky to see the Ramones live in 77 through 86 in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I'm old but I saw the greatest rock n roll and PUNK concerts!

This guys never heard of Iggy Pop. And if you're even going that far Iggy was highly influenced by Morrison going up on stage head full of acid and just killing it.
Like Velvet Underground, Stooges, and NYD were all precursors to punk that influenced all the "punk" bands like Sex Pistols and The Ramones and The Damned
@@TheMostBoringGuy Those three bands are absolutely where the elements of punk started to coalesce. All in and around the New York scene in the 70s. Their sound and especially their ATTITUDE was huge in creating the idea of "punk" music. They weren't the first to play hard and fast and sing about drugs and fucking and being poor and misunderstood, but they were some of the first to do it with a style that really spoke to guys like the Ramones, Blondie, the Dead Boys etc
what is it about the ramones. that we love there is something magical about the way they pull of 2 minute songs that feel like 10 fucking minutes it wouldn't be appropriate and it wouldn't be respectful to joey if I didn't swear here. fuck
They were always pop as punk was always pop...they were inspired by bubblegum girl groups from the 60’s. It always had that feel, just sped up and stripped down but it was always melodic and always catchy. Now the stooges were never really “pop” in that same way, they were the other wing I guess you could say on the musical spectrum but the Ramones sang about the beach, girls, cars, and general fun things like the dickies did after them. Seems pretty pop to me
I’ve always wanted to know why Marky plays most of this on the ride cymbal live. I assumed this was something he started doing later in their career but obviously they’ve been doing this since 78
I think this song is genius. It's a fairly repetitive song with minimum changes throughout about a life that is fairly repetitive with minimal changes throughout. Brilliant IMO
I wound up buying a Romones original used in concert mid-size drum from a rodie who was going into the Salvation Army to see if he could sell it. I paid him a burrito, a tank of gas, and a carton of smokes. He said he stole but well ok I really didn't hear that part.
I always loved how they would play stuff live so much faster than on the album.
Exactly. Why aren't live concerts like that anymore?
compared to how they've done this song other times, this is pleasantly normal speed.
Yes!! needs more energy for those live performances. Sad this idea fell off the planet and putting in less effort live is the way now..
@@louisborselio8608 yeah, was always funny to me they just got faster and faster the older they got when most people start to slow down and extend the songs live
I love punk. It's like drinking coffee, but leaving out the milk and sugar. And water. Just give me the raw coffee grounds. Essence of music.
Ive never heard a better explanation of punk than that!
I’m playing this song 24 hours before New Years because “2020 24 hours to go” 🤷🏻♂️
What a shit year ...forget it amnesia

Sex Pistols have that distinction, 1972. Ramones started two years later.
cosmictrigger9 Los Saicos, 1964.
what they are saying is if was not for the ramones there would be no greenday cutting off they rest of todays punk pop punk and even some pop artist
Dan B. That is incorrect. Sex Pistols started in 1975. The Ramones started in 74. They are the originators of punk rock.
Dan B. Punk didn't even exist in 1972 lol

Punk music is better heard live. not saying it sucks in the recording, you just get the feel, it's more dramatic when you can see the band.
