Why Darkblade is Awesome in Fabula Ultima

One thing people don’t realize is that despite having “blade” in the class name and having Shadow Strike incentivizing weapon use, the class actually is also a VERY good pure non-melee caster, and ironicly enough pairs the best with Spiritist of all the casters.
Thing is, the Spiritist gets a talent called Healing Power. Healing Power increases your healing based on the number of Bonds you have, and of note is it doesn’t just count positive bonds. So this means all the Bonds of Hatred the Darkblade can acrew with Heart of Darkness actually count towards Healing Power, making a Darkblade Spiritist one of the strongest HEALER builds in the game. The Pure Mage healer Darkblade actually dosen’t take shadow strike at all (blasphemous I know) and instead goes with Agony (5), Dark Blood, Heart of Darkness, Painful Lessons (3) for your 10 Darkblade levels. Of SUPER COOL note is that Spiritist has even more synergy with Darkblade via Vismagus, which lets them cast off their HP and thus go into Crisis to activate Heart of Darkness and start regening MP with Agony.
I’d probably make the third starting class of the Darkblade Healer Entropist, and then go into Necromancer and then probably either Elementalist, Orator, or ESPer, depending on your wanted flavor. A starter level 5 build for this pure caster Darkblade healer/no-shadow strike Darkblade would probably look like:
DEX d6 INS d8 MIG d8 WLP d10
Darkblade (1): Heart of Darkness
Entropist (1): Entropic Magic (Drain Vigor)
Spiritist (3): Healing Power (1), Spiritual Magic (Heal), Vismagus
Equipment: Staff, Runic Plate
And if using thjs build, DEFINITELY use the core rules errata/revamp playtest version of Healing Power that increases the bonus healing to 3 + (SL x the number of bonds you have)

Heartbreaker is a good openning move for this class when fight boss. It can let you use heart of darkness right after the first hit.

Dark blade is such a flexible class. I think if you’re looking to be a damage dealer or have a build that triggers off being in crisis then dark blade is worth considering
