I would love to see more photobook videos in the channel Willem! Great job!

For decades, the German fine art photography scene was obsessed with the Bechers. They also taught, and being a student of Becher was a crucial factor in becoming a successful artist in the photography genre, at least in Germany. In my opinion, they were too influential.
Love that you mentioned Bernd and Hila Becher! I'm currently living in Düsseldorf, where they lived and worked as well, and you can really see the influence they had on the local photography scene. Photography as an art form is really put into the foreground in museums and art galleries here!
I'm pretty sure I've watched every one of your videos and it's been a minute since I you introducting this many photo books in one video. These kinds of books really do help me see things when I'm walking around, something you do so well, but that I feel I could develop a lot more of an eye for.
I was able to attend the opening of Emma's book here in Lisbon earlier this year, including some more insights from her in first person. Really lovely project!
Thank you for sharing these phenomenal photo books! I've never seen the "Auto Photo" book before but I see some gems in there including the wonderful Langdon Clay. "Preston Bus Station" is a masterpiece but I've never come across a copy. Have you seen Stephen McCoy's "Housing Estates 1979-1985"?
Jamie Hawkesworth is a legend! One of my faves - can’t get my hands on this book as it’s sold out! Also, I was inspired by your self assignments that I had begun a few over 6 months (and getting off social media to do this because my feed is so saturated) and man. Glad I did. I could focus on what I wanted to shoot and could see my self assignments take shape. Ongoing of course. So thank you for your videos and really enjoying your direction of your videos too. 🎉
I didn't know that there's public toilet in Japan! I haven't seen one when I'm visiting once in a year! But often visit. 😅 this is so inspiring photo books.😍
I love the video idea and the concept of highlighting another physical way to show photography, but it might hurt wanting all these books and not being able to buy them all! ;(((
recently a have really been into photography of old roads with tungsten lighting, that beautiful deep orange color lighting the imperfection in the road, the shadows, the dirt, the rackety old truck going trough the road. It's a personal project, but I hope when the photos come out give the feeling i felt.
Love these videos of you Willem! I recently got a similar typology-style photobook about a table tennis table by Hayahisa Tomiyasu. Maybe someone wants to check it out. Definitely inspires me to work on projects myself.
Yes, I would love to see more of these types of videos. You really sold me on Permissions, so I checked it out at the link you provided, but it's already sold out!
Awesome video as always dude! I really enjoy these types of videos talking about different projects. It's very helpful for me as I work on a big project of my own!
There is a unicorn of photobooks, but if you can get it.... hold on to it.... Stan Engelbrecht's "The Caution Horses" about the wild horses in the Namib desert in Namibia. I think it was released in limited runs in 1999-2001. It's actually as valuable as some of the prints from the book, but well worth it.
Permissions is so, so beautiful. Thanks for putting me onto it. Hardy's work reminds me of the book "Ich denke auch Familienbilder" ("I Think Family Pictures Too" in English) by the German photographer Linn Schroeder. I recommend you check it out! Like Permissions, it's book by a mother about her family, and it's just as breathtaking. The photographs are beautiful, but the editing and combination of b&w with color is also really daring and interesting. I feel like the family-themed book is kind of an oversaturated space in the photo book world, so it's always so refreshing to find books on this topic that stand out from the rest.
♥️ Willem, THANKS for sharing these books with us! I love photo books! They are great way to ENJOY photography (not “consume” 0:250:52 😉) I collect them and I’ve got a few dozens of photo books. Affordable way to buy them is to shop at the thrift stores and charity shops. Please make more “book videos” in the future - it’s really great way to discover new photographers!
@@WillemVerb I figured - cheers! Enjoyed this vid a lot and was disappointed to learn that Permissions seems to be sold out / out of print. Would love a copy of that.

Must have been rough not being one of their students, trying to rise up the ranks feeling alienated from other successful photographers

That book opens the same direction that a toilet does. Genius ❤
Permissions looks like something I’m going to connect with really closely, thank you for sharing!
I haven't received my copy of Playfullness yet, so seeing my name on the opening page here is really exciting! Can't wait to see the rest of the book!

I've actually been looking for more inspiration and finding projects for myself recently, so glad you posted this!

Emma Handy was good discovery, thank you.
Emma Hardy's book is sold out everywhere :(
Yes please! I wouldn't mind more photobook-talk

Some of the Emma Hardy pictures remind me of Eggleston.
Anyone has a recommendation for a company to use for my first photography book?
Great video. Books are massively inspirational to me.

Didn't I just watch this yesterday?
I mean, it was a good video, so I don't mind watching it again, just having some deja vu!
Video problems and it just took a sec to re-export and re upload :)

I wouldn’t be surprised if they made another edition!
