This is one of my favorite tunes to play! Every time I pick up my Low-D whistle, this seems to be the first thing that comes out. Thanks again for another beautiful rendition + tutorial.
I just got a tin whistle been learning from these videos I've been trying to learn Fi's theme from Zelda skyward sword, its a really nice piece, would love to see you do that. Keep up the good work!
This tune has me hooked! I’m going to skip over the beginner whistles that may give me fits and get a good intermediate one. This way I can eliminate that the problem is surely me.
Thanks for sharing this! It's SO soulful and peaceful. Nice to hear your Lir A! I just received mine from Ireland... via your promotion of their instruments. They even gave me a discount for mentioning you and your videos - thanks! Looking foward to more tunes on that sweet A!
Amazing! Thank you Stefanie! Proposal: i am allways order your tunes in Playlists using the key of the Whistle. Think would be helpfull for peoples who have not only a D 😀
Totally Awesome! You and KayThePianist definitely did justice to Enya's song. Beautiful! Both your versions (Low D & Mezzo A) are great, but I just love this newer version. P.S. Adding an A whistle to the to buy list.
Well I think, you are a perfect whistle - lady (it is fun, sorry). But I like what you do, well, I' m a bad whistle player, I am in the beginning but it is getting better. Really, great videos, wonderful. I am sending only a positive spirit. Greetings from Germany/Black Forest🙋♂🎼
See i was thinking of picking up a tin whistle but it felt like the same problem i had with my ocarina. Just too... High. Then I came across this. And it's much better.
Hi, I'm from Brazil, I'm always watching your videos and you've helped me become a good flutist, could you share the background music you use as a basis for playing please?
Thank you, that's so lovely to hear ❤️ You can find karaoke tracks here on RUclips. They're very useful for playing along to. I use a mixture of karaoke tracks, accompaniment from musicians I've worked with, and backing music I make myself. The backing tracks I make, and the accompaniment by other musicians are available on my Patreon for $5 monthly supporters ❤️
Overall, good. Make sure you keep the sustain on the synthesizer notes, otherwise it can sound a bit cut-off in certain spots! A really beautiful sounding instrument.
Thank you so much for the lovely songs you bring us. I just received my A Lir whistle and it has a raspy sound compared to the low D. Perhaps I need to warm it up. The metal parts of mouthpiece feels kind of sharp on my lips. It that normal? The low D mouthpiece is wider so the metal pieces don't touth my lips so much and it is very comfortable. Since I am new to the tin whistle I am wondering if this is how the A is supposed to be, or did I get a defective mouthpiece? I wanted a flute that would be easier on my hands to play.
Audio/video recorded separately for this one, they don't always match up perfectly then 😂 I usually just record the whole thing in one go because I never play the same thing twice 🤣
What sheet notes books you recommend? Hit me some titles with popular pop songs, game and movie themes. I have Clarke C tinwhistle and playing using piano sheet notes but I am curious if whistles notes differs from them. Sorry for my English.
I love your videos so much. I'm a flute player and I would like to learn to play irish whistle. But I'm struggling with finding the right one for me. Is this A whistle? Because on the website they say it's high A, so I'm a bit confused. :D
I've been looking for tabs for a song for a long time. It's for a native American flute. The song is called "walking with the elders" I can't remember the writer.
I want to play this on my regular D whistle but I can’t find any backing tracks, is there a way to access the one you are playing with? I couldn’t find the backing track without the whistle on his website. Beautiful job by the way, your tutorial is helping me a lot.
Backing tracks are available on my Patreon page for $5+ monthly supporters, though I'll have to check to see if this one's available. (I'm not at my computer right now but I'll check for you tomorrow 😊)
Wow! Thanks for the video! Great tutorial! I was looking for Enya on whistle score. Do you know what instrument is played in the minute 2 : 25 of her song, Exile? I think it's a low whistle, but I'm not sure. Thanks in advance!
I bought a low d Tony Winston 2 years ago. I am pretty sure I am of Irish decent; my last name is Atkins. I live in the middle of the United States, Oklahoma. You gave me the best words of encouragement, practice, practice, practice. I am in only 2 days in and still learning how to cover the holes. I saw on one of your videos, you had a note checker. What was that? BTW this year I am learning Irish, as I hope to visit Ireland someday. Please keep your videos up. Thank you, CLIFF.
Hi Cliff, I have a 'tuner' app on my phone. I also have an electronic tuner too. It'll show you which notes you're playing as you play them, and if they're in tune or not 😊
@@CutiepieTinWhistle Excuse me. But could you tell me if the same Tin Whistle that you're using at the beginning of the video produces the same low tunes?
So lovely tune, and you play it si gently! Please, help me, do you use the same whistle in the cover and tutorial parts of the vidio? I'm asking, because the sounds are quate different, In cover part is seems softer...
Hello my friend and thanks you for your youtube channel. Is it possible to have an advice? I want to buy my first tin whistle (ive choose a Tony dixon) and i want to know if i must buy a D or a C. I dont want to play irish music only but blues music, and i want to have a large choice to play with guitars, worship, etc... I want to learn chromatic scales too. A D or a C? Thanks you so much God bless you Jimmy
Hi Jimmy. If you plan to follow tutorials and use tabs, I'd recommend a D whistle, as most tutorials will be on a D whistle. Tin whistles aren't chromatic instruments, they are diatonic, so don't play the full range of sharps and flats without having to half hole. It's possible, but very difficult. I'd recommend playing recorder if you want to play a wider range of notes.
@@CutiepieTinWhistle thanks for your answer. I want to play blues music and play improvisations with friends on guitar thats why i ask the question about the C whistle. If there is two octaves can i play what i want? Or the D is good?
This song is originally in F# Minor. Am I correct in assuming that you transposed the song to D Major to make it easier to play? Because you'd need some serious half-holing skills to play the song in Minor to get the correct original notes, I believe.
A whistles can be called alto, mezzo or low as most whistle makers generally only make one A whistle, a mid range whistle. High A would be too small to play, and a bass A would be too large 🙂 so as long as it says 'A' you should be fine 👍
Hi CutiePie, I am sorry to bother you again. I have a very small tin whistle which I bought in Dingle and it cost 7€. Listening to you play I am getting very interested in playing but I would like to buy a whistle which is bigger with a more saxophone sound, if possible, and not too expensive. Could you please advise. Thank you so much. Greg.
Hi Greg, you won't really find a tin whistle that sounds like a saxophone as such... BUT... Howard low whistles have a number of mouthpieces you can choose from (one is labeled 'reed' and has a slightly more reed instrument sound) they're around £130 though. Alternatively, I think Erik the Flute Maker sells a pocket sax (also expensive but you can buy cheap versions on eBay or Amazon) but they have saxophone fingering, not tin whistle fingering. If you'd like to try a low whistle that's affordable, I recommend James Dominic whistles (won't sound like a sax but won't break the bank) jamesdominicmusic.com/?aff=6
@@CutiepieTinWhistle Thank you!!! I thought I was losing my mind at first! I followed the link provided for the whistle used and it was a general page but I'll definitely look into their A whistles - this one has such a beautiful mellow range and tone!
