When "Titanic" ruled the theaters for months back in 1997 it was such a magic time for America....the whole country was enthralled with this movie and went to see it over and over...WELL DESERVED Oscar!!
Saw John and the two James at the premiere of Titanic Live in London in April 2015. Huge shock just 8 weeks later. Rest in peace Mr Horner, that film wouldn't have been half what it was without your music.
They already broke up that time, look at the reaction when announced the winner, Linda even didn't want to hug James, and turn her face to other people.
+Cole Boerst Most of them more than likely "claim" that is sucks, and secretly like it. But remember, It's evidently "cool" to hate anything that is popular, especially when it becomes a phenomenon.
Eric Cartman I see your intentions but the ironic thing is that those 2 scenes were the most innovative and spoken about as the drawing scene changed the MPAA and the fact that the majority of Titanic was Practical Effects rather than CGI. Plus Best Picture isn't given for the story (screenwriter) or style (director) but the business aspect of how the film got produced (producer). So it actually did deserve it in those terms.
It will definitely not defeat a lot of movies. Even the non-winning movies like The Dark Knight. Titanic was very well-directed and produced, but the storyline isn't it, really. The 2-day process of falling in love is really unrealistic (yea, it's a movie, but still no depth to that) and the fact that they simply made it like it was Jack and Rose's fault why the ship sank is not it.
Yes, I almost cry. I didn't watch this nominees because that time I was a child and I didn't care so much about Oscars. However, seeing this video and how Mr. James Cameron asks a little of silence for those people who died on the Titanic was so touching and how people really kept silence and respect for all those victims of that fatal night.
Yeah, after masturbating to the 2 hour reenactment of their gruesome deaths as detailed action event, he's suddenly sooo sad for them. Hypocrisy at its best.
The fact that he took time to silence everyone to remember the 1,500 people who died on Titanic. He is truly the most sweetest person ever to put thought into doing something like that just for a movie. What a champ
Even though it is customary today for the cast to come up when a film wins Best Picture at the Oscars; this custom did not start until The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King won Best Picture. The casts of Million Dollar Baby, Crash, The Departed, No Country For Old Men, do not go up with the producers when the Best Picture Oscar is accepted. This tradition is picked up again in 2009 with the win of Slumdog Millionaire.

The Academy got it right, some hundreds of thousands of critics got it wrong. Most of them give it too low of a rating, for example imbd, 7.7/10, a score lower than _a whole lot_ of movies. I so agree with you, in everything. It is ridiculous how the Oscar lost the value it had. Back there, the minimum required to be nominated was to have an "almost perfect act". But today, having a 'good' act is enough to WIN the award.
HillOfSorrow I'm glad im not the only person who noticed this! Yes that's so true. I mean there are still some deserved wins but others aren't even that good you know.. they're just doing their job as an actor but not doing a really exceptional job and they get the credit. Idk. I cry inside for Leonardo. I mean he has literally proven to everyone again and again and again that he DESERVES the title but he just never gets it. Its probably a slap in his face when he sees a new comer in the industry, gets a big shot in a really good film, gets the attention and the fuzz and then they win. It's just unfair for him. The poor guy.
How can people say that Titanic didn't deserve the Oscar this movie has to be one of the best directed films of all time just everything about this movie is incredible the cast the soundtrack everything is just so beautifully done and it deserves all the hype it gets
@@djmotise So? What Titanic was able to achieve, contrary to L.A. Confidential, was to capture the hearts & minds of millions of people across the world. Isn't that what Hollywood is supposed to do? Inspiring millions of young children and adults to follow their hearts. To create magic and James Cameron absolutely nailed that.
@@PDC1987 Didn't you read my part about being inspiring? Trying to achieve the greater good etc? You use a bad example. Also, because even after a year, Titanic was still running in cinema's as the movie was that good and able to capture the hearts and souls of many.
I love the way James Cameron ended his speech by having everyone take a few seconds of silence to remember the people that died on the Titanic. That was a very moving moment.
Well the budget came from the studios, to finance the project. James actually had to forego a salary during the filming, just to ensure it would get completed. He got well paid for his efforts in the end, tho, don't worry.
Titanic has gone down in history as one of the most beautiful and tear jerking movies of all time. Truly a masterpiece and definitely an iconic movie even over 20 years later
I love other nominees (especially L.A. Confidential, and Good Will Hunting) but Titanic is EPIC! The love story of 'Rose' & 'Jack' can stand the test of time. Please don't hate Titanic as it has proved one of the most successful movies of all time is NOT a superhero movie or a sequel or a remake or a reboot or a spin-off. #Titanic will be remembered and treasured by every generation. Hands down. And thank you, Mr. Cameron; also to 'Kate' & 'Leo'.
I love the fact that he made a moment of silence during his speech for titanic, it's a subtle way to say that despite the recognition for his creativity, the inspiration for that is real and should have given a moment of respect too🙌🏽
@Philosophy Wit Totally agree! It perfectly shows what a humble guy and a genius he is. Not just pulling the biggest movie stunt of the 90's, in reference to Titanic's enormous budget of $200 Million, but also being the first director to get past the $1 Billion at the Box Office and almost even reaching $2 Billion at the time in 1998. Today it has surpassed that figure. Nevertheless, the movie is still legendary for its time and continues to be so to this day.
@@dvchel I wouldn't say James is a humble guy, he's got a huge ego. He literally put his name in the title for Avatar and he was pissed when his ex-wife beat him out(and rightfully so I might add) for best director at the academy awards.
***** That doesn't mean anything, Crash, Chicago, The Hurt Locker, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love also win Best Picture and they didn't deserve it or there was at least one film that was so much better
RZ K Titanic won best picture, best director, best cinematography, best art direction, best costume design, best sound, best film editing, Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing, Best Effects, Visual Effects, Best Music Original Song, Best Music Original Dramatic Score. and it became the highest grossing film of all time, and first film to reach 1 billion dollars. those films you listed are supposed to be good, thats why they got that but titanic is supposed to be shit ?
People may say that L.A. or Good Will should've won but Titanic has this magic that will truly touch the hearts of the viewers and as for someone who loves going to the movies, that is enough for the production to deserve the Best Picture
Then become more Enthusiastic and watch movies...which aren't stupid ...Titanic had too many fictional characters...apart from few like Molly brown and JJ Astor IV but cmon you Let this super cheesy Movie win over a much greater Master peice like the LA Confidential...it's truly said all time can filter mediocrity!
i dont really like L.A but love good will hunting, but titanic is masterpiece of movie making and was a game changing, brilliant choice by AMPAS to not miss this beautiful whole package entertainment while others are only good with writing.
That was a really nice thing for Jim to do to remind everyone about the true tragedy of titanic and its message and in respect to the lives lost have a moments silence with everyone.
***** Yes you are right, and it is disturbing as the movie recreated a moment in time and that real people went through the horror of that huge ship sinking. It would have been very disappointing if he accepted the oscar and thanked production and that was it. The Titanic is people's grave so i'm glad he took it seriously and showed respect.
***** No, I don't agree with that. The movie was EXTREMELY well made so that the horror elements were shown as well. Of course Rose and Jack are who we follow, but there are entire scenes that focus on the rest of the passengers, and the panic.
***** I've seen plenty of interviews, and the actors understand the true story. And just because it's not the topic of conversation in the interview, does not mean that they are dissing it.
greenkitty82 Titanic is now sadly a gravesite. Items such as shoes and other possessions were found on the ocean floor. Robert Ballard (who found Titanic in 1985) despises how people go down to visit the ship, having called it disrespectful. There have been many items retrieved from Titanic and sold at auctions. I myself find it horrifyingly disrespectful to the people who died aboard the ship. Hell has a special place for gravediggers.
I loved Titanic. It felt like a throwback to Hollywood's old time blockbusters. It was lovely. I could see someone like elizabeth Taylor playing Rose in a 50s version
5:24 'A Night To Remember' is the name of the movie that inspired a lot of scenes, characters, and dialogues on 'Titanic'. James subtly credited the filmmakers of the movie that was released 39 years earlier. ❤️
That was a beautiful gesture to give tribute to the people who lost their lives. Even after winning the Oscar to empathise with those people was incredible..Mr James Cameron 🙌
+TheHehe1223 Not sure, but it kinda looked intentional, LOL.. after all, James Cameron had already won 2 awards that night, before the one at 1:10 (Best Picture). I may be wrong, but it looked to me like he did it to be funny....and it worked. :-)
My favorite movie of all time. Makes me so proud it swept the Academy Awards away and tied with most Oscars any movie has ever won. A spectacular film that went down in history.
The film was made for the crowd of the late 90's. and of course there are tons of mistakes BUT James was not here to make a historical Titanic film; HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE BIGGEST FILM OF OUR TIME AND MAKE MONEY. The man is a genius for that!
forest parker I'm not talking about the special effects. Yes they are amazing! Listen, people make lists about the things that are wrong with Titanic like: the language; people did not talk like that in 1912. I'm simply saying that the film is not meant to be historical and it's true purpose was to make money. James is smart for making the film the way it is. People think that they were "mistakes" but he knew exactly what he was doing.
it was a tribute to those 1500 people.....and it was beautifully made movie... ya wat u say is true.....in someway it does connect to the event in 1912....cant be exact biopic....
+Joel Figueroa besides Leo's performance the rest of the acting from the cast was so so too me nothing to scream home about. I truly do believe the special effects are what really made this movie. It amazes me how whenever I watch it those special effects from well over 18 years ago still hold up extremely well to this day
I don't care about damn haters, I just wanna say this romantic saga will beat the flow of time and will remain immortal forever. Every time I watch it I cannot shed my tear.
I just rewatched the film for the who knows how many times and it hits me hard every single time. What was portrayed through those camera lenses is the one of the most amazing feats ever accomplished in the film industry. One of if not the greatest movies of all time.
It really brought home the tragedy of the event to a new generation, some of whom are now shipbuilders, marine architects, or oceanographers thanks to the film (Much like how Jurassic Park caused an upswing in paleontology)
No merit my ass. Titanic is such a wonderful film it's a miracle it got made. We have groundbreaking special effects that are still groundbreaking to this day, it's flawlessly crafted, sharply written, has fantastic acting from its stellar cast, the characters are well developed, its music is mesmerizing and finally, the film has emotional power strong enough to bring the burliest of men to tears. Its a very sweet love story and an excellent depiction of the sinking. A perfect 10/10.

DoubleCoolCTdawgTownsend1992 Townsend your profile pic actually fits this video considering the year it came out. I wish it was nominated for Best Picture.
This film was still selling out 7-8 months after its release. It was in theatres for over a year, and not relegated to the cinemas crappy small theatres, six months into its run it was still playing in the big theatres with the best sound. It was an absolute phenomenon. This was one of those films that will stay in the zeitgeist forever. I had never seen a film perform as well as it did nor since it.
Amazing to see that no so long ago the Oscars were a celebration of art and not a stage for political speeches like it is nowadays. Nobody gives acceptance speeches so touching and respectful like this anymore. James Cameron must be one of the last remaining heroes in film history. All my respects to him. Bravo Maestro!

concuerdo contigo nena. es verdad lo que dices, si sale hoy por hoy igual gana todo incluso en actores!
Joan Hermoso I think Jenifer Lawrence is very good at acting. She can portray very dramatic emotions.
Brian Merritt Yes, that's true but I think nothing remarkable. Just doing her job I guess. But that's just my opinion tho.
R.I.P Jon Landau, James Horner, and Bill Paxton.
James Cameron wouldn't have got to where he is today without these guys. RIP to all of them.
Who is here after heard about John Landeau’s passing? 😢
How can people say that Titanic didn't deserve the Oscar this movie has to be one of the best directed films of all time just everything about this movie is incredible the cast the soundtrack everything is just so beautifully done and it deserves all the hype it gets
agreed, masterpiece from all aspects
@@djmotise So? What Titanic was able to achieve, contrary to L.A. Confidential, was to capture the hearts & minds of millions of people across the world. Isn't that what Hollywood is supposed to do? Inspiring millions of young children and adults to follow their hearts. To create magic and James Cameron absolutely nailed that.
@@djmotise it's really funny when people act like there is only one version of Netflix and say something like you did
dvchel Transformers made more money than Schindler’s List, doesn’t mean it’s even in the same league in terms of cinematic quality.
@@PDC1987 Didn't you read my part about being inspiring? Trying to achieve the greater good etc? You use a bad example. Also, because even after a year, Titanic was still running in cinema's as the movie was that good and able to capture the hearts and souls of many.
James Cameron has such balls of steel/natural director he even directed everyone to have a moment of silence
*and the Oscar goes too.. Titanic*
James Cameron: ✊😎✊ “yes” “yes!”
@Wonderous lyrics ? Wdym
Titanic got less clapping
Lol too much jealousy
Does anyone feel like '98 was just 10 years ago? Because i do!!!
Yesterday...
I was born after the 98 😅
I was born in 1998
Titanic is STILL the greatest love story ever told..... One of the best films ever made.
It’s 2021 and I still think that!
I love the way James Cameron ended his speech by having everyone take a few seconds of silence to remember the people that died on the Titanic. That was a very moving moment.
as one reviewer put it: you don’t just watch Titanic, you experience it.
LMAO at all the people that are STILL complaining about this. "Titanic" won Best Picture. Get over it!
*****
how about you go fuck yourself
cance7984 ☝️
kyliesbtwLC YOU go fuck yourself!
not trying to degrading the rest of the nominees but it seemed that the rest of them were not even close to beat the film Titanic that year..
Titanic is still the best movie ever made to this day. Nothing will ever beat it. even any of the avenger movies
RIP Jon Landau (July 23, 1960 - July 5, 2024), aged 63
You will be remembered as a legend
Titanic was the most important of the world, The film very important.

pretty sure james cameron kissed two different women on the lips
I saw that ..n was like. Wat d
I thought the same! Who's the second lady?
😂😂 he' real jack...u can say..sparrow also
Sounds right
I am from Bangladesh? All of you?
James spent $200M for the film itself in 90s. This shows passion of jim towards filmmaking!
$200M was the entire budget i think, not just the ship
@@lscn12 yep u are right
And it made 2bn...I'm pretty sure the studio was very happy
Well the budget came from the studios, to finance the project. James actually had to forego a salary during the filming, just to ensure it would get completed. He got well paid for his efforts in the end, tho, don't worry.
Titanic has gone down in history as one of the most beautiful and tear jerking movies of all time. Truly a masterpiece and definitely an iconic movie even over 20 years later
A well deserved oscar
Benish Ben that's the deserving part
Yeah Good Will Hunting
The amount of times Kate Winslet has been robbed breaks my heart.
Titanic is not a movie its an emotion ❤❤❤
the best movie in the world.......................
In your world maybe
RZ K say that to the people who gave the film 11 academy awards including "best picture".
***** I dont know what to say ? what the fuck have I been writing in the last comment then you blind fuck ?
People may say that L.A. or Good Will should've won but Titanic has this magic that will truly touch the hearts of the viewers and as for someone who loves going to the movies, that is enough for the production to deserve the Best Picture
nah,the only reason it won it was because the academy is clearly biased with crap oscar bait movies.
Rafael Rios Oscar bait? lol, before Titanic came out, it was expected to be a failure.
i dont really like L.A but love good will hunting, but titanic is masterpiece of movie making and was a game changing, brilliant choice by AMPAS to not miss this beautiful whole package entertainment while others are only good with writing.
Rafael Rios Thank you
The most powerful movie and by far the most epic. It also gave us DiCaprio and Winslet, two of the greatest actors of our lifetime.
DiCaprio was already making his mark before Titanic but this movie definitely pushed him to superstar popularity.
Alicia Coburg you have wonderful smile
My God that must have been the most beautiful Rose.
5:24 'A Night To Remember' is the name of the movie that inspired a lot of scenes, characters, and dialogues on 'Titanic'. James subtly credited the filmmakers of the movie that was released 39 years earlier. ❤️
A Night to Remember was a dramatic retelling of the tragedy, but without the wraparound love story that James Cameron invented.
That was a beautiful gesture to give tribute to the people who lost their lives. Even after winning the Oscar to empathise with those people was incredible..Mr James Cameron 🙌
Connery had to take a second look 1:10
This was funny xD
+TheHehe1223 Not sure, but it kinda looked intentional, LOL.. after all, James Cameron had already won 2 awards that night, before the one at 1:10 (Best Picture). I may be wrong, but it looked to me like he did it to be funny....and it worked. :-)
+Starlene JIviden Agreed
Like Faye Dunaway should have done
I'd say he saw the word Titanic, double checked and thought "another Oscar, goddamn"
Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio are finally Oscar winners for "The Reader" and "The Revenant."
Why no thank you to Kate and Leo?
Because he thanked them when he received Oscar for Best Directing.
My favorite movie of all time. Makes me so proud it swept the Academy Awards away and tied with most Oscars any movie has ever won. A spectacular film that went down in history.
Andrea Styles ew
1:30 Thank you James Horner for creating such beautiful music, God bless you❤️
"you can be blase about some things rose but not about titanic"
BEST MOVIE EVER MADE
That is the best movie (Titanic 1997) for all time
The film was made for the crowd of the late 90's. and of course there are tons of mistakes BUT James was not here to make a historical Titanic film; HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE BIGGEST FILM OF OUR TIME AND MAKE MONEY. The man is a genius for that!
+Joel Figueroa lot of mistakes wtf!!!! the vfx, animation work was the best at that time, never seen before & u r saying tons of mistakes.....
forest parker I'm not talking about the special effects.
It amazes me how whenever I watch it those special effects from well over 18 years ago still hold up extremely well to this day
I agree about making money. For the biggest film, that depends on what you mean by "big".
I don't care about damn haters, I just wanna say this romantic saga will beat the flow of time and will remain immortal forever. Every time I watch it I cannot shed my tear.
Who's hating?
I just rewatched the film for the who knows how many times and it hits me hard every single time. What was portrayed through those camera lenses is the one of the most amazing feats ever accomplished in the film industry. One of if not the greatest movies of all time.
It really brought home the tragedy of the event to a new generation, some of whom are now shipbuilders, marine architects, or oceanographers thanks to the film (Much like how Jurassic Park caused an upswing in paleontology)
Titanic was the greatest movie achievement since Gone with the Wind. It had everything.
James Cameron seems so pompous. He has been married like 5 times.
Cameron is a genius. Period
I’m still mad Titanic didn’t sweep every category, it should have. Kate and Leo deserved oscars for their performances.
@Dean Bennington yeah I do, so you know anything anything about Hollywood politics and the unspoken rules of the academy and how they choose winners?
Haha good joke
Ehh, excessive. They performed more in the service of the film than for their glory. They still had bright futures ahead of them.
Yes, they deserved best actors Oscars
No merit my ass. Titanic is such a wonderful film it's a miracle it got made. We have groundbreaking special effects that are still groundbreaking to this day, it's flawlessly crafted, sharply written, has fantastic acting from its stellar cast, the characters are well developed, its music is mesmerizing and finally, the film has emotional power strong enough to bring the burliest of men to tears. Its a very sweet love story and an excellent depiction of the sinking. A perfect 10/10.
*TITANIC* will always be the greatest film ever! Before it was made, there was nothing like it in history! Every aspect of the film was perfect and unforgettable in every way. It’s not just a movie - it’s a piece of art and history! 🏆♥️
Titanic,Titanic,Titanic only Hollywood movie which I loved the most❤️....Still Loving....Forever TITANIC 😘😍. ROSE😘&JACK😍 R EMOTION.....Big fan from INDIA🇮🇳
No one has been able to surpass the movie Titanic, even the latest films of James Cameron. Truly Titanic is the Best Film so far. The story, the cast, the cinematography, the music, the movie sets when you combined them, it's an ART.
Titanic is the most Phenomenal, sensational, unique and brilliant movie ever made in history!
RIP Jon. Titanic and then Avatar is quite the legacy. Jim wouldn't have got there without you.
Kate Winslet was probably thinking "Hurry up and get on the stage, I want to go home now."
Hear and feel the cheer of the people, when he called out Titanic. People were so genuinely happy!❤️
RIP Jon Landau (23 July, 1960 - 6 July, 2024)
I LOVE TITANIC :)
My all time favorite movie. I don't consider it the greatest film of all time, but it is my favorite.
supermariofan03 mine too
DoubleCoolCTdawgTownsend1992 Townsend your profile pic actually fits this video considering the year it came out. I wish it was nominated for Best Picture.
I feel the same way!
if it's your all time favorite, YOU should consider it the Best ever, wtf?
HAL 9000 There's a difference between my personal favorite and the greatest film ever made.
I remember vividly jumping up and screaming the very moment Sean Connery said Titanic was the winner. A classic masterpiece of a movie!
I miss Sean Connery and his iconic voice!!
Me too
Amazing to see that no so long ago the Oscars were a celebration of art and not a stage for political speeches like it is nowadays. Nobody gives acceptance speeches so touching and respectful like this anymore. James Cameron must be one of the last remaining heroes in film history. All my respects to him. Bravo Maestro!
True story! It's our own fault. Apathy sarcasm and Ricky Gervais humour is what the world responds to now. I think it just makes cynical pessimists.
Throwing political/social issues into speeches is why I no longer watch ANY awards show anymore..I used to enjoy watching the Grammys, Emmys, and Oscars...now I don't care...
LMAO! You "Titanic" naysayers are an absolute riot! Keep on making a spectacle of yourselves as I sit here and eat my bowl of delicious popcorn. Thank you for the dazzling entertainment! It was splendid! :-D
And it deserved every bit of it. Titanic is a timeless masterpiece in every element.
Titanic totally deserved its praise fair and square. Even by nowadays' standards, the movie still makes me melt, weep, laugh and awe. Rose and Jack's romance is a timeless masterpiece.
Probably one of the greatest years for the Best Picture category in history!!!!!
1:07 And the Oscars goes to... Titanic! 🚢
I see today Titanic... Is the best movie for me and my family
Titanic deserved best picture, and it's one of my favorite movies of all time. So congrats!! 👏👏🏆
