I just installed this shifter with Mtec springs and I'm in love with it .. but with capital .. the shifter will not fit with the reverse lock plate which will make shifting to 1st gear and downshifting to 2nd gear will be difficult to place them especially if you are planning for tracking the car .. it really weird that it is not mentioned in the video or the website and if you watch the video to the end you will notice the reverse lock plate is not installed.
Just put this one on today along with the mtec springs and I can't get this stupid grin off my face. I will admit there's a rattle (I think not putting the boot back on causes it) but its negligible to the amount of joy I feel from shifting from 2nd to 3rd and back again. It is a STOOPID improvement over the stock shifter!! I thought I loved my car before but now I don't ever want to stop driving it!
How does this shifter compare to the STI short throw shifter that Subaru began offering on the 2017/2018 BRZ models? Planning on ordering a BRZ this Spring, and that was one of the options I was planning on getting.
Not sure if your still interested, but I did a little review of the STI short shifter if your still considering it, maybe check it out. Thanks. ruclips.net/video/Lwc-51b3CRo/видео.html
If you have push to start it’s the same exact process but youre just going to disconnect another connection behind the tray, it still comes out the same way though
So much want, my shifter has a little bit of play which bothers me and i like a taller peg style shifter so this dropping the shifter down is another plus. And with the taller shift knob im sure ill welcome the shorter throw. Look forward to another purchase from FT-86 SpeedFactory.
I have a rattle somewhere in there so I’m here looking for a different shifter because I’m going to be taking everything off anyway. I seen that it’s that spacer/washer he removes after the pin that makes the rattle. Have you got your rattle fixed?
There are a couple of things which can cause it. One is actually the plastic cap on the stock gearknob. Around that RPM is when rattles seem to appear. I found part of the reason is the sound pipe, it causes a slight vibration at higher RPM (try plugging it and some rattles vanish).
I bought this short shifter it’s amazing but I ran into a problem that the video didn’t do well with explaining. So in the video @ 5:17 mins when he gets to the 4 screws holding the lockout plate you have to place the lockout plate in the exact same place you had it before because if not you won’t have all of the gears in place. I had my lockout plate a little bit to the right and thought it was fine till I started driving and I only have 3,4,5,6 I didn’t have 1st or 2nd gear 😂 till I fixed it. Over than that it’s great.
Anyone have problems with this shifter rattling at higher rpms? Also can be tough to find second gear at times. Otherwise the shifter seems great so far.
Just got one today, installed and took it for a spin. In 2nd I get heavy rattling at above 4k rpm and in 3rd at above 4500 rpm. It sounds like the lockout is rattling on the lockout plate. So much for having fixed the kartboy rattling problems. And getting in 2nd can be a PITA, found it was odd installing as the lockout only barely clears the 10mm bolt making it hard to get a ratchet on. Is yours stiff? When in neutral I get no free wobble, I'm having to apply heavy pressure to move from left to right between gears.
I have mine in the process of being returned, at this time there doesn't seem to be a fix. Going to try my luck with the Billet. Actually as for 2nd gear, I was able to get more clearance just by aligning the lockout at a different angle. Once I played around with that it was never an issue again. Mine was never stiff, everything else about the shifter besides the rattle was great.
VERY. from neutral if I move it left or right it doesn't return to the center. I /hope/ it just needs to wear in. Yes big trouble getting to 2nd (or 1st) from 3rd. Will have to pull the console apart again and see about the lockout/screws.
You dont need to in order to install this, but those can be install along side the short shifter to make shifts even better. Rear Shifter Bushing - www.ft86speedfactory.com/drivetrain-41/shifter-bushings-99.html Mtec Shifter Springs - www.ft86speedfactory.com/mtec-shift-spring-kit.html
I'll stick with my $79 top speed generic. It's lasted 2 years without issue. Why are all of these name brands so fkn steep?! Knock-offs > paying for names...sometimes.

Same bro 😂😂😂
@@straight2thepoint369 I don’t have an 86 yet but I’ve made 2 documents of parts already
You guys need to open a shop in the UK because it's hard to find some parts here :(

Can you sell window seals so you can do a video on how to replace and adjust them?
What if you have the push start version???

Does anyone else have a rattle in their reverse lockout/boot? It comes on after 4500 RPM. Anyone with a solution? My car is barely broken in.

Does Raceseng’s reverse lockout fit in this short shifter ?
Those valenti tail lights tho! Those look sharp with the clear cover and white bar! nice video btw
I just completed it by watching this video thank you
Nice haircut bro
Great video made my day

What if I don’t transfer the little rubber ring to the new shifter? Any possible damage that can occur without it?
@ft86speedfactory
No rubber boot?
How different is the center console disassembly with push button start?
Scott Short not much different you just disconnect two additional wires but comes out the same way

Haven't driven in anger yet, but the stock knob rattles at all rpm. will need to glue it.

I've never noticed my stock shifter rattling
Does this shifter come with shorter bolts for the reverse lockout plate? If not, what are the specs for the factory bolts?
@ft86speedfactory do u have to replace the rear shifter bushings and the shift springs to install this?
You dont need to in order to install this, but those can be install along side the short shifter to make shifts even better.

Why not Line up the shots for the comparison?
