    Very good tutorial. Thanks for your time preparing it.
    It is worth mentioning that hybrid inverters also has minimum and maximum Vdc range. E.g., 120-450Vdc. It means they will not work with low voltage from small panel array. So if your inverter is min 120Vdc and you connect only 2 panels with 50Voc each, it will not work.

    Very good explanation of how to calculate a simple low energy system. Mine has been running for approximately 4-5 years without any issues. But due to the lack of summer weather here in the UK the system only runs for around 7 months of the year.👍

      Its not entirely true. Thanks to Mppt controllers it’s possible to produce energy even during winter periods even in the UK.

    • @OliverJayYoutube

      Hi yes, correct sir. Minimum is to put a CB between the grid and the inverter. ATS is just an added layer of protection meant to bypass the inverter.

    What will be the size of SPD or how will we calculate the size and plz share the link of complete all 5 videos slides u play

    • @OliverJayYoutube
      @OliverJayYoutube  3 года назад

      Hello Sir,
      For the Surge protection, take a look at the Uc and Up values of your SPD. Uc is the maximum continuous operating voltage, if the SPD senses a voltage above this, it becomes active. Up, on the other hand, is the maximum voltage across the SPD when it is active. Up is selected as such that it is below the overvoltage withstand capability of the loads. A typical DC SPD has a Uc of around 500 VDC and a Up of ~2kV.
      As far as I know, there are 3 types, classified according to the frequency of the surge. Type 1 is installed near the panels for protection against lightning. Type 2 is installed between the source and the load, for added protection. Type 3 is installed near the load to redirect any residual surges - good for loads that are very sensitive to fluctuations. There are SPDs that can cater for both Type 1 and Type 2.

    Hi Oliver.
    Thanks for posting this information.
    My sister lives in Aden where the electricity is intermittent (on 3 hours off 3 hours) and a hybrid system may be the ideal solution.
    1. Difficult to do load analysis because they didn't have ongoing grid supply.
    2. Could do with a system that powers 2 air conditioning units (2600w) and the daily consumption could be around 50kwh.
    3. Would need a system that stores about 5 hours for use with air conditioning over night. Battery size 16kw?
    4. Hybrid inverter 8kw?
    5. 24x Solar panels 330w?
    6. Would like the system run via grid and use the solar as backup
    Any pointers you can give me would be greatly appreciated

    • @OliverJayYoutube
      @OliverJayYoutube  3 года назад +1

      Hello sir, i agree, hybrid should be the ideal setup if the grid us intermittent. i did a quick computation and yours should be ok. I believe you used sun peak hours of around 8-9hrs, correct? I think it's quite sunny in Aden but I dont have any definitive value on the sun peak hours so we'll leave it as you have calculated. Battery should be more than enough, should be at least 3 strings and 4 series of 12V/250Ah batteries.
      Inverter type fridge and AC are quite difficult to estimate since their power consumption varies throughout the day and affected by many factors.

    • @OliverJayYoutube

      Hello sir, aside from the Voc, another important spec we should consider is the watt capacity of the PV panel. It helps to know several options for panels, inverters, and batteries so you can easily mix and match the items depending on your calculation. Easiest would be to seek the help of solar equipment supplier as they can easily recommend specific panels, inverters, or batteries for your project.

      It's because of the performance ratio of the installation site. For example, in Brazil, we have approximately 80% solar efficiency. So, the calculation would be 1/0.8 = 1.25.

      The max discharge current is a battery specification defined by manufacturers to prevent over diacharging the batteries which will damage it.. The max discharge current of 240A is still a long way to go so your still ok.

      Hello bro, I checked your inverter specs. Max PV input is 500V and Max charging current is 80A. With your current panel qty, i think it is not fully optimized. If you connect all 16 PV panels in series, that only gives you 5A 320V 1600W. If you go with 2 strings of 8 panels in series, you get 10A and 160V 1600W. Both setups give you a lot of room to improve.
      To optimize your setup, you may add more PV panels. 3 strings of 8 x 100W panels will give you 15A 160V 2400W. You can also have 4 strings of 8 x 100W for a PV array output of 20A 160V 3200W. Either way will improve your battery charging power.

    Quite interesting and illustrative material. However, let me comment on two matters. Firstly, a 3kW inverter powered by 1,5 kWp PV array does not appear to be a good match. It is said that PV array power should rather be higher than power of an inverter. Secondly, the total nominal voltage of PV array should be adequate to the inverter starting voltage i.e. it should have been considerably higher unless the array works in very sunny good conditions for most of the day.

    Hi sir, why is the there a need for a DC isolator switch in between the solar panel and hybrid inverter when there is already a DC circuit breaker present?

    • @OliverJayYoutube
      @OliverJayYoutube  3 года назад +2

      Hello sir, you can actually do without one. It is just an added protection. It also is for convenience, in case you need to repair something on the inverter side, you can cut the line from the PV panel through the isolator.

    • @AlbertoBesenBorges

      It's because of the performance ratio of the installation site. For example, in Brazil, we have approximately 80% solar efficiency. So, the calculation would be 1/0.8 = 1.25.
