  • Here is how I make my room ready for substitute teachers. Even when I'm not there I still want my students to have a quality day.
Here are the TeacherPayTeacher resources I mentioned in the video:

I used a Sub Tub the first few years I taught. I was teaching 1st grade and then later taught 4th, 5th, & 6th grades. The Sub Tub was a life saver. I put generic sub plans in a binder and kept that with the tub. I haven't made one for Kinder yet but I plan to do so this year so I can have an easier time when I'm gone. I love how you have a plan for when you know you'll be gone and one for the emergencies. I'm definitely going to do that! Thanks for sharing this.

I'm not sure whether your hair is a new colour or whether I just haven't been observant recently, but I LOVE it. I want to change my hair colour and I may take a screen shot of your hair as a guide. I love the warmth of it. It really suits you. Thank you for the ideas for prepping for a sub. I'm sure many teachers come to school sick because it is just too difficult to prepare for a sub, whereas with your ideas it is already set up, taking a lot of stress out of the situation.

Could you make video about student expectations for subs and how you hold students accountable when you are gone? Thank you! My friend and I just graduated with elementary and secondary education and we love your channel!

I have extremely LOW expectations for sub days. Sad but true. For every one totally awesome sub I have had, I have had ten subs who just sat behind the desk and played on their phone all day. As long as I come back and the room isn't destroyed and none of the children were injured I consider it a good sub day.

+Tina Bietler I couldn't agree more! My advice is to never leave the teaching of new content to subs. They are very often not trained teachers and they rarely understand how to effectively teach content. I just give review work or lighter work that kids can do independently.

Did you get the label for the Sub tub anywhere specific? And the note for subs to fill out about their day?!

HEllo ! I live and teach in France, and I'm wondering what is "dido-sheet" (if that's the way it is written !) . I have never heard of that. Can you explain ? Is it an acronym ? What does it mean ? Thank you in advance !

Ditto sheet is what in a America is referred to as a work sheet. It's just copied papers of work.
