Ah, the Doctors Daughter.... aka The Doctors wife.... aka The Doctors Daughter...
Christmas dinner must be so surreal.
Shelley Templar i was about to comment the same thing 😆
For context, in case anyone doesn't know, Georgia Moffett (who plays Jenny) is the daughter of Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor... and she and David Tennant started dating some time after filming this episode, and got married in 2011.
_"We get to see the Doctor's daughter, played by the Doctor's daughter."_ - David Tennant
Edit: 16:05 Ah, well, that'll learn me not to comment before watching the discussion... (nah, let's be frank here, it probably won't).
And they have a daughter.
Two Men and a Canoe two
I remember Georgia Moffett (Davison/MacDonald/Tennant) saying she went to school with Colin Baker's daughter and MAYBE Sylvester McCoy's daughter, so she just grew up thinking EVERYONE'S DAD IS THE DOCTOR
There is a great clip somewhere on RUclips where Peter Davidson is doing a Q&A at a fan event. One of the fans asks the question 'What is the best gift a fan has every given you?', whilst Peter is thinking another fan shouts out 'A Grandchild!'.
Would have been such an "aww" moment if he had said that...
Dammit I wish someone would link it.
Edit: I found it. m.ruclips.net/video/qkQop3yDGGM/видео.html
@@sophiefilo16 he response with "yes that" to the question
I watched a clip of interview with him where he said Georgia told him David Tennant was very nice and he wanted to take her out to dinner and to see Shakespeare because he didn't think she appreciated Shakespeare enough. This happened again. Davison said he thought Tennant must like her, but his daughter said, oh, no, he just thinks I need to appreciate Shakespeare. A few months later, she told him she thought David Tennant liked her.
I love scenes like the one in this episode with Donna, which really give us a brief moment of insight into just how *old* the Doctor really is, and how much of a burden all those memories and experiences have on him constantly, and how well he hides it. Plus it shows how Donna is so much more of a friend to him than an admirer or a romantic interest, which is why I love her so much. "You talk all the time, but you say so little" shows just how well she's starting to understand him.
Yeah tennant showed the characters age much the best of all the actors
@@OlPalJoe I dunno, Matt had some pretty great moments too. The Rings Of Akhaten speech for one.
Counting down the days until Midnight and the Library eps!!
uwu
I completely forgot they haven't met... HER... yet...
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Juliette Reacts Spoilers....
Season 4 has soooo many good episodes.
I know, right? So glad they seem to be into Donna now. She's definitely a favourite companion of mine. PS: Love your Hamilton icon (I'm seeing it later this month!)
csgrambauer ...are you being serious?
You can see that Martha is more shocked than Donna when he's holding the gun, as she never saw him kill someone whilst Donna saw him kill the Racnoss.
Okay we need to do the death scene again. Now David just hold her there while we do about 50 takes or so. Yeah we'll just reset. Just keep staring into her eyes while we do. No, asking her to dinner isn't in the script what are you doing?
The moment I liked from this episode was just the simple way they made Donna's job as a temp be the reason why she notices something that most people would miss.
"I wouldn't be surprised if we saw her again"
And they never saw her again...
According to Moffat she crashed into an asteroid and died.
@@cait812 Well, that's a lie, as she's got her own Big Finish audio adventures. Which renders the statement invalid as Moffat claims it happens right after the end of the episode.
@@scotthadden9816 Not really, he said in an interview a few years back that that was what happened. Then he made those. Not everyone watches/listens to the audio books and I didn't know about them. I didn't lie, I just didn't know he'd changed it and made audio books as I don't follow them.
when I originally watched this I was hoping for another spin off series cause she is hot. lol
@@cait812 that sounds too silly to be canon. lol
I think this episode really shows how close the Doctor and Donna's relationship has become, and how far the Doctor has developed in terms of how he connects to his (new who) companions.
The ninth Doctor barely told Rose anything about the Time War, or his people, or how losing them all affected him.
The tenth Doctor and Rose barely talked about how they were feeling or anything remotely serious - the Doctor even made an off-hand comment about being a father once and then changed the subject, and Rose, who seem shocked, didn't bother to bring it up again. Reinette (in The Girl in the Fireplace) had to (kind of) force her way into his mind to see how lonely he felt, even with travelling with Rose and Mickey.
The tenth Doctor lies to Martha about his family still being alive and his planet still existing and it's only when she demands to be shown respect and told the truth, that he finally opens up to her.
In this episode, he tells Donna, voluntarily, how much pain losing his family has caused him and how he doesn't think he'll ever be able to feel that way about someone again. It's the most open, honest, and emotionally vulnerable we've seen him be so far. It's the reason why I love their relationship so much - they support each other, bring out the best in each other, and accept each other for who they are. But Donna's also not afraid to challenge the Doctor when she thinks he's wrong or has gone too far. They're true best friends. Equals. They'll always be my favourite TARDIS team 😍
Same. I like to think he shares that with River too, but even more-so. I mean hell, he tells her his name! I both love at hate that they have all these moments we'll never see xD but the actors do a great job I think in showing us all those unseen times.
Donna and Martha were great support systems for The Doctor in this episode. I also like how Donna figured out the situation of how the war originated. And also supporting Jenny and making The Doctor warm up to the idea of having a family again. There were some funny dialogue in this one. I love Donna! :D
And then we never saw her again :(
Came here to say this :(
And I don't think she's ever even mentioned again...
The one time Moffat doesn't want to kill someone
Moffat never kills anyone
They're doing big finish audio spin off with her
She is mentioned again... a couple of times, which is really sad. She could have been a regular.
Her last name is actually Moffett, not Davison, because Peter Davison's real last name is Moffett. (She's not related to Steven Moffat.) But I saw Peter Davison speak once, and he mentioned that he and Moffat have schemed to hook up Moffat's son with Davison's granddaughter, and (direct quote) "create a Moffett-Moffat dynasty that will rule Doctor Who for a thousand years."
There's no such thing as a good or bad gene. Different genetic traits are advantageous or disadvantageous *for specific environments*, but there's no such thing as a universally good or universally bad gene. (The classic example is the genetic disorder sickle cell anemia. It's harmful in most circumstances... but it makes you immune to malaria, so if you live in an area with lots of mosquitoes, it's an advantage.)
The main problem with the human genome isn't specific genes, it's that there's a very large number of us and very little genetic variation between us, so diseases spread very easily. Trying to eliminate "bad" genes would just make us more similar, and make that problem worse.
Jen A. Blue Moffat dynersty I can see that happen
Actually, her last name is Tennant, now.
David Tennant loves the 5th Doctor so much he married his daughter.
She even went to primary school and became friends with Colin Baker's daughter.
Great reaction fellas. In 2014 Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy were in Denver at a convention and Davison was asked what was the weirdest gift he was ever given by a fan to which an audience member interjected, " A granddaughter!" Davison laughed his ass off.

The reason why this machine didn't produce a full Timelord from the Doctor's DNA is that it was specifically made to work with human DNA.
Genetic code is complex and varies in length from species to species, so it's very likely that the machine simply tried to work with a length of DNA that is normal for humans and ended up cutting off some Timelord DNA.
Even if it's partially timelord it can still have the capacity for regeneration, as per..uh.
spoilers.
Well River is a human with a regeneration

Mint Dragon One of the many reasons that episode sucks.
@@Mrazmatmahmood the fourth doctor used a gun
@@Mosdra_Kazuma that was before the time war
12th is older. (And more angrier.)
@Co Moriarity He didn't actually shoot anyone in 'The End Of Time', he just shot the thing that was keeping the Time Lords there
"I never would" Tell that to Sylvester McCoy
Sylvester McCoy was a pre-War Doctor. His views on killing and weapons became significantly more decisive after witnessing the horrors of the Time War, which makes sense, all things considered.
Wolf6120 You'd think, but if you compare The Seventh Doctor and The War Doctor, The Seventh Doctor is darker and probably the only canon incarnation that's not The Valeyard that i could consider to be truly evil, he could be really horrible.
Zak Rosenfeld Or Peter Davison
Or Tom Baker in The Deadly Assassin
peter capaldi is at the stage of development where he's started accepting the use of violence a bit more. the 9th and 10th were flat out broken from the time war. guilty af. 11th lived in partial denial of it, escapism, and peter capaldi has started to accept it.
Calven looks like a younger version of gandalf 😂😂
Funny coincidence. I was thinking that he looked like a stoner version of Aragorn.
It's not regeneration energy. If you look closely, the glow coming out of her had a green tinge like the terraforming gas.
And Georgia's last name is actually Moffet (not Moffat, that's Steven), because Peter Davison's real name is Peter Moffet. And I *think* they named their daughter Olive? I seem to remember that from somewhere.
StormWolf i think there’s a Second daughter but I can’t remember the name (probably still not Jenny). I can only remember the name of one of their sons: Wilfred, because of Bernard Cribbins
They have like 5 kids at this point. I remember Tennant saying on a talkshow at one point (Graham Norton I think?) that when they told their oldest (who was a teenager at that point) they were pregnant again _he_ started lecturing _them_ on birth control😂
Also, Davidson has a son from a previous relationship before she met Tennant, and her son's favourite Doctor before they even met, was Tennant. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Whimey.
Actually her last name is Moffett. Davison is a screen name.
Yes, the doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman, was in The Five Doctors. She was also his very first companion, when the show started in 1963. She was with him the entire first season and the first two story arcs of Season 2.
What happened to the awesome doctor who style Blind Wave intro?
Probably what they got taken down for last time
What would happen if a Timelady is Pregnant and Regenerates into a man?
I am pretty sure regeneration would kill a baby even if they stayed female
surely the need for regeneration would be what killed the baby
I can't think of a Good User Name Maybe it would be like that Arnold Schwarzenegger film. The one where a guy gets pregnant
There's so much wrong with the concept that Time Lords can change genders during regeneration. Don't mean to be controversial, but them introducing that concept into mainstream canon was one of the worst decisions on the show. Yes, I know it had been "in canon", technically, before, but it was never taken as a serious idea until Moffat and the modern writers got their hands onto it and figured that Doctor Who needed political agenda more then it needs solid story telling. I just groaned when they actually made a white male Time Lord regenerate into a black woman, and made them immediately quip about how glad she is to be rid of her male ego.
Do we even know that Timelord can’t be pregnant?
The episode that started an entire family!
I would have loved to have seen Jenny return, though I see she's got her own audio adventures on Big Finish CD's. The BBC should make a Doctor Who spinoff where each week we'd get to see what the Doctor's friends, companions and villans have been getting up to "Beyond the Tardis", which is what I'd call the show. It would be a combination of origin stories, prequal and sequel stories and where are they now stories. No regular cast.
That would be neat.
0:56 I've watched this episode many times over the past 10 years and never has that line sounded suggestive until now. This is why I love it here.
5:51 I want to say about this scene
where another character did the same thing to escape the prison, in the future episode...
That's all you need to know...
A funny side story is there is a comicon video out there somewhere and Peter Davidson was asked "What's the weirdest thing a fan ever gave you." And before he can answer, someone in the audience shouts out "a grand daughter!". Davidson just busted a gut laughing.
Davison, though.
1:35 That little descending phrase in the music sounds like part of from the theme from _Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy_ (BBC Radio/TV version), in which Georgia Moffett's parents both appeared; Sandra Dickinson starred as Trillian, and Peter Davison had a cameo role in one episode. I wonder if Murray Gold had that in mind and quoted a fragment of the theme as a kind of "tribute"?
One of the main problems with Cloning is that the age of the clone will be equal to the age of the donor.
Your cells "age" and "wear down", so using them as the base for a clone means it inherits all your age and problems.
Hence why there was an old guy amongst the clones. He was born old.
Just to clarify: Timelords are not born with the ability to regenerate they are given that ability and a cycle of regenerations after graduating from the Timelord Academy
Time Lords/Gallifreyans (in books at least) use Looms to increase their population.
Not all Gallifreyans are Time Lords and not all Time Lords are Gallifreyans.
Ace was (in non-TV media) training to become a Time Lord/Lady.
But whether or not all humans/non-Gallifreyans can handle being part-Time Lord or not varies. Some humans could potentially become part-Time Lord (regenerations and all) by simply being conceived whilst traveling through the Time Vortex. Other times, their brains could potentially overheat with the knowledge a Time Lord possesses.
Jenny seems fine. Ace (depending on what media you’re looking at) either does or does not become a Time Lord.
7:45 Nono, that's the Timelord timing sorcery bullshit that 9 could do.
"Would you sleep with your daughter"
David:well yes but actually no
The actress who played Jenny (Now Tenants wife) also auditioned for the part of Rose Tyler and came pretty close to snagging it. But, then they went with Billie Piper (who did amazing :).
Interesting to think Tennant would have met her earlier then, but they probably met at the right time and it lets everyone make their jokes about the Doctor's daughter on more than one level, I suppose.
Bro the fact that they named their kid Ty Tennant "rhymes with Titanic" is just all the better. And he plays in house of the dragon.
22:59 - 'EPIGENETICS'. Interesting topic associated with inheritable genetic traits transferred from generation to generation. One particular study found an entire European village's historic births/deaths records indicated the malnutrition suffered by villagers struck by famine, didn't affect their children but did present in their grandchildren.
I love how much they appreciate Martha
No one's actually mentioned Georgia's mom, Sandra Dickinson.
Cast your mind back to the early 80's, to the original television adaptation of Douglas Adams' The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Adams used to write for Doctor Who (Tom Baker era). The actress who played Trillian in H2G2, Sandra Dickinson, with Peter Davison (who played The Dish of the Day in the Milliways section). They had married in 1978, and H2G2 came out in 1981.
I never watched the TV show, but I loved the radio show and read the books.
16:00 The Daughter Paradox
Did any of you recognize the actor Nigel Terry (who portrayed Cobb)? He portrayed King Arthur in EXCALIBUR (1981). ⚔️
Don't know if it's already been mentioned but the energy that comes out of her mouth is tinged yellow and green which suggests it wasn't a regeneration but the power of the terraforming orb healing her.
4:52 even the 10th doctor couldn't say no... he married her lmao
#doctordonna
I love that the actress of Jenny is actually the Doctor's Daughter ♥
and wife
The underwhelming Unicorn and the Wasp next and then 5 unreal episodes after that
Oran Mc Clintock *6
I actually really like Unicorn and the Wasp. It's not the greatest, but it's still enjoyable.
RIP Peg.
This reaction series is how I am rewatching Who so that I can start the Capaldi era. I stopped at his first episode, I was never able to finish that dinosaur in London plot, but when you reach it, I will begin the series from that point myself.
You're assuming, Eric, that he had a DAUGHTER before this episode; Susan, who we saw in "The Five Doctors" was his GRAND-daughter, and he might have only had (a) son(s) before. Not that it seems we'll EVER know for sure since nobody appears willing to even address the question of Susan during their time working on the show... and I refuse to accept she was NOT his grandchild in some way, even adopted - because he would not talk of being a father and grandfather (here and in "The Empty Child") if he wasn't in SOME capacity.
Theory: What if this Jenny is the same Jenny that's married to Madam Vastra a couple seasons later? Technically, this Jenny could still be regenerating at the end of this episode. Take a look at 11 at the end of 'The Time of the Doctor', he was an old man, who then regenerated into his younger self, then finished it by turning into 12. So, Jenny could have finished her regeneration after this episode ends and regenerated into the Jenny we see from seasons 6-8, even keeping the same name.
That's actually a very interesting theory.
It wasn’t a regeneration at all. It was the power of the source. Hence the colour. “Half regeneration” healing you without changing your face wouldn’t make sense cause that’s a whole different process.
16:05 I'm glad he said it! I was hoping they would find out about David having married the 5th doctors daughter.
This was one of my favorite Tennant episodes.
Two more episodes to Silence in the Library. Can't wait!
16:07 Lots of really interesting stuff there.
This was the episode where David met his wife. What a strange thing to happen. Georgia started dating David around near the end of his tenure as the 10th doctor in 2009. They got engaged in 2011 and married in December 2011, and are still together. David is stepfather and now adopted father of Georgia's first born son Ty. They have 4 other kids together, a large loving family.
Donna was great in this episode and I love the scenes with Martha and The Hath. It was really sad to see Peck die. Man, the last few moments were rough when Jenny got shot and The Doctor’s reaction. There was a final scene with him and Donna that got deleted, I wish they kept it. But thankfully Jenny lives and gets to have more adventures with Big Finish very soon. :)
Georgia Moffet ,the actress who plays Jenny ,is David Tennants wife (they met during this episode). She is also the daughter of Peter Davison ,who is the Fifth Doctor and Tennants personal favorite aswell since he grew up a big fan of the show
Some truly wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff
Taimur Muggo tom baker was tenants faviorate. Peter Davidson is second
So does the Doctor have some secret super acrobatic talent?
I am writing this before watching the video, and my prediction is a simple one: Shane's gonna love himself some Doctor's Daughter.
Run you clever girl!
I appreciate Eric’s Workaholics reference
She is so hot
Tenth Doctor you are absolutely sick. Incest!!!
Tenth Doctor LOL incesty fuck
Fifth Doctor
Look at what you become... :/
The actor is Tennant's wife soooo...
Donna mentions GI Jane. There is a sequel staring Will Smith's wife called GI Jane 2 cant wait to see it!!
Shane was absolutely thirsty today, wasn't he?
Aaron : "What's the old-fashion way?"
Me : "Oh, I don't know... Looms or something."
The actress who plays Jenny is actually the Doctor's daughter, as she is the daughter of Fifth Doctor Peter Davison. But she's also the Doctor's wife, as she ended up marrying David Tennant
At a convention Peter Davidson was asked ‘what’s the weirdest thing a fan has given you?’ A genius in the crowd shouted out ‘a granddaughter!’ 😂
You can see it here ruclips.net/video/qkQop3yDGGM/видео.html
I'm hoping Jenny's Big Finish Spin Off will make her better
Today, in: 'Intro, or no intro,' ...
No, intro.
Aaron explaining the doctor's "lineage"
Remember people, all the machine does is recombine your DNA into a different configuration, Meaning no new DNA is introduced, so the byproduct is about as close as you can get to a clone while not actually being one.
funny how she is really the doctor's daughter irl cause shes the daughter of the peter davison aka fifth doctor
Wow! What an amazing character! I can't wait to see more of h- annnddd you never see her again for the rest of the show...
Can't wait for her to come back in the Big Finish audios!
Ahhh Jenny the feels return I love that soldier

Timelord reproduction is confused and subject to retcon. Old lore states that the timelords where infertile and new made on some kind of genetic "loom". Not quite sure how that works but it was a thing.
I thought we'd get a spinoff with Jenny when she regenerated (with the same face, no less).

I recently watched most of the first doctor and all of where the granddaughter was in it unless she comes back with a different version of the doctor and I don't think they even decided he was a time lord or from gallifrey just very vague with it all so a later writer could fill it in and leave it a mystery for the time being to grow the fan base before deciding
It reminds me a bit of john scalzi's Old Man's War.

There is another marriage between Timelords in real life! During some of Tom Baker's 7 years as the Doctor, he had a female companion who was also a Timelord.
