Rory does in fact remember those 2,000 years. You should all know this, especially Aaron. When the Tardis was appearing at the wedding he even mentions "and then I was plastic"
It was incredibly obvious in the episode itself, and it's not treated as a reveal at all when it comes up again. It's treated as something the audience already knows.
I've always loved this Christmas special. Such an original take on a classic. There's also a nice balance between the tragic and the humor in the episode. I just really enjoy it. I'm glad they liked it too.
I love the inventive aspect of how he is watching his own timeline get rewritten and experiencing it, new and fresh, while the doctor and the kid are in turn also experiecing it. Basically I just like the Time Travel idea for this episode. It was fresh and interesting for me.
The part with meeting the “ghost of Christmas yet to come” and it was the Doctor showing his younger self the Bitter old future self always gives me chills.
@@LORDdrPepper then your opinion of it being the worst era for doctor who is uninformed... if you havent even bothered to watch the series then you shouldnt trash it. Especially seeing as some of the best writing in who is in Capaldi's era.
MavenCree it tough for Aaron. I’m sure he wanted to say that but then that spoils a great episode in the future. A few of their questions can be answered by saying “it’ll get explained later”. The doctors wife does a good job of resolving many of the time/tardis questions. She manages it all! 😀
Moffat haters be like: It all goes downhill after season 4 Blind Wave: That was the best written season with the best arc and the best Christmas episode HA.
Wow, I can't believe I completely forgot about the details of this one. I remembered it vaguely, but I honestly didn't recall it being so nice and heartfelt. Such a clever way to use the time travel idea and mix it with a classic story.
I remember watching this episode in a post-Christmas-dinner food coma and just being like "wtf, Katherine Jenkins and flying sharks?!" But in retrospect, it's one of the best Christmas specials! :)
It's such a nice episode and I always laugh during it. I completely cannot wait for the first episode of the next season. It's my favourite season to see new reactions of.
I'm usually not huge on the Christmas specials, and neither am I huge on rehashing Dickens' A Christmas Carol. But this episode is among the better Christmas episodes and provides a fresh re-imagining of the classic story in a way only something like Doctor Who can provide.
Rory will always remember those 2000 years, and I love the "Jumping the Shark" joke. The next episode and season is one of the greatest, but I can't remember what the antagonist looks like...
Every time I think back to S6 I'm surprised by how many episodes I remember really liking. I think the Pirate one and the rebel flesh two-parters are the only ones I didn't care for.
Abigail singing always gives me goosebumps. Michael Gambon said it was a good thing he didn't have any lines in that scene. She was literally singing on set and he was so shook by the power in her voice (she's an opera singer in rl) and having to stand so close while she sang that he doubted he could have gotten any sound out.
Season 6 is my all time, ultimate favourite season in Doctor Who. It's the most interesting, well made, complicated links between episodes and just generally fantastic! I cant wait to see their reactions!!!
The Day of The Doctor is the biggest disgrace to the show it's supposed to be The 50th Anniversary but it was really the 8 year Anniversary of Modern Who not to mentioned they ruined The 10th Doctor
Yep. Guess they forgot about the wedding when he said "I was plastic. He was the stripper at my stag."

Matt's hair was changed because of continuity - the messy hair was making keeping continuity between shots really hard, that's why they tamed it a bit.
A lot of fans don't really like season 6 as a whole, but it has some of my all time favourite episodes of Doctor Who. Stoked to see how you guys like it!
Fun fact: Abigail is played by a famous Welsh classical singer called Katherine Jenkins - that was her actual singing voice at the end of the episode! I remember when this episode first aired, and everyone was waiting for her to sing hahah
11's hair is a lot better starting with this episode, it's less "big" and more styled. Matt Smith also seems to feel a lot more comfortable in the role around now, I always thought he peaked around season 6
I actually feel the complete opposite of that. I preferred him with his untamed mane, before they tamed it. I think maybe it goes hand in hand with how i love his natural eccentricity in his first season, before the writers started to latch on to it and make it a "thing" in his second and third seasons. What was it the Dream Lord said in 'Amy's Choice'? Ah, yes - "Tawdry quirks". For me, S5 11 is peak 11.
Kinda wondering if the guys understand who Steven Moffat is. Would help them understand the Sherlock-style of some times and it's always nice to know who the showrunner is and try and get his style watching his episodes.
Yeah, they know Moffat wrote both shows. Or at the very least, they know Moffat co-wrote Sherlock and some episodes of DW. I don't know if Aaron has told them that he is (was) the current showrunner....
I love the parallels between the Doctor/River story and Kazran/Abigail. I always go back to the look on the Doctor's face when Kazran asks "How do you choose which day?"
Rory does remember those years as a centurion because SPOILERS in a later episode Rory and Amy argue and he mentions the years he waited as a point in the argument
Yeah. Although the others were more open to Matt than Eric & his shallow, narrow-minded view of eleven (:D only half joking), they haven't really been singing his praises until this episode.
Yes. I suppose you're right. They didn't sing his praises at all in this episode, or come to think of it, in any other ep.. Compared to their loved-up adoration for Captain Jack in 'Touchwood' (especially Eric's), their praise is faint re. Matt. 'I'm biased. I LOVED him from 'The Eleventh Hour', as his brilliance was on display then, imo.
Haha. Your last point about Eric going off on a tangent...again re. Matt's face, made me laugh. He's adopted that Hollywood-perfect/American shallowness. I personally find Matt's Doctor the most attractive. Rewatching him through these reactions, has made me realise how great his performance as a young & old, child-like & wise Doctor really was. Side note: I hope today's premiere episode engrosses me as much as s5's first episode did.
I've always loved this Christmas episode, and it's to this day among my absolute favourites (both Christmas episodes and episodes in general). It's also a surprisingly good one-off introduction to new Who-viewers, I've noticed. Glad you guys enjoyed it, even if it made me start crying about Christmas episodes in September. Well, at least I wasn't alone tearing up! Also, Michael Gambon is a great actor, so that definitely adds to the episode. And while I don't think Matt Smith looked bad at all before... I kind of have to agree with Eric that he looks BETTER now. He's certainly "grown" in a way, and I do prefer his hair here to his s5 hair. Looking forward to rewatching s6 and seeing the crew's reaction to it. It's going to be fun.
Katherine Jenkins (Abigail) is a renowned welsh singer (classical, operatic, pop). Doctor Who was her first major acting role and that is her singing Abigail's Song (Silence is all you know). Here is a live performance of the song: ruclips.net/video/CBmyoq3ZDWU/видео.html When you're alone, silence is all you see When you're alone, silence is all you'll be Give me your hand and come to me When you are here, music is all around When you are near, music is all around Open your eyes, don't make a sound Let in the shadow, let in the shadow Let in the light of your bright shadow Let in the shadow, let in the shadow Let in the light of your bright shadow
Forgot to say, the director of this block of Who episodes (from The Pandorica Opens through to Day of the Moon), Toby Haynes, also directed "The Reichenbach Fall" episode of Sherlock a couple of years later.
Fans know of the Doctor's three wives (Susan's grandmother, River Song, and Queen Elizabeth I). But I like to pretend Marilyn Monroe was his secret wife. Like John Hurt was the secret Doctor.
I've always wondered why kazran or Abigail never asked the Doctor if he could cure her illness, I mean from their perspective he's done nothing but amazing things, the first thing they did with him is save a shark on the brink of Death. He's literally called the Doctor, surely it wouldn't do any harm in seeing if he could help her, in a later story we see he has the cure for blood clots just lying around.
TO EVERYONE LOOKING FOR THEIR SEAPSM 6 EPISODE 1 REACTION: look on their patreon, I've just watched 6x0.5 and 6x1 for free. it wasn't early access but idk why its not on their youtube
The song she sings in this episode is stunningly beautiful, and it always got to me; but after my mother in law passed I can't listen to it without fighting tears now because it was played at her funeral. She was a big fan of Doctor Who and loved that song. I can't separate it from her now.
I've never actually liked A Christmas Carol except for Scrooged. After I saw this episode of Doctor Who, now I have my favorite version of A Christmas Carol.
The line I remember best from this is where old Sardick is on the phone and says: "As a very old friend of mine once took a very long time to explain: LIFE ISN'T FAIR!" It's something so simple that we so often tend to forget, because we wish it was fair. And also because in his original life he was cruel to the world, because that's all he had been taught by his father; but in his altered life he became cruel, because of the pain of grief over his dying best friend.
Eric saying they can get away with it, it basically as the Doctor said in this episode "Christmas Eve, saw a chimney, my whole brain just went WHAT THE HELL". The show get away with anything & everything because why not. Also, the kid is Charles Xavier from First Class as well.
Face of Boe didn't die of old age.. He died because he gave all his energy to run the machine to open the doors for all the flying cars to come up during the 1st ep of Martha Jones episode after they met
