As a Mexican woman, I see that the designers chose this doll to look like a central Mexican indigenous woman, she looks beautiful. The dress is very simple more simple than our traditional Mexican folklore outfits but it’s ok. Her calavera 💀 make up is simple but cute. I think this doll looks realistic to the point of how sometimes there is Mexican women who run out of time to creat a very detailed día de los muertos outfit and put together a simple outfit for el día de los muertos and end up looking like this Barbie doll. I would buy her.
I absolutely love this doll! I preordered it the day it was released. I love that in the description they describe her as nahuatl which is Aztecs based Mexico and Central America. I thought that it was so unique that Kris Goyori put so many of those nahuatl features in her like the turquoise beads, the colors of the belt, the original color and shape of the Cempasúchils and how the earrings represent the Aztec sun stone
I absolutely love the inspiration he used for the doll. I know a lot of collectors missed the traditional Mexican outfits of the earlier DDM releases but seeing this one with a different take on Dia de Muertos is so refreshing too ♥️
The Nahuatl tribe is from central Mexico not Central America and the Aztecs spoke the Nahuatl language but were not the Nahuatl tribe, the Aztecs are a branch tribe of the Nahuatl. The tradition of el día de los muertos ( the day of the dead 💀) originated by the Purepecha tribe in Michoacán Mexico and they influenced the Aztecs during precolonial times. El día de los muertos was only practiced in central Mexico for thousands of years it wasn’t the entire country and the tradition remained in only México. This doll has central Mexican indigenous features not features from Central America their different indigenous people look ver different in comparison to the 68 different indigenous tribes we have in Mexico.
I just checked the description of this new día de los muertos barbie, this doll is not confirmed to be of the Nahuatl tribe of central Mexico. No offense but Central America is not mentioned in the description because they have nothing to do with Nahuatl tribe and the tradition/ ceremony of el día de los muertos an antique indigenous Mexican tradition/ ceremony. This doll is inspired by the “Mictlan” a Nahuatl/ nahua word that means the cosmovisión of the path a soul takes to travel the world of the dead and she comes with a Mexican hairless dog a Xolo/ xoloitzcuintle who is believed to guide the souls through their journeys. This doll is a Mexican woman dressed with the inspiration of the pathway to the world of the dead “Mictlan”.
I think The cempasúchil flower path in the skirt symbolizes the path to an ofrenda altar. Which traditionally is a 3 tier table covered in a plain white tablecloth. The symbolism is spot on.
I'm mexican , and to me she is the most mexican looking dia de muertos doll just because of how traditional she looks, I really like her design and she's my favourite out of this designer dia de muertos line so far that being said I never considered buying her since I mainly collect playline so Idc about her price but I can see why many people feel like such a simple design is not worth $100.
The Aztec inspiration is strong ♥️ I guess a lot of us were expecting the elaborate and grand designs like those of earlier DDMs, but this one is also pretty!
I think she’s perfect! And very Mexican (I’m Mexican btw). The dress might be white but it’s not simple IMO. It’s a beautiful cut. I am actually happy to see a big shift from the other gowns because I feel like they’re becoming cliche… specially the last Ken! I wish they would have someone else design the next Ken because I’m tired of charro outfits. Mexican culture is beautiful but it has more to offer than what we keep seeing from this line IMO.
She is a beautiful doll. To me she looks like a regular person who puts on the Calverita make-up and is going out to a Dia de los Muertos celebration, and she has dressed up accordingly. I love her red boots. I love her dress. I will buy her dress when an Ebay seller puts it out there to buy. Then I will buy me a MTM African American doll, because there are black Mexicans. I will dress my MTM African American doll in this dress and make her a black Mexican who is celebrating Dia de los Muertos.
Lol, I’ve been hearing the “doesn’t look Mexican” thing my whole life. These dolls have gorgeous outfits but I feel like Mattel is relying too much on the Calaberitas paint and not really giving us the full potential of these dolls.
@@roxaslove23 I do love those but I didn’t get too much into DDMs until recently, so by the time I wanted to get them they’re already waaaay too expensive lol. Good thing I was able to get 2021-2023!
I had my doubts about this doll cause compared with the other two doll it’s so simple! But it’s basically how the designers brand is all about simple but beautiful. I had to come up with a story based on what the designer main concept was and I thought of her being a Chaman goddess from the jaguar tribe who guides the lost souls where they belong 🤷🏻♂️ and that was only the way I could get to love her. Btw Pink Magnolia is also my favorite from the DDM designers line 💗
As a white man I have to say at first I was underwhelmed by the "plainness" of this doll but after getting more knowledge about the culture I really appreciate the simplicity
Since I’m not Mexican I can’t really speak on whether or not she does look Mexican enough but I must say she’s a pretty doll and I love her long black hair and white dress ❤
I commented on the short that I like this dress. I adore her long hair. However, I dislike the face paint and would have preferred a removable mask. I don’t own any of this series, and I don’t intend to purchase this doll, for that reason.
The dress is indeed pretty. Would be nice to have a removable mask but I believe they’re trying to stay true to the Mexican tradition of having actual calavera face paint on Dia de Muertos hence the permanent face-up instead of a mask. I do love the series, my only gripe is the articulation! Wish they had articulated model muses ♥️
I think the details are on point! She is very Mexican and respresents us well. Question is how should a Mexican look like? We Mexicans come in different colors, different face shapes & etc. If you read the history of Mexico, before the Spanish invaded, Mexico was primarily home to the Natives. She is depicted beautifully.
I do think she’s been beautifully depicted. I believe the comments about her not being “Mexican enough” is due to the ingrained images of previous Dia de Muertos Barbies Mattel released. I love this look because it’s not the usual that we get every year. Must also be the reason why she sold out so quickly
Not worth $100😬Mattel should have hired someone else to do better job. She deserves inset eyes, removable mask, some real embroidery on that God awful dress. Is she articulated ? if not, she should be.

You’re correct! I love the symbolisms used in this doll ♥️

I agree. This is a different take on DDM and I love it just the same ♥️
She's lovely❤
Beautiful 🤍🧡

That’s a really neat idea! I do love her dress too. It looks simple yet unique ♥️

Yeah. I actually miss the older DDM dolls especially the likes of 2019 and 2020
@@TysCollectibles those were such gorgeous dolls!

She does look like a goddess ♥️ but Pink Magnolia definitely tops my list
Beautifully done, but is to expensive for me💕
The designer collab Barbies are always more expensive than their signature DDMs… and I always end up missing them! 😭
As a white man I have to say at first I was underwhelmed by the "plainness" of this doll but after getting more knowledge about the culture I really appreciate the simplicity
You and me both! I was unsure how I like her but she’s grown on me!
the designer is a minimalist and she is wearing certain mazahua elements, for me whe is perfectly congruent
Since I’m not Mexican I can’t really speak on whether or not she does look Mexican enough but I must say she’s a pretty doll and I love her long black hair and white dress ❤
I do too. She’s so lovely!

She is beautiful! Glad I got my doll!
Ha!….. in the 2000s there were affordable “designer” dolls of brads I have actually heard of…. Then again…. I’ve never needed validation from toys.
Quality back then was 💯
I think she is too simple for $100 but I see the inspiration
Yes, she has lots of symbolism. ♥️
Not worth $100😬Mattel should have hired someone else to do better job. She deserves inset eyes, removable mask, some real embroidery on that God awful dress. Is she articulated ? if not, she should be.
Oh no she’s not articulated. She has the basic articulation only but that’s about it.
