    I am no film buff, but this film has always been a favourite of mine too. Rather enjoy watching folk reacting to it these days. Edward Woodward was part of my youth in a dark TV show called Callan that my parents used to watch. There was an old joke about him appearing on stage in a theatre but his name on the billboard had lost most of the consonants, thus he is forever known in this household as 'Ewa Woowa'. Well I thought it was funny. One of my favourite actors.

      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 месяца назад +1

      I've heard of Callan, but have never seen it. Wicker Man kind of dominates his career now, which is ironic, since when the film was first released, it was a dismal failure. Took decades for the world to catch up. He was also The Equalizer. Thanks so much.

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShow Well, honestly, I remember feeling much the same about him when he got the Equalizer gig as I did about Terry Williams in Dire Straits as we previously briefly discussed. I was really pleased for him.

      @@martinstarnes2237 lol - I can understand that. The Wicker Man was such a failure after its release - so yea - I get being happy for him with the success of the Equalizer. Of course, the irony is now he's remembered for the Wicker Man. Time caught up with him.

    I don’t know how I missed seeing “The Wicker Man.” Of all the film genres, nothing beats a “great” horror movie in my book. (“Great” being the operative word) It’s on my list of movies to watch. You certainly are the go-to guy for all things “Wicker Man.”

    I first saw it on it's debut on British TV maybe around 78, as a 14 year old it had a profound effect on me, who can not be effected by that ending. It's without doubt one of my favourite films, probably favourite . It's of its time, but yet not dated, the music, cracking.
    I think this must have been the start of my love of Folk Rock? The silver double CD was the first album from the original master tapes, it was due a release when the film was made I think.
    When it was shown in cinemas in the UK it was a B movie to Don't Look Now, which has Equal status in the horror genre without being a horror movie. What a double bill!!!
    Thanks for getting it out there Alan.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks Keith - you are so right. They editied the film down to show as the opener to Donald Sutherland's Don't Look Now. And then the full length film was thought lost for decades. They've been piecing it back together since. The original Trunk soundtrack release was in mono because they simply took the edited film soundtrack, so has some dialog, sound effects and the songs left in....was missing Gently Johnny which was cut. When they re-edited the film, it includes that great scene and song and then finally Silva released that great soundtrack CD as you said.

    Always loved this film, that's a real cool book and I'm jealous of the vinyl. Edward Woodward's second wife Michele Dotrice was/is famous in Britain for the popular 70's comedy show Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, her sister Karen was briefly famous as one of the 2 children in Mary Poppins and her late father actor Roy Dotrice holds a Guinness World Record for the most character voices (224) in audiobook narration for the 'A Game of Thrones' series.(I can't help spouting trivia at every available opportunity).

    This film struck a chord when I saw it on TV as a kid. Paganism winning out over Christianity really creeped me out. I now have it on Blu Ray but haven’t played it yet. I need to be in the right frame of mind before I return to that island. 🤷‍♂️

    Do you prefer the theatrical or Final cut of The Wicker Man?
    A lot of Wicker Man footage that was not part of the completed cut was buried underground, lost forever.
    I like Nick Coppola (Cage), but not the remake of TWM.
    Face/Off is one of my faves
    Isn't there a Midsommar directors cut as well?

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 месяца назад

      People seem to not like the theatrical cut as they think you lose the history of Edward Woodward's character, but I thinks its fine. But I certainly prefer the extended cut at 99 minutes, a bit more explicit. The quality of the film changes on the extended cut, because the lost material was found but they did the best they could with it. The blu-ray / DVD I have of Midsommer is 147 minutes plus a documentary.

  • @noahbody9747
    @noahbody9747 2 месяца назад

    I bought the box set several years ago. I didn't know it was a numbered release. I probably noticed the number in the back, but just didn't think much of the meaning. I did read there were cuts made to the movie prior release. The 99 minute version has inserted a deleted scene but the scene is a lower quality clip (though it's very valuable - it's a little soft and you can tell form viewing which is the re-inserted scene). I think there may be another scene added but can't recall. I did read the movie was edited but it was so long ago I can't recall if all the deleted scenes were put back in the movie. The dance by willow while the constable is watching is highly erotic.
    I did see the Nick Cage version. Total crapfest. The critics, and rightly so, called it worse movie of the year (POS in short).
    Follow-up: A body double used for Ms. Ekland's dance. She was pregnant at the time.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 месяца назад

      thanks. In the extended version, they did add the missing footage and yes your correct it is a lesser quality and very apparent - you can't miss it. even so, it's worth having in there. yes Britt Ekland was early pregnant, not that you can really tell. They show her breasts but when she's gyrating against the wall and you see her back and bottom, that is not hers. She actually was quite upset that used another bottom. She said it was a "fatter ass" than hers...lol. Looked very nice to me...lol
