I absolutely LOVE HitFilm, one of the best video editing software's out there, but am totally perplexed by FXhome's trendy fascination and literal push toward so called "vertical video". Movies (and TV for that matter) started out as a 4:3 ratio, almost square format, and pretty much remained that way until the mid-50's at which time cinema creators started shooting in widescreen which truly did improve the viewing experience, and it took TV manufacturers and creators another 40+ years of showing movies in the frustrating pan-and-scan 4:3 format to FINALLY switch to a widescreen 16:9 ratio; even computer screens suffered this 4:3 to 16:9 ratio conversion, but did so at a much faster pace. Comfortably viewing media had FINALLY evolved to mimic the natural horizontal layout of our eyes, and watching media had never been better! Now we're supposed to turn our cameras sideways and take a giant step backwards to accept vertical video because newbies with cellphones can't figure out how to hold their phone width-wise for widescreen video, and TikTok fanatics think it's cool?!? A hundred-plus years of media evolution towards natural, widescreen viewing devolved for a truly ill-thought trend??? Sorry but no thanks; I'll pass on this and any other backward-moving media concept!
I personally dislike the vertical video format, simply because there is more of value to be seen from side to side than top to bottom in most circumstances. No matter what aspect ratio you use, filming and editing using software and equipment dedicated to the task is going to be preferable for quality videos. I will reiterate that I am not fond of watching the TikTok format on a RUclips channel, not only because what I want to see is generally cut off, but the controls to pause, rewind and comment are not as easy to access as the RUclips versions.. I am not on TikTok and have heard nothing about it that would make me want to join. Good advice in this video that applies to all types of creations.
IT feels like your video tutorials have really moved away form the film fcommunity and more towards social media. I understand you need growth but I do miss the old tutorials and the collabs with people like film Riot and the likes.
The HitFilm part of this tutorial was jam-packed with info, but as a newbie, I need a way slower version to actually learn some of the techniques mentioned.
Why did you show the upload process to youtube shorts? I have tried numerous times, the aspect ration is 100% right and it never gets uploaded as a short.. can you explain this please? A video like this would be super useful but even a comment would help I guess
Don't put text too far to the right or bottom, that's where TikTok puts icons and text which makes it harder to read IMHO. Maybe make a template for it that you can import into your project. And what I personally find annoying: using the selfie-camera as a mirror instead of a camera. Talking about "on their right" which is then on their left, or text on a t-shirt or product that is mirrored/hard to read.
Everyone - help me understand before I get started. I will be making TikTok videos for my new channel using videos that I shot in Japan on a full video camera, I did NOT use my phone. These videos are full video clips. I will be editing them down to TikTok videos and using my desktop computer to do it. If I use FXhome, can I edit the videos on my desktop, use their software and make quality TikTok videos ideal for TikTok formats? Just want to ensure I understand before purchasing. Thank you
@Daniel Isa Pinto It does not have auto trim on changing clip speed. If you change clip speed to say 2.4 times, it will not trim the original clip. It will black out the rest of the clip and you have to fid and trim yourself.
Sorry for the dumb question: will the export preset mean the finished video is 9:16 ratio? I've been editing pre-filmed tiktoks in hitfilm for the last few months but I always find I need to crop the video out of 16:9 landscape format afterwards!
Wish I had this video like a year ago, I figured this out the hard way a couple of tips I didn't know like pro skin An issue I'm having with HitFilm Express is when I'm doing a big edit every now and again it jumps to fullscreen for a couple of seconds then back to window mode anything I can do to fix this?
Which edit do you think has the better quality? Head on over to our TikTok to watch the final videos.

I love it when you guys understand exactly what creators need. Thanks, this really helped!
We’re really glad to hear that. Thank so much for your support! 🙌

Well said. It's trash! Unsubscribing!
you beautiful genius! This video will have at least 6 digits in 2 years
Making the project file into 1080x1920 (vertical) requires an upgrade and will put a watermark on the video. Incredible.

@FXhome it is interesting to see vertical videos becoming more of a thing. Why is that?
When are you going to get with the times and do 4k portrait editing
Great video.
Super informitive.
Glad it was helpful!

Will hitfilm get an update anytime soon?
Its been 6months or so right?
when will we get optical flow in hitfilm in speed effect
( I really want that effect )
vertical mode baby 📱
Actually, the lack of built-in transitions for footage and text is exactly why i do not use Hitfilm for vertical videos 😅😅 What do you think?

Unfortunately, the latest version of Hitfilm Express (the free version) doesn't allow you to make vertical videos.....
Thanks

Please improve the process of speed ramping in Hitfilm, it is not that convenient to do.
The speed effect is really unreliable

How do I make shorts with HitFilm express

Yes! If your timeline settings are 9:16 when you’re editing, then the final video will be the same if you use these preset settings!

anything I can do to fix this?
So when is hitfilm becoming hittock? 🤔
It already has, it's crap! Unsubscribing!
Is FXhome on available on Android now
how to increase hight and width for vertical video to 4k res
whyyy does shorts format have to be premium. Do you really think I have money?? How can simply changing dimensions warrant a price tag.
