We continue the traditions of John saying he loves the Oscars and awards and always picks the wrong people because he doesn’t actually follow the award season. There’s zero chance RDJ is not sweeping.
I know a lot of you are Oppenheimer fans, but Paul Giamatti is my Brendan Fraser this year. He is one of my favorite actors, and I've wanted him to win a Best Actor Oscar for 20 years, and he might actually get it this time. Please tell me I am not the only one.
As much as “Succession” deserves all the love, I’d really love to see Pedro and Bella win the SAG for “The Last of Us”. They just both did an incredible job, and Pedro has been working for over 20 years in Hollywood-he deserves some recognition!
I’ll be happy if either Paul or Cillian win. I won’t be mad. Shocked that Greta Lee wasn’t nominated. Hope Lily or Emma wins. Let’s not forget RDJ has potential to win. Won’t be mad if anyone else even Robert De Niro wins.
Am i the only person stunned that margot robbie and ryan gossling got nominated? I love them both as actors, truly world class. But for Barbie, you gotta be kidding me. I know it was a monster hit at the box office, but this movie didnt require great acting nor was the movie elite. Imagine trying to compare barbie and its acting performances to gladiator, or braveheart or any other academy level movie and performances. Not trying to hate on the movie, but its not in the same class as the others that received nominations.
@@suicune7712 agreed, but this wasn’t a great comedy, at least in my opinion. I don’t recall comedies like old school, 40 year old virgin, there’s something about marry, forgetting sarah marshall, superbad, the hangover, ted, horrible bosses, friday, beverly hills cop, coming to america, or any other great comedy receiving sag or academy attention for its acting. Perhaps they should, as i often hear people say that comedic acting is harder than dramatic.
I feel like Barbie doesn’t get the recognition it deserves because the subject matter is perceived as trivial, little girls play thing, so not a serious subject. But if you look at it from a filmmaking and performance perspective it’s, it’s no less deserving than say the Grand Budapest hotel or any given West Anderson movie.
@@davecamadini SAG awards doesn't go back as far as the 80s but comedies like Birdcage and Being John Malkovich received multiple acting nominations. The Full Monty won best cast. Jamie Lee Curtis won for True Lies. And more recently Maria Bakolova was nominated for Borat. If comedy performance hit the mark with voters then they get recognised - but yes I think there is a bias towards dramatic turns. Though I'm guessing the last time Robert Downey Jr was nominated was for Tropic Thunder.
12:56 Yes it’s a historical movie and so is Bradly Cooper’s Maestro. The difference is Bradley has a diverse crew *behind the camera* for Maestro. Hollywood virtue signals about diversity. *George Clooney said “racism is America’s original sin”* but according to IMDB he produces many films which lack diversity *behind the camera* and in front camera 😂
I love - Cillian Murphy to win Best Actor Robert Downey Jr to win Best Supporting male Actor Oppenheumer to win Best Cast Essemble For reason it's really THE BEST with BEST ACTORS & BEST DIRECTOR - they together achieve exceptional box office record for a biopic.👏💥🔥💖
Best cast ensemble I think it’s going to be very tight. American fiction as a cast imo is so dam good. I think Jeffrey wright performance is good but dam that script and ensemble did a lot. It’s that dam good. Oppenheimer has the better all star team but American fiction, had more of an ensemble than Oppenheimer. Which I felt at time felt like it was name dropping with some of its ensemble. Color purple watch out I think it’s right there too. But, I think American fiction is winning best cast ensemble.
Da’vine is an amazing actress I love her work. I hope she does win it she was great in that,High fidelity, the lost city, the blackening, murders in the building. She fantastic she makes every scene great and can carry a lead to a better performance. That being said Penelope made Ferrari respectable she carried that film. Everytime she was on screen boom okay she reving the engine. Then Shailene came on and that took me out, then Penelope came back and boom she is electrifying in that film. It’s a tight race imo but Da’vine edges her out she’s just great, and I’m glad she got more screen time because man I really love her work.😂👍🏽
Best ensemble I think American fiction might take it. Oppenheimer has a great astar ensemble but I felt it started to become a name drop of list, where characters didn’t make Oppenheimer greater.Whereas American fiction I believe it worked because of the ensemble. Oppenheimer was fine without some of its ensemble because Cillian was great as Matt, rdj,Florence Pugh. But American fiction that ensemble did a lot of heavy lifting. Not to take anything from Jeffrey wright, but his ensemble elevated that movie.
Best Actor is a dead heat between Murphy and Giamatti. It could go either way. Cooper is 3rd on the list. Oppenheimer should walk away with best ensemble. Its a ridiculous ensemble and it basically has half of Hollywood in it. There are so many terrific performances in the movie that aren't even listed in that ensemble like Jason Clarke, Benny Safdie, Tom Conti, Alden Ehrenreich, Matthew Modine among many others.
Someone’s not paying attention to what’s going on in the industry. The Golden Globes are no longer run by the Foreign Press Association. FPA were 60 “” critics ““ the voting body has been increased to 300 and is racially diverse now. That’s why the nominations seem to make much more sense this year. The Golden Globes are a Dick Clarke production now. DCP has reformed the Golden Globes to include diversity and equity so there’s that.
My problem with the whole Lily Gladstone Best Actress from the campaign leading to the nominations is her ethnicity and her identity is overpowered by her talent. When you look to Michelle Yeoh or Angela Basset, the talent came first before all of the identity politics. She is riding in the clout of her being the first native american who will win Best Actress or who will be nominating among her peers.
I’m fine with this as there are cases where actors and directors get awards NOT for their current film but just because it’s their time. And im fine with Lilly winning over Emma Stone after the Aloha casting controversy.

I want to see Zack Efron on that list for the iron claw. Great performance that's being overlooked because A24 released the movie late Christmas week

Cillian not Killian for future reference there is no K in the Irish language, so the C are pronounced as K
