@@malakzaiter2291 the simple truth is, the Empress, and probably the entire harem, knew Ruyi was the Emperor's first choice. She became Empress by virtue of the power of her clan, not because the Emperor loved her. She should've just make the best of it but she let her jealousy get the best of her.
Everyone says that Ruyi defeated the Empress and taught the Princess a lesson, that might be true but this is also the moment she sealed her own fate. The Princess grew to hate her from this moment on, realizing probably that she supported her marriage in Mongolia (in which she was very unhappy) instead of her aunts, which in turn speed her mother, the Empress, death. And as she grew older Jingse became truly formidable, eventually managing to destroy Ruyi without even getting her hands dirty.

My surprise is that the princess hadn't realized she would eventually be a part of a political marriage. Upper class women were routinely used in this way, especially women from the royal family. Even though this is a drama, the daughter of a emperor would have known from youth what her fate would be.
Actually, there was a case historically that a Princess didn't have to marry off somewhere out of a political alliance and it was the same dynasty as this one. There was a Princess that was the only daughter out of 18 sons and she was treated like a Queen her whole life. Her father loved her so much she married within the capital and was shielded by all political bloodshed. Even after her father (The Emperor) died, she was given a lot of wealth and none of her brothers or nephews went after her while they were killing each other for power.
Yes that's sometime happened but she thought she could be spared consider she is her father favorite. Qianlong is well known to adore his daughters over his sons. This princess was the heart of his heart, granted noble titles since she was 3, and her living expenses were that of Imperial Noble Consort (only 1 rank lower than her mother the Empress).
Favorite daughters are sometime kept home if possible by marrying to high ranking officials so they can stay in the capital. The 10th princess, who Qianlong also adore, was married to the highest officer's son. And granted so much well and privileges. This princess (in the video) is unlucky because she's the only one of appropriate age so she was married off.

I like the translation. The other one is good. This one has more explanation and dialog. Ruyi talks in a non attacking assertive way. I like how she tells the Princess the truth since her parents couldn't do it.

I love this series so much, I often find myself either rewatching it again or catching clips over and over
It's really worth watching again and again.
The empress and her daughter is so rude... Even dead relative of Ruyi, the real Empress Dowager, added to their conversation and I think she made Ruyi a bit angry. Also, she insulted Ruyi regarding dead back up... Which is Ruyi's Aunt and Father. Plus, she mentioned Ruyi have no kids. She is lucky that Ruyi did not slapped to her face the bracelet that she gave to her and Hui gufaei. So, Ruyi ended their conversation by saying "take care of your health." She's worried about her position. And even, Ruyi informed her about the cold palace. She felt that Ruyi and the emperor knows what she did. Hahahahaha!
I know right? I hate the empress she’s so ridiculously insecure it’s actually absurd and desperately trying to win the emperor’s love it’s pathetic her desperation and not to mention treating Ruyi as her lifetime rival just because she has the shit emperor’s affection. And her shit daughter who’s so unnecessarily arrogant like your born a girl tough luck your an alliance pawn and subject before your a daughter so no need for the excessive arrogance precious papa’s gonna have to marry you off anyway. May I ask if legitimate princess don't have to give any, ya'll know, the gretting. Like she kinda, when Ruyi and Chun arrive, she just sitting there arrogantly and don't even greet them. I know she is legitimate princess but Ruyi and Chun is her father's mistress, can be said as her "seniors" in some way too.
And in my opinion, if Yonglian and Yongcong didn't dead early and still alive until now, where Jingse is force marry away to Mongolia (sorry if im wrong), the empress should have send her already. In my opinion, the empress scared losing Jingse bcoz she had no child anymore and if her only daughter also marry away, she will be alone in the harem without supporters. Remember, back then only Noble Consort Hui become the empress loyal supporters until the end. Consort Jia is basically support the empress bcoz she scared of Ruyi but then after the empress loses her favor and son, Consort Jia kinda left her behind. If Jingse still with her, Jingse can use her power as legitimate daughter to strengthen her mother position. If Yonglian or Yongcong still alive and take the crown prince seat and become Emperor's favourite sons, maybe the empress really marry off her only daughter to strengthen her son's power and her clan power.
Her daughter holds no power without being married into a powerful family.

Being the legitimate child does mean she has a higher standing compared to the other illegitimate children but she used to curtsy and greet Ruyi as "Mother Xian" when she was younger. One could argue that this is because Ruyi was married to her father before his coronation (alongside her mother and the late Noble Consort Huixian), so Ruyi has a higher standing compared to the other concubines. But I recall the empress herself telling the eldest prince that he needs to address all of the emperor's concubines as mother even if they are just attendants when he refused to address A'ruo as mother. Apparently she practised double standards when it came to her own children and spoilt them hence the princess became a brat. I believe the emperor's concubines either didn't dare to discipline her out of fear of her mother or like Ruyi, they just couldn't be bothered to.
