After watching your previous review of your stainless steel M40 mess kit, I decided to renovate mine. Used oven cleaner and a scotchbrite. Came up a treat but decided against painting it. Great video and advice.
@@InfoZhedExplore Sodium Hydroxide in the oven cleaner. It was leftover from a previous oven clean. Covered the mess kit and left for 30 minutes. Did this 3 times and it fully came off including the handle.
Who doesn't love the swedish army trangia? I'm always on the lookout for a stainless version, but not ready to pay >€60 for one. Hoping to pick one up in an obscure Swedish army surplus store this summer. I also wonder what type of paint they used. Pretty sure it's nasty stuff since there seems to be a correlation between good quality and environmentally unfriendly.. The original paint sure held up. Thanks for the video!!
maybe a magnet, the telescopic kind would work on the totonka i use one for my standard trangia will buy one and try on my m40 kit nice video very well explained
Thank you for taking the time to explain the process you have gone through with this fantastic little stove. This had been a big help. Hopefully mine will turn out as nicely as yours has. All the best, Rob.
@@InfoZhedExplore just washed it all off and it looks brilliant. Left the paint stripper on for most of the afternoon and have managed to get all of the paint off….now I see your quandary over painting it, looks rather nice as it is!
Really useful presentation and also watched your other one in which you restored your M40. The cost of an aluminium or steel M40 (in good condition) seems a bit expensive for me. Therefore, I opted for cheaper hybrid option of an aluminium M40 cooker and Hungarian mess tin. After making a modification to the M40, the Hungarian mess tin now sits very snuggly into the cooker. However, it will never be a proper M40 and I want one. What would you say is a fair price on eBay for grade B or C (that can be fixed / sanded / painted etc) M40 in aluminium or steel? Cheers
Hi, I agree the Hungarian option with windshield mods are not the same as the real deal. Personally and I say personally as everyone has their own opinions on the subject in your position I would hold out for the Stainless Steel M40 pot and keep looking around on eBay, militaria shows, Gumtree, car boot sales, etc. Also keep an eye out on line at Army Surplus sites as they get them in from time to time. They are quite rare now. As for price please don’t get ripped off by unscrupulous sellers on eBay charging a fortune and a premium for p&p. Think I payed around £45 for mine for the complete kit and was happy with that from Military Mart. If you can get your hands on the Stainless Steel pot with lid in good condition, by that I mean no dents and nothing falling off for around £30 quid and are prepared to clean it up then there’s loads of windshields and alcohol stoves out there. Not sure that’s been of much help but good luck with your search. I am really pleased with how mine turned out. Don’t use it that often but it’s really nice to own a small piece of history that is really fun to play around with 👍
A trangia pan handle is a useful piece of kit for removing hot wind shields

Awesome job. Glad it was some use to you. I would never have thought to use oven cleaner 👍

I think the original paint was pretty much bomb proof lol. Hope you manage to get one at a reasonable price. Really good fun bit of kit 👍

Thanks for the idea, never thought of that. Sounds like a great solution 👍

A dark paint under the pot for heat absorbsion is enough.
