    So many great points. I like the stick in the handle that’s genius, Is the burner specific to this cook set or just a large generic burner ? You showed the handle inside, is this a modification you’ve made ?
    I’m looking a very similar set, I’ll message you for your thoughts.

    • @JJ_OUTDOORS
      @JJ_OUTDOORS  3 года назад

      The burner it comes with is a bit larger volume my friend but a standard trangia burner will work just as well..the stick handle adapter/rings are great helping to keep your hands safe ...seen the set you sent me..looks decent enough my friend atb jj

    Excellent video mate. FYI there is a little rim around the jet hole on the burner. This is designed to have a little meths in. This makes it easier to light with a ferro rod. Also speeds up the blooming of the burner.

    I bought one solely as a third alternative fuel source for those long outages that occur after hurricanes. Gas and kerosene are expensive as well possibly unavailable. They can be extremely abused. In my case I had to bang away and make the pot and lid fit again so as not to need a block and tackle to pull them apart and fix the skillet handle so it wouldn't twist thru the stop and be a skillet handle once more. Easy to have bought something else but I have an addiction for old junk also. If you don't have some skills and a shop with tools you might fare better staying away from it unless it's a brand-new unused article.

    • @JJ_OUTDOORS
      @JJ_OUTDOORS  3 месяца назад

      Exactly my friend its a big ol lump of metal that although can be fiddly to prize apart but if you fettle about with it it will stand upto loads of abuse

    I have had the stainless one for I think about 15 years, I got it when they were around $25 for five of them. I found the aluminum version about five years ago at a local thrift store for just a few bucks. I really like them for convenience and sheer bombproof-ness. I always keep plastic freezer bags with them, that way I can put water in the big pot, open a tin of something into a freezer bag and put that into the water so they both heat up together. Hot food and water for coffee ready at the same time and both heated with the same shot of alcohol, and if you eat from the freezer bag - no washing up afterwards! I stripped the paint off the stainless verso when I first got it and polished it so it was shiny, but after using it I soon painted the outside of the pots with high temperature BBQ paint. Live and learn.

    I like this video a lot. Finding an M-40 made from steel and with the original fuel bottle and Svea issue stove is very difficult these days. I have had this kit for 40 years and use an aluminum can stove which works better than the Svea and use a plastic bottle /formerly a vodka bottle for fuel. Keeping the fuel bottle under my parka in cold weather makes the fuel vaporize and combust far easier in cold weather.
    Thank you for sharing an Excellent video. All the best from New Mexico US.

It has been absolutely brilliant, not used it in a while but used it a lot for day hikes where I don't need to carry much else. I can see why people would want to pay 50 quid. I’ve heard the aluminium versions if used on open fires, it can make the metal soft and misshape it?

    Nice video JJ👍

    • @Mat-kr1nf
      @Mat-kr1nf 3 года назад +2

      The aluminium pots are fine over a fire. The wind shield isn’t though. Some people use the wind shield to make a little fire in, or put the whole thing in a fire- it is this wind shield that goes soft and mis-shapen. It also goes a copper colour, the pots are fine in a fire though, only thing is, don’t put them in embers or over fire with nothing in, they could melt if they get hot enough, you need liquid or food to act as a heat sink. They are excellent cooksets though, I’m lucky enough to acquire 2 stainless ones and 2 aluminium, one of each type have never been used- never will be, I’m keeping them for posterity, I love the surplus mess kits, I aim to get every type available, eventually!😁
