    This was one of the greatest xmas gifts I ever received in my childhood, and one of the greatest Sci Fi toys of a generation. I remember looking at the Wishbook page endlessly, and waiting for xmas morning for it, assembling all the amazing accessories, all the way to playing with it (and crashing it often!) in my back yard the following summers as its accessories and attachments slowly went AWOL. I even remember seeing it's battered, empty, doorless, thrusterless shell perched on our curbside garbage cans after my parents finally decided it had lived a full three or four years of life and needed to be retired. I also remember how disappointingly rudimentary and uncooperative the action figures were... I think the sheer space involved in the thing is the only reason I haven't reacquired one. Great video!

      I'll be honest, this is my 3rd Adult Eagle, space was one of the things that saw 1 and 2 go away, this one only sticks because it has dedicated space.

      My maternal grandmother got me one for Christmas. I don't remember the year, but I still remember opening it at her house on Christmas Even. The pure joy of having something I had wanted so badly for so long still moves me to tears today. It was such a great toy. In short, I know exactly what you're talking about. I got mine because my mom’s boyfriend at the time has a poker game and all the dudes playing thought it was funny to give me some money to play and let me win a bit. When I realized how much money I had I said I’m buying space 1999 and quit. Like Kenny Rogers used to say, know when to walk away. The next day he drove me to the store and I bought it. I was 6. A year later my Star Wars figures flew it. Big nostalgia feels right now.

    I have a funny story about this toy. At around the time this had been released, or shortly after, I was living in Spain but had watched the series in the UK and even had a couple of Dinky Toys Eagles. One day I was invited to the birthday party of a fellow student from school, an American kid. During my stay at his parents house, I happened to wander around and passed by his bedroom. In a corner lay this Eagle. To my eyes, it seemed huge even humongous. I barely believed what I had just seen. I wasn't a close friend of this kid so I thought better than to start messing around in his room. I also never asked about it, but never forgot it. They clearly must have bought it in the US and brought it back with them to Spain. The sight of such a thing had been etched in my mind for most of my childhood. Now 46 years later, I see it again and now know it was produced by Mattel. I would have given anything to have it back then, but I'm glad it's no longer a faint memory in my ageing mind.

I remember playing on the moon forever with Greg out there in his huge backyard with our Moonbase. Those were the days! I had my Eagle until I moved to Minnesota 12 years ago. The Eagle transporter was AMAZING! Both me and my best friend Dave had one, and we would 'fly' our ships to the beach for SO many adventures! It still ranks up there as one of my absolute favorite childhood ships. The figures didn't really work in our play- but 3 3/4" figures could fit for play...definitely not for display or looks, but they could be put inside and more than a few fit in the cockpit.

    Like many others here, this was one of my favorite toys as a kid. IMHO the Eagle was and still is the coolest spaceship design in sci-fi. The USS Enterprise comes in at a close second but the Eagle looks so functional. Love it.

    One of the best toys I ever got for Christmas! The doors were prone to breaking off cause the hinges were poorly designed, and one of the winch prongs would invariably break, but it was a great toy nonetheless. My friend got one as well, and he tied a thick yellow shoe lace to the "space crane" to make it easier to play with - it was a great idea, it worked very well! Though it's long gone and I own several of the amazingly detailed Product Enterprise die-cast Eagles (two of which are on display in the very room where I'm sitting), I will always fondly remember this really cool toy from my childhood . . . . I think I may still have at least one of the stun guns to this day . . . I just checked, and yes I do have one left!

    Great review as always! Yes, I received this for Christmas that year and it was awesome. I did have issues with the limited articulation of the figures and the fact that only one set of the legs was molded to sit. Kids could remove the torsos and swap them with other legs (2 standing, 1 sitting). And yes, the guns were quickly lost along with the ill-fitting helmets. The white chest packs seemed to stay attached for the most part. I loved the “shuttle” option too. I did find that I lost the smaller engine nozzles over time, but the main nozzles and landing gear stuck in their slots pretty well. I only removed them when the Eagle crashed (which was often in my little scenarios). My Eagle was quickly hijacked by my Star Wars figures in 1978. Not having a Millennium Falcon meant that Han and Chewie “stole” this ship and it flew alongside Luke’s X-Wing. But time took its toll on this toy. The sad story was that my mom tossed my broken Eagle out in the early 80’s. This included some Star Wars passengers who were “resting” in the four pods of the ship (which doubled as personal quarters). Lots of great memories though and I’d buy one again for my son, should it ever get a re-release.

    My best friend had this, it was a hand-me-down from his older brother. He and I had a good time using our Star Wars figures as pilots. The one thing I really liked was how you could pull the cockpit and engine venturi off and combine them.
    Imagine the thrust to weight ratio you'd get from that!

    My best friend had one of these ONLY because he wanted a Millenium Falcon for Christmas ‘79 and they were nowhere to be found, but Dollar General had a bunch of these for about $10. Still has it and it’s the only one I’ve ever seen in person.

    I got this for Christmas aa a kid and it was my best Christmas ever!! I used this toy a lot and it showed as time went on. I eventually used it with my Star Wars figures as I never got the Millennium Falcon. I wish I'd kept it,... but I say that for a lot of the toys I had back in the day.

    This toy made my 1976 Christmas the best Christmas I ever had. I didn’t get rid of this toy until the mid-80s even with it falling apart and broken. I actually used it with my Star Wars figures laying upside down. I’m a big Eagle fan.
    To this day I still collect models of the ship. I doubt I’ll ever see his toy as it was brand new again although I would buy it even if it was a pre-production

    This was an amazing toy. And looking back it was easily the fore runner of all the wonderful Star Wars and GI Joe vehicles. Although to be honest even back then we knew the included figures were lacking. The Adventure People figs actually worked well. Especially the Astronauts. Also that die cast astronaut and robot from the Metal Men line.

    Late to the party... yes, I received this for Christmas in 1976. I pestered my parents for weeks and luckily wasn't disappointed. I think this was the last gift I ever really wanted... like I couldn't wait to get it. It is a touchstone to my youth and this video brought back many great memories. One detail that I remember about my own version was the computer display decals did not adhere to the interior columns and the video showed that same lack of adhesion - the sides would not stick. It bothered me back then... wish I had the skills and the modern spray adhesives to remount that decal for good! Glad to learn that problem looks to be part of the added "play value".... LOL!

    Yep. I’ve been drooling over the ones on eBay lately. I had one of these back then and it was my favorite possession for a time. It was so huge that I was in total awe of it, sometimes putting it in the garden as if landing on a strange planet and loved looking at it from different angles with its whiteness amongst the green foliage. It definitely sparked my imagination.
    Thanks for the trip back to my childhood.
    It was an enjoyable video.

    I had one of these. I loved playing with that thing. I was a big fan of the show, although in my area, they never aired season 1, which made for an odd situation where literally every item of merchandise I ever saw for the show featured imagery and characters from the first season. This eagle was no exception. But what I saw on my TV screen as a kid was a little different: no Victor, but lots of Tony and Maya, and you never saw the color coded left sleeves in season 2 because everyone was wearing jackets all the time. What a nice trip down memory lane this video was.

    My brother and I got one each for Christmas.
    The action figures' legs detached from the torso to be switched from one figure to figure.
    The crane came with a measly 3 inch black string which we replaced with a much longer string.
    The space ship was indeed VERY durable. No matter how many times we crashed them (threw them down), they hardly sustained any severe damage. The cockpit popped off, but was easily snapped back into place. But the hinges on the passenger cabin doors did break off quite easily.
    All in all, excellent toy. Brings back old memories.

    Mine is still in the attic, although the stun guns and rifle are long gone. I might have one of the figures somewhere, but even if I do, it would be broken in two. The figures were made so that you could pull them apart at the waist to give any of the figures the sitting pose, however the snap was quite flimsy and usually ended up breaking if the figures were dropped any distance. If I remember correctly, I put a small magnet on the end of the string for the crane, then I used to bridge the Eagle between the couch and the coffee table and use the crane to pick up small metal objects.
    On that advertisement at 2:07, I had the Enterprise CSF (it sucked!), Flying Aces carrier, Earthquake Tower, Richochet Racer (Spider-Man and Captain America), Star Trek walkie talkies (still have them somewhere, but one of them stopped working), Cox helicopter and the Kenner building set toward the lower right. I loved that set actually, and even had their companion bridge building set. I also had the Six Million Dollar Man figure (and his rocket) and the Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle.

    Wow. I haven't seen this toy, since I was five years old, back in 1977, and a friend of mine got it for his birthday. I had never seen anything like it. It was a well put together toy, if I remember correctly. Not exactly to scale..but then if it were, it would be pretty massive. Thanks for bringing back that old memory for me.

    I remember getting one of these for Christmas and being thrilled. I played with it a lot and it held up really well. Space 1999 was a really good show and the Eagles were fantastic crafts, probably because the concept and the craft was realistic. You could imagine something like this actually existing and bring used. This video brought back some great memories. 🙂

    Thanks for another super video. I didn't have an Eagle 1 ship, but I did have the play set for the 9 inch action figures. Only the table survived. Four decades later I found another one on Ebay, complete in the original box, and yes, it's a very nice play set. I put the Mattel and Palitoy figures in it, and they look great, especially sitting at the console.
    I also have the three small figures from the Eagle 1, and their bottom halves are interchangeable, so you can make them sit or stand anytime you like.

    When the first Star Wars figures were released and there was no Millennium Falcon for a year, this became the stand in. Han Solo fit perfectly in the cockpit (although Chewie had to sit in the back as he was way too big) and, for a time, I called it the Millennium Eagle. Great memories. I still have my Eagle (although the stun guns are nowhere to be found) and love it as much today as I did then. Ah, to go back in time with a few hundred dollars and buy a whole fleet of these amazing ships.

    • @allthingsnerd.4484
      @allthingsnerd.4484 4 года назад

      interestingly, the first design for the Millennium Falcon was VERY Eagle-like. Basically, take the cockpit for the Falcon and use it on the Rebel Blockade Runner instead of the sideways-barrel bridge that it had. So, in essence, you had an Eagle with a different cockpit. The similarity to Space:1999's iconic ship caused Lucas to redesign the Falcon and the original Falcon design became the Blockade Runner. Also; i did the EXACT same thing you did as a kid. Also; even after the Falcon toy was released, the Eagle was still in regular service with my Rebel forces for years.

    • @ChapMeifan
      @ChapMeifan 4 года назад

      @@allthingsnerd.4484 That's true. I remember reading that the Blockade Runner was the original Falcon design. My Rebel Alliance used the Eagle as a transport for a long time after the Falcon ship was finally released. The only characters who could fit in the Eagle's cockpit were Micronaut Time Travellers and even then their feet got stuck in the Eagle's weird cockpit design. Great memories and even better to know i wasn't the only one who did this. Cheers!!!
