Great timing. I literally just marathoned the 2 seasons of "Space 1999!" I love your hanger. Great job. I'm about to build my MPC Space 1999 Stun Gun and Com Lock model kit.
@@InterstellarModeler No problem. I'm loving the kit...but I have the sneaking suspicion they're not quite as large as the series props were...kind of like how the Phaser/Tricorder/Communicator kit props were smaller than the Star Trek props.
Amazing build. The detail was outstanding with the extra parts around the eagles. You guys are so lucky to have a friend like Mark that is so talented as well. Thanks for sharing.
Really nice to see this all come together! I think the overhead track system is genius!! I am going to have to print up one of these for myself once I get my 3D printer running again! Thank you for the shout outs and allowing me to collaborate on this project my friend.
@@InterstellarModeler I’m currently 3D printing Wolverine right now and I tell you 3D printing has taken modeling to the next level. Maybe one day you’ll do a 1/100 Gundam model kit on your show. Happy 4th of July and keep them rolling.
Thanks Kenny. Yeah Marc has really gotten good at this stuff. He needs to start a Patreon channel. And you're quite welcome. Looking forward to using it.
Another great build Oggie! I have a baggie of Eagles from the 70-80's and now you've inspired me to revisit them. Even though the Moonbases never made the moves, I just couldn't part with those Eagles. BTW when it comes to display cases I've been using the sports display cases from Michaels. They make them for mini football helmets (smallest 5" x 7" x 5"), football, basketball, full size football helmet (largest 11.5" x 15.6" x 11.6"). I always look for the sale prices and it's not unusual to get them for 50%. Looking forward to the next project! Cheers
Have a little bit of trivia here... but I’ve been a big fan of space 1999 ever since UFO. But mostly the books. My copy of The making of space 1999... A little tidbit I found out about the special effects... That all the eagles in the hangar bay were not the actual models! They were photo representations of the actual models and cut out cardboard’s. Because they didn’t have those many models in their stock during the filming of the series. It was quick and cheap! 😂 and especially when they blew up an Eagle on the landing pad... those were cardboard cut outs as well! Interesting on special-effects trickery!!!😂
Awesome build. What was never shown in the show space 1999 how the eagles reach the lift to the launchpad. I have no clue or idea how this could be realised. There are no reference photos or stills from the show. I love the hangar. I wished it was shown more often in the show. Keep, up the good work.
If I remember correctly they talk about getting certain eagles to the lifts. So I always thought when you see an eagle being moved with a cradle t's being moved to a lift to take it to the surface. Not sure if there was just one hanger or one for each launch pad but I think one for each pad makes more sense but who knows it was probably what ever the script needed.
There's one episode where you see a damaged eagle brought down to this level however the elevator changed from the cross shaped to a single rectangular pad. Not sure they really ever thought the whole process through. Sure made for great TV though. Thanks for watching
Hello, I loved Space 1999 when it came out here in the US I was 12. I loved the model work they did for the budget and time restraints they had. I always thought it was so well done. Even today I love to watch the Bluray releases of them. Great work on this little diorama. I like that you added a system of tracks to move the Eagles around.
Another great idea and project completed. Hopefully somewhere out there is a 3D model of suitably reduced detail eagle that could be used in this. I was thinking it would have been cool to add more eagle variants to the diorama. Lab and booster equipped versions come to mind. Thanks for the video.
Excellent job as always, Oggie. I'm trying to remember the episode(s) where the hangar appears. I always wondered how they got the Eagles on to the launch pads. I'm looking forward to the Round 2 models coming soon; commlock and stun gun!
Thanks Paul. There’s a number of episodes the hangar appears in. The shots were very brief which is probably why they dont stand out. Check out this site for lots of details about the hangar. It even lists the episodes but there are also some great shots of the beautiful miniatures. Thanks for watching. catacombs.space1999.net/main/cguide/umhangar.html
I have an ancient pin vice with 4 different sized chucks. It can hold a bit up to and past 1/8 inch diameter. That pin vice might have been the trick for a ssslllooowww cut of the peg holes. . No idea if one would be available any more.
Amazing stuff Oggie!! Love how it turned out! Perhaps in the future you might use one the failed castings as a damaged Eagle, maybe have it in the corner of the bay being repaired. ;)
@@InterstellarModeler I had always found it fascinating how they could destroy an Eagle in nearly every episode but still have plenty left over....I imagined they had a first rate repair repair facility. ;)
Nicely done sir, Casting resin is much easier on bigger pieces. Although you still have the air bubble problem to deal with. People who cast all the time typically have a vacuum chamber. But who’s got room for that. Lol
Appreciate the comments, thanks. Yeah casting is something I always wanted to try and can certainly see what those who seriously get into it prefer pressure casting. Thanks for watching
Thanks so much. Possibly will be making it out but just depends. I have other work related travel on the dock too. But it would be fun to make it out again.
Bummer on all your casting. If you ever decide to try again try Reynolds Advanced Materials. They have products that set up much slower resulting in far less bubles in your molds and cast. Hanger looks Great!!!
If you ever need the Eagles remolded let me know .I can make you a 2 part mold and Pressure cast them eliminating the bubbles . I live in San Diego but work up in LA as a Special Effects Artist.
The Gerry Anderson site is now selling some beautiful Eagle transporter kits expensive but highly detailed.

A handy alternative to decals for long stripes is scale model pinstriping tape used by car modelers (also used for fingernail decorating). Fyi
