    Dr McDougall and Dr Greger saved my life - literally. I was so brainwashed with the low carb/paleo communities I didn't even COME ACROSS YOUR INFORMATION. Healthcare providers even told me that this was the way to eat. I was too busy in my life to dig further into things. It wasn't until I got so sick by a keto diet that - when searching for information - I learned about the two of you - and immediately bought your books. I never looked back. I live in Switzerland, and finally, there was an in-depth article in "Natur & Heilen" (Nature & Healing) in May 2019 about Dr Greger. Thanks so much for all the work you do!

      Yeah but I think he meant it conceptually, he's saying 'we're old guys in the sense that we've been doctors a long time, been around the block, seen a lot of sh!£ and lived to tell the tale.' I don't think he was out of line with his comment there

    • @dannac_8888
      @dannac_8888 5 лет назад

      Dan Brown I hear you, truly I do Dan. But when a person's delivery of comments or questions can be without such a clear intention as to the implication, it suggests that indeed there's a subconscious inferiority/superiority agenda coming from McDougal that can be heard. When it gets in the way of such a simple dialog, what's going on inside his thoughts.
      McDougal is working through some things... it's fine, but how does the phrase go? "Me thinks he doth 'telegraph' too much."

    Would have been great to follow up arsenic/rice question with this from Dr. McDougall,
    "Rice may have higher concentrations of arsenic than other starchy grains, legumes, and root vegetables because rice plants use large quantities of water, grown in flooded fields, and rice efficiently pulls arsenic out of the water and soil.
    However, all foods contain arsenic. Consumer Reports magazine noted “rice contributes 17 percent of dietary exposure to inorganic arsenic, which would put it in third place, behind fruits and fruit juices at 18 percent, and vegetables at 24 percent.” Still, rice has become the “must avoid” food.

      You realize that was the first question he led with? Who does that? It just created a bit of innocent damning for what reason, who knows...
      (NOTE: When Michael gets thrown off he stammers with "umms".)
      Between the backhanded comments and cutting off of Michael more than once was just poor conversational etiquette.
      Did Michael hijack the conversation a couple of times with his own bloated answers, yes (sure he got a dopamine hit or two when he did that), but McDougal touting about his lifetime achievement award and the side bit about Michael eventually getting one was just typical old school "ego swinging" tactics that I've witnessed with insecure men in the medical and finance world for decades. If he meant it innocently - still it makes for mixed agendas.
      If you'd like to see a GREAT example of 2 doctors BUILDING upon each other's work, watch Dr. Mercola interview Michael here and you'll see how OBVIOUS it is that Mercola loves and respects Michael and how Mercola is much more positive/ uplifting to the ENTIRE interview. HE knows the art of conversation!

  • @jeffreywp
    @jeffreywp 5 лет назад +7

    What is it with people commenting on McDougall and Greger's appearance. Come on people. McDougall is older. Perhaps his genes aren't as good as another person's genes. Same with Greger. In fact, Dr. Greger lost his hair very young. So what that neither of them lift weights. Greger is always walking. McDougall used to windsurf. Now I believe he goes to a gym near him. Why is it NOT ok for people to age differently? Because someone has a different skin tone or body type that all of a sudden means they're sickly? I get it ... McDougall hadn't been looking well a year or so ago, but I had just found out that he lost his house. That's quite a bit of stress to process.

    • @Dan-ji5rx
      @Dan-ji5rx 5 лет назад +2

      probably because they proclaim theyre life-long adopted diet is the key to longevity and they are clearly showing signs of increased aging relative to their actual age, sarcopenia and mcdougals mental state is questionable. I thank them for showing me what a life of veganism will produce.

    • @jeffreywp
      @jeffreywp 5 лет назад +1

      @@Dan-ji5rx You miss my point entirely. For one thing McDougall didn't become vegan until he was done medical school and in his practice for several years. Like MOST people who adopt the lifestyle ... that's could be a very likely reason why vegans also die of heart disease at similar rates like the general population. Though better nutritional research needs to be conducted. For Greger, his baldness is genetic. With regards to McDougall's mental state he was perfectly fine in this video. So that whole issue is highly speculative. He's always been rather abrasive in interviews. At least many of those that i have seen where he is interacting with a host or a guest. I think there needs to be much stronger evidence of that. In the end, I think quite a bit of it comes down to the nasty reality that people who take strong stances against popular beliefs are often wished ill will.

    • @Dan-ji5rx
      @Dan-ji5rx 5 лет назад +1

      @@jeffreywp by that logic veganism is only beneficial if you adopt it from birth which renders it pointless for almost anyone to do it for health reason. all i know is this guy has been on the diet for decades and looks decades older while in a recent interview looked like he lost his mind. i agree we do need more studies before we make grand claims veganism promotes longevity. maybe it does in some people but clearly not everyone.

    • @jeffreywp
      @jeffreywp 5 лет назад +2

      @@Dan-ji5rx Well any diet begins its benefits (or damage) as soon as you start. But, point taken as I could have expressed myself better. In the final analysis, diet promotes longevity but can never promise it. Genetics, environment, sleep, relationships, etc. all contribute to the whole. Food is medicine, not magic.

    • @imaginarynumber8520
      @imaginarynumber8520 5 лет назад

      @@Dan-ji5rx, the studies have already been done and they support the grand claims although there is always some room for reasonable disagreement on the details. For example it's not clear that 100% vegan diet is better to a 95% plant based diet. But these are details. McDougall is suffering due to stroke he had long ago. Well it turns out I was eating greens from a garden with pesticides in the soil and it caused shortness of breath, anxiety, psychosis, tremors, arrhythmia, random pinching pains all over the body, memory problems, vision problems, stomach/intestinal cramps, and if all that wasn't enough, (excoriated) eczema. This was my dad, growing vegetables in the backyard for decades. My sister got MS and here we have a new study from Feb 2019 linking pesticides with the onset of MS. And I was blaming the eggs, thinking that people should eat a garbage bag full of greens every day even if they're not organic because I listen to Dr. Greger. Quitting eggs didn't do jack. If I was eating a garbage bag full of greens a day, I'd be dead by now. The oxalates are bad enough, the poison makes it even worse. God knows what else was in there causing problems. I ate greens from the local grocer and had similar stomach discomfort.
    And we're going to fearmonger about the arsenic in the rice or the acrylamide in the fattening potatoes? To those people I have three words: Go F yourselves.

      betzi b Dr. Greger has never had clinical experience. He never works with patients one on one, doesn’t get more disconnected than that. There’s a reason keto is on the rise, someone who isn’t working with patients on a daily basis wouldn’t know why

    • @betzib8021
      @betzib8021 5 лет назад

      @@ThyReverend I certainly respect your opinion, but many vegan docs do work with patients as well as keto docs..i dont think anyone knows the ratio. However, all docs who give many hours to work with patients do not have time to do enough research to keep up with all of the important things that the growing body of research can teach research can teach us. Therefore there is room for the docs who concentrate on research as well as for nutritionists who do the same. Both types of docs need each other. Being concentrated in one area alone is not enough. I cant afford to go to a vegan doc nor can i afford a keto doc. So i pay attention to all the research i can get my hands on. Since i teach full-time, i don't have time to find all the research. Thus, Dr Greger is very connected to my reality because he is a great source as well as pcrm.gov when i can get time to search there. I am not arguing for keto or vegan. I am saying I respect these doctors' thoughtful input toward my learning and i dont think their work should should be so summarily dismissed.

I'm saying this as someone who has been mostly plant based for the last few years, and has ended up emaciated like both these men.

    27:00 He's got it right 99.9999% of the time. Well in a recent video Greger put up on cannabis and cancer I actually took the time and effort into checking his work, and his video presentation had errors in it. And these weren't small errors these were major errors, the effect of which is leading the viewers into drawing the conclusion he was seemingly already aiming for. Despite pointing this out in the comments, no effort was made to address those errors. I get completely ignored and the misinformation gets to sit there for everyone to watch. I don't do much proofreading, if ever at all, and this one time I did, I caught errors being made. So God only knows what errors lurk in his other work I won't take the time to check on.

Not to mention those flights have environmental costs. I personally don't think giving a slide deck is worth all those costs, but that's my crazy opinion, given that in the tech industry we work remotely with people all over the world. Finally, I also don't think just delivering the message is enough. At some point become part of getting better outcomes. The 'say no to drugs' is a good example of millions going into messaging, to little avail.
