- Back at it again with another beautiful recipe from my new book Together. This time I'm giving you one of the dishes from the 'elegant simplicity' chapter. Its a really delicate but flavoursome pasta salad, in the book I serve it up with a flat fish but really its a dish that totally stands up on its own. Give it a go guys, elegant and delicious!

Everytime I watch a recipe from Jamie Oliver, I remember why he's always been one of my favorite chefs. The main ingredients are simple and fresh, there is the smell of the garden, the earth, a touch of the Mediteranean, a touch of England, the warmth and togetherness, the family feel, the "rustic" (actually sophisticated) cooking technique. Just "fry" orzo on a butter or olive oil (minute or so) - until golden brown, before you cook it in the water. Thats how we do it in Slovakia. Its just fantastic.

In iraq sometimes we cook it with rice to give the rice more flavour

I'm "very" organized while cooking. I remember cooking a Jamie Oliver 30 minute meal many times (same recipe)....each time it took at least 2 hours!!! Sent an email to Jamie's team...they said "I should be more organized" ....The time it takes to cook...is completely wrong...add 2 hours...but ALL IS WORTH IT!!! DELICIOUS!!!

Orzo pasta is my fave will definitely make it this way apart from sieving the tomatoes. I like them the way they came out the oven

Exactly - this recipe is a criminal waste of expensive fresh cherry tomatoes on the vine! I can't believe after roasting them to mush, he proceeded to push them through a sieve, then used only the pale pink liquid, binning the pulp and everything else. Crazy! And since the cost of living crisis, a kilo of tomatoes like those would cost at least a tenner!

Looks really good! Question: are you supposed to serve it hot or cold? And when you add the feta on top, is the pasta salad meant to still be warm?

If you're gluten free, use rice instead of the orzo. But keep the rice al denté, so it's individual grains, no sticky rice for this one! 💖🌞🌵😷
Parboiled rice doesn't get sticky and it's healthier so it might be a good shout.
Me thinks a small tin of anchovies baked with the tomatoes would be great too: or not?

Hi Jamie , I really love all your books. Recipes amazing. You give plenty of variety. Good recipe. What is harissa please? From what plant I mean. What cooking oil is best to flavour food. As a ado or other. Thank you so very much. Kindest regards.
Harissa paste is a mix of spices. You can buy it in the spice section of the supermarket. Also, I think Jamie cooks with Olive oil (doesn't need to be extra virgin for cooking, just for when it is not cooked).
Harissa is actually a paste made with hot peppers, very common in the North of Africa. A good substitute is hot chilli flakes.

Jamie throws them in the bin! This recipe is a criminal waste of good tomatoes. A kilo of top quality cherry tomatoes on the vine (costing at least a tenner), and he roasted them to mush, pushed them through a sieve and wound up with a pale pink liquid he threw his pasta into - binning the tomato skins, pulp and everything else. Ridiculous!

Harissa is Arabic word means pepper mush🌶️ that is cooked with spices and garlic . It's used alot in my country to add spices to the food🔥🔥
Do you know how I could substitute with spices? I'm pretty sure harissa isn't available where I live and if it is it would be really expensive from a specialty store.
In italy this orzo pasta is called Risoni. While orzo is barley for us. 😅😅

What do you do with the leftover tomatoes? Seems a waste to throw them away...
This recipe is the craziest waste of expensive tomatoes on the vine I've ever seen! He took a whole kilo of beautiful, top quality tomatoes, and turned them into a pink, watery liquid to throw over pasta. Madness!
