  • In 1937 the Empire of Japan invades a split up China. The emperor and his generals believes in an easy victory howeever the Chinese puts up a desperate struggle. As both sides engage ever more, the world around them explodes into the Second World War as Germany attacks Poland. Eventually, the war will last some 30 years, bringing both sides to the brink of destruction.

Imagine the utter wasteland that is east asia after this, cities are destroyed thanks to air bombings and troop fightings, towns are completely depopulated, infrastructure burned to the ground causing mass starvation to all involved, warcrimes a plenty causing the participants to fight even harder, revolt against the allies and co prosperity sphere. I cant imagine a world in which china and japan can recover from this in less then 50 years, maybe even more to get back to pre war levels. And that dosent rule out the potential for another conflict to start again with the axis and allies.

Ah yes, the Sino-Japanese War. I never knew that it actually went on for 30 years. I guess I have been reading the wrong history books. Anyhow, I'm glad that Paradox is accurately representing how World War 2 went and how it was fought. Who could have known that it was actually Luxembourg that brought the German war machine to a grinding halt in 1945? Who knew that the elite Fallschirmjager divisions capitulated France within a day in 1940? Who also knew that Bhutan dominated over the British Empire after decolonisation? Thanks to Paradox we have a great understanding on what World War Two was truly like. If only my great grandfather could have been alive to tell me stories of how his division of the El Salvadorian Army conquered Tokyo in 1962.

For us observers, we only see changing frontlines, different colours replace different colours. I can't help but wonder, if that was all real, how many lives are lost in such wars? no matter who won, the cost of human lives greatly overshadows the glorious victories. The sound of thousands of troops and tanks marching after their victory by either side cannot be compared to the sorrows and crying of millions of fathers, mothers and lovers when their loved ones return in a coffin .
Just from the chinese pocket from1:47 to 3:39 at the eastern coast of china, countless heroic stories can be told from their couragous last stand against the japanese

The population of Belgium was 8.4 million in 1936, assuming 50% of the population is male that's 4.2 million men. During the war the birth rate was about 100,000 births per year (about half of these would have been 16 by the end of the war in the video) So that's 400,000 (men) on top of the 4.2 million men making 4.6 million, there or thereabouts. The casualties for Belgium are 2.9 million so more than 7 out of every 10 Belgian men alive at the start of the war or born during it was a combat casualty of the war.

I have returned to this video to make another comment.
I like that China turned democratic and basically united throughout this whole war.
In the beginning, I thought Japan was going to win, but then China had a come back. Normally this would not have happened, but I think the cause is La Resistance.
What did La Resistance add that allowed China to survive the Japanese?
