      Every Bar let it be a bartender bar or a barista bar is a stage.... you are the actor, and the showman/woman, you have to entertrain and work with the perfecrtly balanced flow, so the costumer will enjoy seeing oyu work, cuz it makes them fell good, that there is someone who does a hard job really fast, precize and even have human contact, small talk, laughs, maybe help with direcitons, recommendation etc.. thats why i love it! Thats also why i left it :D sometimes had top work without any lunch break and after the 3rd day without proper food during the day i said fck this :D

      I realized one day that I did that and I tried to stop. But to be honest..in a large iced drink...a lot of them forget it's three shots. So that's the reason I stare at them when I do.

    • @brelleine
      @brelleine 3 года назад +28

      maybe consider that a barista is the only person one is allowed to watch, so if one has anxiety about open spaces or a new coffee shop or interacting with anyone, doing the thing you're supposed to do, like staring at your order is the better option.

    • @jcasetnl
      @jcasetnl 3 года назад +33

      It's because to the average person there's something "magical" about specialty coffee making. If you look at most starbucks, the machines are faced away from the customers. It's partly to cover up that they're super-automatics and it's just basically button-pushing. However, it's also to discourage the customer from staring, asking questions, demanding corrections or chatting up the barista. All of that slows down the line and means less money for $bucks. In independent coffee shops with ultra nice machines, they want to show off the process, the machines and the craftsmanship, and the baristas are often encouraged to be friendly with customers.

      I'm a complete novice to this level of coffee consumption (never been a big fan of Starbucks and the like, and local Western-themed roasteries or cafes are only a recent highlight trend as of 2-3 years back at my place), so I usually look up at the menu once I'm up at the counter, and ask baristas on which coffee I can get that is sweet (no fan of no-sugar coffees). More often than not it's vanilla latte or some such stuff. I would love to explore other blends, but buyer's remorse got me back (again, not a fan of no-sugar coffee).

    Have you considered moving the cups so they are easier to reach? I think it's worth the effort to make frequent tasks easy. Consider a cup dispenser so you can get a cup with 1 hand and 0 attention. Also, can you get a clicky Sharpie? It's fancy but you don't need to take the extra motion to post or cap the pen. In high-end electronics assembly factories, we design the work flow so the operator can use both hands without needing to look at each thing. Anyway, it's enjoyable to watch you work. Somehow it's all very positive...

    Dude. I'm only 4 minutes in and I'm hooked. As a Starbucks barista who works at one of the busiest stores DT/mobile/cafe store in our district, I've learned to be fast. I'm trusted at this point (1 yr in) and I've been "happy" about the improvements I've made. But DANG. This- is is a different level. Measuring out each shot so precisely, steaming your milk perfectly every time, and staying so calm and quick as the rush comes.....if you put me in your situation, I'd fail, if you'd be in mine, you would be the best out of all of us. You truly know the science and art of pulling beautiful shots, and steaming your milk majestically. LOL.
    The biggest difference is probably the way we pull shots vs you, and the syrup options we have vs yours.
    As you probably know, ours is....automated. We press a button, or a few at most if they want ristretto, 1/2 caf, updosed, blonde, or decaf shots.
    We also get trained on milk techniques, but the most latte art we're trained on is a dot for the flat white....yeah. Other than that. we can decide to do latte art if we want, but apparently "nobody got time for that" since for our rush, aka we call it "peak", is expected to be 30 seconds with handheld orders (meaning there is someone outside to take orders as well as our speaker box) and around 45 seconds on an average day without handheld. It's sad, drive times suck out so much of the best things....like an opportunity for actual customer connection. Lol. GREAT job. Great video. Very sorry for the rant. Cheers from the U.S!

    As someone who works in a similar position (boba barista) i must say huge respect to you for being able to tackle so many different tasks all at once nonetheless alone! A lot of people undermine the skill and critical thinking process it takes to be able to do this kind of thing! *sending virtual hugs* ♥️

    At the start when she was rushing, before the guy left, it reminded me of how I used to be as a barista, anxious to get all the orders done as quickly as I could with the worry that someone else might come, or that a customer would complain. And then there are people like my coworker who told me "slow down, why are you trying to do everything so fast??" 🙄🙄

      to be fair, my store sees an average of 800 transactions a day, 3 workers a shift, and have to babysit customers that projectile vomit and spray poop all over our bathrooms all for minimum wage.
