I stopped playing chess more than 5 yrs . But when i scrolled down youtube videos and saw my fav player GM Morozevich it gives me excitement to play again
One of the most underrated player . I remember in PCA 1995 he at age 17 attacked anand on king side with his pawn and beat him convincingly when anand was on top 3 .
gambling has its ways even toss coins or a revolver this is thinking game picture of logic only talented thrive market one day pays everybody to play not the other way
9:29 Look at that smile! Awesome. That game was amazing, by which I mean I had no understanding of what was happening. Fun to watch a level of chess I will never play :)
Morozevich just like a song composer. He think hard and careful to set beautiful position (just like when song written, take long time). Then the final moment he show his opponent what he set and go for attack them really fast (just like when song finally played).
I'm not great at chess so I'm assuming I'm missing something, but at 6:25 why wouldn't white use the queen to take out the pawn guarding the king? Wouldn't that essentially check mate Magnus?
For anyone saying h6 or h5 and Magnus is saved. After either of those moves, Sasha can play Nxe7+, then Rxe7 (This is forced. If Magnus chooses to move the king, it will result in a mate in 2), Qxe7. This endgame will be lost for Magnus; those 2 passed pawn will fall, and the bishop won't be able to do anything.
Why at 7:11 Morozevich did not take the a7 pond with his Q? Why, same position, he did not check with the Kn, forcing black K to b8, and then taking his Q with the same Kn? Are these possible solution? Thank you :)
At @7:47, White plays Nxg6+, and the queen is no longer pinning Black's h-pawn. Isn't the knight en prise then? Why did Magnus play Kg7 instead of just hxg6?
Resigning was a blunder. h5 would lead to a longer game, preventing any immediate threats, and making time control the only real threat. Even if it was an armageddon or if he had to win for another reason, it is not clear that he would lose on time, since they both were totally and similarly low on time.
Well, at least the kid did not grab the pawn from Morozevich hand, slam the clock button with it, and then took the shirt off and put it on Carlsen's head.
@michael scott: I think this was the fastest response I have ever seen in a comment section. And I just imagined you sitting there with a chess clock that has the button wired to the Enter key on the keyboard :)
Idk why but at 6:30 Alex could've checkmated him by moving Queen to h7. The Rook protects Queen while the Queen goes for the kill. King can't move nor can attack the attacker including blocking the attacker.
Backpacker Studios Black is in very dangerous position here, threatening a very short mate. Black can take the rook, but then white simply moves his rook to match the rank. If black rook moves to take, pawn takes, and the position with the knight and the queen and bishop are still deadly. If he takes the knight, then he gets one rook and threatens another, along with the rook coming down the rank; it's not a position you want to be in. He can get out the way, but it's just not good. So here, he's trying to think and gain some time with some checks (since it's blitz with increment, and repeated movements don't require much thought or time) to get out of the position. You can't simply go for a material advantage with mate looming so near.
Magnus saw that if he moves his h pawn he will lose both rooks for nothing and his pass pawns will not promote. (Black: ....h5, knxR+ ; Kh7, Qg6+; Kh8 QxR+; Kh7, Qg6+...) Great grandmasters
7:03 couldn't have the other guy taken the pawn (which is infront of the king) with his castle and won? not very good at chess but I'm pretty sure that's a win move?
it's not really a checkmate after h6 by black but it's really hard to defend making a lot of white moves and getting the pawns that are advancing on the e and d file
cornelius durano But black can't even get those pawns that far. Knight takes rook, then rook has to take knight (this is forced), queen takes, then queen is eyeing right down at black passed pawn. Black can't defend it with that bishop even with a free tempo (say white does nothing but advances his pawns), as bishop is blocked by white pawns and king. Black cannot find any way of defending the passed pawn as at some point, the two pawns need to be on the same level and cannot defend each other all the way since they only move one piece at a time. The second pawn reaches D2 queen gobbles them up. Bishop can't defend even with two extra moves to get to the d file as the pawn would need to be blocking it to defend the other side. Black would need an extra turn to have a hope of winning. Carlsen was completely right to resign.
I'm not good at chess but WHAT would happen if black played pawn to h6 or h5 to make a square for his king then promoted his pawn and thus a queen and two rocks would be on the same line. What can the white do? PLEASE I want to learn.
Idk, I think the real hero was the light square bishop. The knight on C3 is was so useless that in the blitz game he determined that he could sack it for great complications and a long term initiative. But that bishop was influencing so much pressure against the king throughout the game. With it constantly threatening to sack itself and rip open the king.
Im not a GM but I would move my Pawn to H5 creating space for K & ask for a draw as K and Q would only just be dancing, once Kn and Rks are gone (i e. Kn takes Rook and Rook take Kn, Q takes Rook,) with take backs my last move would be to finally give support to my E2P with D4P to D3. Try this veriation Any comments please reply to me I would love to know what you think thanks
White's king would come over and snatch off the pawns if that were the case. The d-pawn cannot move because of Qxe2 and e1=Q does not work because of Qxe1; moreover, Black's bishop is useless on a8.
nh3 is mate ,have to move h2 pawn then nxr check have to lose other rook as well only move, rxn then the queen will take other rook and next can take pawn e7 before it is queen, the black king is just in time to stop pawn ,if bishop h1 try to help the two pawns he will lose by one move to get new queen. he had just a few seconds to work this out and new he had lost ......
What the problem with this time watch? Is it really a world professional chess game? Does it normal time randomly increase so many times like this on a world tournement?
Why didn't Carlsen move his Rook to the front of Morozevich's Queen, then making Morozevich run away with his Queen (for not to have his Queen killed by Magnus' King), then Magnus getting out of check moving his King to the right, then making his own pawn into Queen - one square from it? Magnus would win the match, no? He would have Queen + 2 rooks against Queen + 1 horse. I didn't understand his resignment. Seemed to me as a blunder or his big ego afraid of suffering a check-mate. Maybe it was a tournament where he didn't need the victory, whatever. I didn't understand. If someone can explain me, it would be cool.
¿Who wins?
Juan- San white
Carlsen loses. He has no escape, whatever he does, white is doing knight h6, check mate on one. Carlsen resigns before.
Juan- San
We are all winners!
+ Guz Man but, what if he moved the pawn in h7? like he moves it to h5. Then if the knight checks the king, he moves to where the pawn was.
7asano5 Nxe7 if the pawn on h7 is moved.
This has to be my favorite Blitz game ever. Morozevich is so elegant yet a deadly killer

:Could Morozevich not have moved queen to H7 @7:39?
I think he should have used Rg7 move at @8:42 but instead he moved the king which led him to a forced checkmate..
@7:44 why not pawn G6?
camera angles suck no close up of the board in the beginning. it got better though
Resigning was a blunder. h5 would lead to a longer game, preventing any immediate threats, and making time control the only real threat. h5 does not stop Nex7 (check) which wins on the spot. Black had no choice but resign.
At 8:13 he should not have played Cc5? d5 looks strange killing his bishop scope
the look on this face (smile) "he fucking just mated me" *brilliant*
The time when commentator said opa opa, seemed like he found the checkmate one
This morozevich is a legend , so strong
at 7:44 white check black with knight. why black didnt ate it with pawn?
Queen h4 and free rook on d8
Everybody in the video: holy shit he's genius
Me after watching the handshake: what is magical?
That left hand holding his head was a sign: Carlsen seemed tired and not very focused in the game.
The kid with the green shirt sure is annoying
that's why he lost xD
Didn't notice the kid because Morozevich's fiddling was driving me INSANE.
Well, at least the kid did not grab the pawn from Morozevich hand, slam the clock button with it, and then took the shirt off and put it on Carlsen's head.
Leeloo Minai kids still annoying

That knight manoeuvre came out of nowhere and with catastrophic effects. I was so sure Magnus had this.
Where is him today, 2021? Any news on what he's doing?

What an excellent position the knight lands in 👏👏👏
Idk why but at 6:30 Alex could've checkmated him by moving Queen to h7. The Rook protects Queen while the Queen goes for the kill. King can't move nor can attack the attacker including blocking the attacker.
Christian Peterson It was black turn to move. Check requires you to move.
6:22 black rook can take white rook, why didn't he play it? someone explain.

7:43 knight cannot be taken because of Qh4+ forking to king and rook at d8

What an amazing setup by Moro! Carlsen had no chance there.

No time for h5 as white is threatening the rook on e7 with knight and it's a check too. black is lost.
it is a check mate at 7:31? isn't it? if queen kills the pawn in front of king.
Rajesh Nayak it's black to move. That's why Carlsen was giving checks, to prevent white from moving freely.
Brutal mate, saludos
9:06 Alexander checks his hand telling that you are mate come one but carlsen did not listen to him so he got mate after 😊
6:25 , here I did not understand why Magnus did not kill rook with rook
Why morozevich doesnt play chess anymore?
Last move for black he could go pawn h6,thus let h7 square free for a king move after check! right?
Btw great battle and ty for uploading this!
So i checked the comment section and i see now,its funny i thought i really found Carlsen's mistake...
Morozevich is the most spooky, charismatic chess player on planet.
why not throwing dice ?
6:25. Why can't black take the Rook on f7?
In 6:22 Carlsen has better move
he can play RXf7 , then if Morozevich plays NXg6 , he can play Kg8
i hope iam not wrong ^^
but before that he may play Rc8 to protect it !
Why Nd7 a 4:19 ????
Will it be distracting for the player if an opponent keeps playing with a pawn simultaneously
6:22 what happens if black take the white rook?
perafelix white will play knight g6 and fork the king and queen black cannot take knight because the pawn is pinned
Ahh yes. As a God gamer. The knight is the most powerful on the chess board.

Not possible
He wasnt checkmated, he just resigned
These chess masters can see all the possible moves they can make and have only realized that they would lose in the following moves.

Wrong title!!!!! It was not a checkmate; Magnus resigned because he was going to be checkmated in 2 moves.
