Love how they're all scrambling at the end to get out of the rain - gives it an earthy feeling. Sarah is such a pro - never bothered her performance one bit.
Great tune, beautifully performed. I particularly love that octave mandolin. It really complements her voice. It has a deep but mysterious sound that fills out the lower range.
I'm always amazed that I can't tell if she's singing live or it's a studio recording when RUclips is playing in the background. I haven't listened to one artist so much since I discovered James Taylor (and that was a LONG time ago!).
Accuracy of following lyrics not guaranteed, but I tried :) in the middle of the night again still water and the birds don’t sing cool gin in the back room humming medicating for the trouble that’s coming walls rattle like a diesel freighter blood races like a wave this house wasn’t meant for strangers but you come knocking anyway i can hear you knocking on the door i won’t leave it open for you anymore i can hear you knocking on the door knocking on the door of the house of mercy don’t try and change my mind that knock gets louder all the time don’t try and wear me down you’ll never get inside this town underneath that shirt you’re wearing strained muscles and a heart of stone double-crossing like a wild chameleon you make me want to be alone i can hear you knocking on the door i won’t leave it open for you anymore i can hear you knocking on the door knocking on the door of the house of mercy don’t try and change my mind that knock gets louder all the time don’t try and wear me down you’ll never get inside this town i can hear you knocking on the door i won’t leave it open for you anymore i can hear you knocking on the door knocking on the door of the house of mercy
Guy Faulkes I know the difference. I play a 22.72” scale length instrument tuned to GDAE, and a 30” instrument tuned to CGDA. I just thought Sarah’s instrument sounded much lower in this video than, for instance, Eva Holbrook’s octave or Sierra Hull’s octave.
+lertyuis It's not a guitar. It's an octave mandolin. It's usual mandolin tuning of GDAE (from low string to high string) with the string pairs tuned unison, except an octave lower than with the "regular-size" mandolin.
I was wondering about the instrument too. It has more a guitar sound versus the twangy and thinner sound of a mandolin. Even the Octave Mandos I've heard still have a mando sound just lower. Whatever it is she makes it work beautifully.
Sarah Jarosz is so freaking good!
Such an underrated artist. So good!
This is my favorite kind of music - a simple arrangement that lets the complexity of the melody and lyrics to shine.
Sarah never ceases to amaze her audience with the complexity of her musical prowess.
Love how they're all scrambling at the end to get out of the rain - gives it an earthy feeling. Sarah is such a pro - never bothered her performance one bit.
One of the greatest talents of this century
And this is what I call music. Love Sarah Jarosz!
I love this woman. "I can hear you knocking on the door"
I can absolutely dig this. Excellent.
Everything, from the song, the guitar (or whatever), the artist and the environment... is just beautiful.
It is an Octave Mandolin
Scuse my language but i fucking love that song, earthy and gutsy.
Great tune, beautifully performed. I particularly love that octave mandolin. It really complements her voice. It has a deep but mysterious sound that fills out the lower range.
She's fantastic
Incredible! I love this Gal, I love her guitar!
Been proficient with mandolin since 9 yrs. old ; saw performance on CBS Saturday Morning. Love her and Debra Clark . Good luck at Grammy Awards ☝.
I love this song~✨
Sarah has the full kahuna! Great!
Just saw her in person. Really Good!!!
Troubador!! we were there, awesome show
"Tin soilders and Nixon's coming"
Lmao sorry this reminds me of Ohio by Neil Young a lot.
Awesome talent!
I'm always amazed that I can't tell if she's singing live or it's a studio recording when RUclips is playing in the background. I haven't listened to one artist so much since I discovered James Taylor (and that was a LONG time ago!).
Amazing!!!💖
Oh wow. You are a natural.
Very nice again!!
Sarah is one cool lady.
she's so much cooler than any of the Sarahs that I ever dated...

in the middle of the night again
still water and the birds don’t sing
cool gin in the back room humming
medicating for the trouble that’s coming
walls rattle like a diesel freighter
blood races like a wave
this house wasn’t meant for strangers
but you come knocking anyway
i can hear you knocking on the door
i won’t leave it open for you anymore
i can hear you knocking on the door
knocking on the door of the house of mercy
don’t try and change my mind
that knock gets louder all the time
don’t try and wear me down
you’ll never get inside this town
underneath that shirt you’re wearing
strained muscles and a heart of stone
double-crossing like a wild chameleon
you make me want to be alone
i can hear you knocking on the door
i won’t leave it open for you anymore
i can hear you knocking on the door
knocking on the door of the house of mercy
don’t try and change my mind
that knock gets louder all the time
don’t try and wear me down
you’ll never get inside this town
i can hear you knocking on the door
i won’t leave it open for you anymore
i can hear you knocking on the door
knocking on the door of the house of mercy
she is amazing but what instrument is she playing
octave mandolin fletcher brock seattle
What kind of guitar is that?
I know how to pronounce your name in America as YA - roesh, but how do you prefer to pronounce it?
A mandocello? Alt.
tuning?
Octave mandolin
what the H is doing the man with yellow t-shirt?? :)
I think this is the first time I've seen someone play a mandocello.
It's an octave mandolin, not mandocello. Similar but different.
Any idea what her guitar tuning is?

I see now. Thanks. Sounds like she might have it tuned down to D minor.
this is just ohio lol
Maximillion Archibald Why is it Ohio?
