Ann's vocals are a force of nature. She can whisper like a soft spring breeze, or she can howl like a hurricane. And she's always 100% in control of that magnificent instrument.
You have to do their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center. One of the best live performances ever. Her voice in her 60's is still one of the greatest female vocals of all time.
This is a classic 'power ballad' of the 80s. And "I want to know what love is" by Foreigner is another one. Power ballads were almost a genre in itself.
Evanescence's Amy Lee has said in several interviews Ann Wilson (Heart lead singer) was her inspiration growing up. "Barracuda", "Crazy on You", and "Magic Man" are three Heart classics that no doubt inspired female rockers. When Heart started they were the only hard rock band with women up front.
When he asked that question I literally started laughing. Not because I thought it was a stupid question, but because I knew that the answer 100% had to be yes
Bro.... Check out their KENNEDY CENTER cover of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN! They literally blow the socks off the three remaining members of Led Zeppelin to their face😂😂😂😂
Ann Wilson - singer. Nancy Wilson on guitar. They have a wide range of songs. Second Stairway to Heaven at Kennedy Center to honor Led Zeppelin. Great Reaction.
Also, another female rocker, with an unbelievable voice, is Pat Benatar. Start with Heartbreaker. You won't be disappointed. Have you listened to Fleetwood Mac, with Stevie Nicks? If not, dive in. Stevie is in rock n roll Hall of Fame twice. With Fleetwood Mac and Solo.
80s Heart is different than 70s Heart. Still amazing though! Anns voice is timelessly amazing! Nancys guitar playing is iconic! These ladies inspired lots of women in rock. They proved we can. Magic Man, Crazy on You, Dreamboat Annie, What About Love, Little Queen -the entire album! Just some suggestions.
THE best female rock vocals of all time, this woman has an amazing voice and she still sounds the same if not even richer and better. You should do their rendition of stairway to heaven performed for Led Zeppelin who specifically asked for her to sing it, and which made them cry, even Obama was crying at the induction concert.
Just remember that Alone (1987)came 10 years after Barracuda (1977). so of course they are going to have a little different sound. All great rock bands have ballads and this is one of the great ones! ❤
They have quite a few songs that are almost ballad like....Most bands of the 80s had to have at least 2 on an album! Lol Ladies of the 80s were the best!!! Roxette, Joan Jet, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Belinda Carlisle...Just to name a few!
Nancy (blond) was always so much fun to watch! She took a back seat to Anns voice, but she would literally "manhandle" that guitar and high kick throughout their shows. Nancy also, by the way sang lead on the bands very first #1 hit single, "These Dreams".
Ann Wilson is known as one of the best singers in rock and rightly so, but Nancy's singing gets outshined by her guitar playing and Ann's singing...that's her singing those high harmonies, after all.
Ann Wilson could sing it tremendously ! Heart was a very very powerful and super popular group with the sisters who formed a super talented duo as singers. Ann s sister Nancy also played guitar and always presented her self with high energy as well. They never ever really faded away. Their music has remained for the next generations to enjoy.
They are Perfection … real deal and they don’t need to be vulgar on stage and half naked that what you do when you lack talent … they play a bunch of instruments 🎸 and the vocals… amazing
OMG Black Pegasus, I am so dismayed, yet so excited to share, that many woman were also rock stars, and hopefully you continue with the feminine rockers 😊 Some initial suggestions: Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Suzy Quatro, Joan Jett, Alanis Morrisette, The Runaways, Chrissie Hynde, Melissa Etheridge, & Patti Smith, just off the top of my head LOL 🤣😂🤣 Enjoyed your reaction to Heart!!! Thanks!
React to “Magic Man” then “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You” - more total opposites from Heart and both fucking awesome! They are just such phenomenal artists! 💪♥️
The pipes of Ann Wilson are not just unmistakable, but she, at least in my world, is easily one of if NOT arguably the best, Rock & Roll female vocalist ever. She can send chills down anyone's spine with what she is capable of doing with her voice. Simply amazing. There is also mentioning from Mr. "Black-P" Houston here, of how the "Alone" Heart version vs. the "Barracuda" Heart version sound different. How come? It's because, well, they ARE different. Ever since the band lost two of the original founding members (before they were even named "Heart") brothers Roger Fisher and Mike Fisher, the killer electric BITE of what they sounded like in the 70's went right out the door with them. Especially Roger Fisher. His musicianship of heavy guitar riffs and clean hooks were now gone, and this dramatically changed Heart's sound as well as their direction forever. The musical writing was never the same without his in-your-face rock and roll "punch" contributions. They were no longer being successful and because of that they began doing songs written by others to survive and become relevant again. Including.... yes, "Alone." Folks, let this be a lesson to everyone to NEVER sleep with the same person you're working directly alongside with!! Never ends well, and both Roger Fisher and Nancy Wison as well as Mike Fisher and Ann Wilson can attest to that. I happen to prefer the 70's version of Heart much more than anything after that. Just my opinion. Have a good day, folks!!
I understand the point you are making, but just for the record Fleetwood Mac was able to stay together as a band and work together for several years after the relationship splits / divorces / affairs. They separated work from personal life. Some of their very best music came as a result of those relationship dramas. But I do admit, that is very rare.
Yes, you are 100% accurate with the flings going on in Fleetwood Mac too. My guess is either their breakups were more amicable/agree to or they weren't so far down the heavy duty drug hole that they're own demons didn't come out to take over. Man, I've been around that with some folks and that's scary stuff (many many years ago when I was young and dumb-- now I'm just old and stupid!!!) Then there are folks who (seemingly) have no problem- Pat Benatar and Niel Giraldo, Paul and Linda McCartney (although, considering how fast Paul moved on... who knows.), Johnny Cash and June Carter, etc. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your weekend, Sir!!@@keithbond9423
Music evolution happened to Heart. They weren’t going to keep that 70’s raw hard rock sound my friend, regardless of those 2 leaving the band. Theirs only a few bands that stayed raw, and survived, and Heart with a female lead singer, wasn’t going to, without the change. With 80’s music a keyboard/synthesizer was necessary. ZZ Top was a perfect example. The evolution of music continued to change into the 90’s, as it was goodbye keyboard & hairspray.
I politely disagree. No one sounded like them as they were both original sounding, head turning and had all the stage presence chops to boot. Seriously. No one sounded like them. No one. The disco wave did nothing to affect them and they chugged on right down the track like a banshee driving a distorted locomotive. They were a ridiculously great sounding band as well as unique. Bands like that don't just fade away because they play the same kind of music... they don't fade away BECAUSE of their music, and they already proved to be part of that staying-power class going into the 80's. I also believe that had the band remained intact, I don't feel there would be any question they would have been just as successful for the same reasons. No one else sounded like the one-of-a-kind Ann Wilson either, regardless of who is in the band, she was certainly in no jeopardy to losing her lead vocals role, fans or her crown. IMO one of the, if not the greatest rock and roll female voice ever. Did they change musically? Yes, but they didn't have a choice because they were no longer able to replicate what they had in the 70's and both tickets and turnstiles showed it. Again, without Roger Fisher's musical contributions as well as Mike Fisher's sound engineer contributions... fans/listeners, knuckleheads like me, we all heard the difference, and it was not as attractive or as pleasant to the rock and roll ear as what won us over in the first place. But that wasn't the only thing that hurt them. MTV was introduced and changing the landscape of not just music, but pop-culture, fashion, and inventive personalities entirely. THAT'S when they were forced into something else and had to seek others to write for them to become relevant again. I personally wouldn't consider that "evolving" but treading water and "surviving" by necessity instead. Ultimately? I believe the two things that saved Heart were, ironically, also MTV but their change in record labels too. At any rate, that's my take on it all. I appreciate and enjoyed the comment, so thanks for it! Enjoy the rest of your day, Nitro! @@nitro_001newman2
VH1's series Behind The Music has a great documentary about Heart, it was hard back in those days for women, Ann had gained a few pounds, so they put her in the background pushing her sister forward, that really hurt, but that was how crazy the business was back then. You can never take that incredible voice away from Ann, she is a rock queen!
I'm a couple of years older than you and the first Heart song I ever heard was Never. It's kind of a combination of the two you heard. 80s sound, but but more up-tempo and tough than Alone, at least to kid's ears. I think you'd like it.
Just a time of music that never can be replaced (( ya really can't explain it without being there and how I know THIS BECAUSE I WAS THERE ! ONLY WAY I CAN EXPLAIN IT IS JUST PURE ? SO SAD ITS GONE 😢
Basically every rock group has to have ballads (often 'love' ballads) to attract certain listeners. As people love to dance to music, all songs can't rock out from beginning to end.. some have to be slower so you can waltz (slow dance) with your significate other/boyfirend or girlfriend/ or a potential one. :)
Holy cow does this song bring back memories. Back in '87, and now listening to it again still, makes me think of one man. It was and remains unrequited love. But the memories it brings back - wow, just wow!
My wife is a big Heart fan and she informed me Heart is releasing some new music this year and she'd like it for either our anniversary, her birthday or Christmas. Just depends on when it's released. I asked her how do you know it will be good. Her reply: "Did you not hear I said it was Heart? Nuff said." Gotta love her.
Ann Wilson’s voice is crazy good! Whenever I see someone singing Heart on The Voice or American Idol, it’s like …oh no, good chance this is not going to go well!
I saw Heart in concert in Baltimore back in the early 2000's. Fantastic! Ann's has a powerhouse voice and Nancy is not too shabby on the guitar. Dog and Butterfly is my favorite song of theirs. It's definitely on the softer side of their music. They still tour and Ann's voice is still as powerful as ever. All I Wanna Do is Make Love To You is a good one to react to as well.
The absolute funniest comment I’ve ever heard on any reaction channel. Imagine that you’re a dude go to bed little early and you missed out on, you know, and then the sister comes in right down a horse very distracting. 😂😂😂
The Wilson sisters much preferred their music from the 70s over the 80s. Record label had them under thumb and kind of dictated the 80s popish stuff. They felt like they sold out on their principles, to an extent. But, their 80s music was still insanely popular. There are many songs to hear, but two more, would be Crazy on you (live 1977). Magic Man. 🙂
I resented that they treated Ann so disrespectfully over her size. Tried to mentally and emotionally destroy her over having a figure a bit more lush than her sister. They're sisters, not identical twins!
OMG I so wanted to be these ladies in the 80s. If I need to go to an 80s themed party, I go as Ann Wilson. It’s rough on the hair though, all that teasing 😅
My fave Heart song! ♥ You should check out their song These Dreams - a rare Nancy Wilson led song BTW - you wanna check out another killer all girl 70s band, check out The Runaways I suggest their song Saturday Night Special
They look so different because Barracuda came out in 1977, and Alone wasn’t released until 10 yrs later in 87. The song you are thinking of, I Wanna Know What Love Is, is by the group Foreigner, and came out in 1984. You should check out their song Waiting for a Girl Like You. And anything by Journey
Heart has a sound in 70’s and a sound in 80’s and 90’s they are legendary and rock n roll hall fan .. earned .. diverse sounds and music .. great artists in the rock genre 💯.. love your reactions brother .. stay up and stay a true to you … 💯✌️🙏🇺🇸🦅
At the time, the record label heavily stylized them with hair, corsets, the horse, etc. They really battled to be taken seriously as musicians. It was s tough era for women in the industry.
They did a tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center when they were being honored in 2012 & the girls did Led Zepplin's huge hit 'Stairway to heaven'' & it was epic. The guys actually got a few tears. You need to watch both performances. Led Zep's & Hearts. Ann was 62 at the time & as kick ass as ever. Ann usually sings lead & Nancy kicks ass on guitar & also sings.
"Magic Man" and "Crazy on You" are similar to "Barracuda." "These Dreams" is a soft-rock tune featuring Nancy on lead vocals and was actually their first #1 hit (Alone was their second #1); and although the studio-version of "These Dreams" is great, I personally prefer the acoustic, live version "These Dreams - Live in Seattle." Also, others have mentioned their "Stairway to Heaven - Kennedy Center Honors," and I totally agree; but be sure to listen to the FULL 7:59 version as there are chopped versions of the performance out there.
Saw them in concert when this songvcame out there wore the black leather out fits and Ann's voice is incredible nancy is stunning and a fabulous guitar player what a group
If you love woman's band, you should listen to Vixen - Edge Of A Broken Heart, -I Want You to Rock Me, It Wouldn't Be Love, etc... All the songs in the 1988 album are bangers (a couple of songs in the 1990 album). They are my favorite woman's band 👍🤓👌
Great reaction!!!! Heart was a definite force in the industry. Ann Wilson was just (@73 years old) featured on a new ballad by Disturbed called Don't Tell Me. She still rocks!!! Also, Tommy Johansson did a cover of this song and itnis a phonomenal cover!
Ann and Nancy are the most phenomenal women rock artists. Ann’s voice and Nancy’s guitar skills. Ann also plays the flute and Nancy the piano. Crazy On You is the most powerful ballad by the Wilson sisters. Check it out.
They became more commercial in the eighties after a career slump at the end of the seventies. The power ballad was made for Heart. I admit that I am one of those people that ❤ power ballads!
I saw Heart once when Nancy wasn't with them due to her pregnancy (around '89-'90, I think). It was still a fantastic show. From their earlier days with Dreamboat Annie, Dog & the Butterfly, Magic Man, Barracuda, & Crazy On You through the 80s with Alone, In Dreams, Never, etc, they've always been great. It's hard to realize, as great on stage presence as she is, that Ann Wilson was actually more of an introvert... but when she gets that mic, it's just splendid. From what they said in an interview, the 80s look was not really their tastes, but what they were kinda forced into by the managers, producers, etc. It actually ticked them off in most cases. They're both fairy natural, earthy in their styles. I've never tired of their songs.
Heart is one of my fav bands. My sister went to one of their concerts in the 80s, and she had some of their music where I listened to them as a child. I love Ann's voice, I used to sing along, and practice my singing skills. It worked. lol. Went on to get opera lessons in college. Thank you Heart for being one of my inspirations
It's not like groups in these days were you hear one thing and everything sounds the same, that just gets boring....back then you had great bands that always had unique sounds, not the same old thing! And you have to remember to move with the times, the first song you heard was in the early 70's this was in the 80's!
Ann Wilson (the brown haired lead singer) is arguably the best female singer in rock and roll. Definitely check out the Stairway to Heaven tribute at Kennedy Center Tribute. It's incredible. She was 62 when she did that and her voice is still amazing.
I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s with some of the best music the Wilson sisters are great. But there so many more groups and great female singers try them all you won’t be disappointed
“I want to know what love is” is a song by Foreigner.
Great song❤
Foreigner was great! Do I want to know what love is!!
Went to Foreigner consert in the 80's,was sold out great show
Doufus...that was Foreigner. This is one of the best rock bands ever.
Foreigner “Urgent” is a banger as well.😊
Pat Benater and Joan Jet both great female singers to check out! Love your pod cast!!
Ann's vocals are a force of nature. She can whisper like a soft spring breeze, or she can howl like a hurricane. And she's always 100% in control of that magnificent instrument.
That’s a good way to put it!
And Nancy is a quiet whisper that sneaks up.
@@jerkwater407 Nancy is also considered one of the best guitarists of all time, especially on acoustic.
@@jerkwater407 I've always liked Nancy's voice, very under rated, but she is one of the best guitarists on the planet.
Beautifully put.
You have to do their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center. One of the best live performances ever. Her voice in her 60's is still one of the greatest female vocals of all time.
Second this request! 🎉
He need to do Zeppelin first he hasn't got a clue about it❤
Definitely!
A MUST WATCH
And now in her 70's singing on Disturb's Don't Tell Me....still banging it out.
This is a classic 'power ballad' of the 80s. And "I want to know what love is" by Foreigner is another one.
Power ballads were almost a genre in itself.
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful voices in rock!! She is absolutely incredible!!!

Don't forget about Dog & Butterfly and Straight On
When he asked that question I literally started laughing. Not because I thought it was a stupid question, but because I knew that the answer 100% had to be yes
Magic Man is a must listen from Heart imo. Love that you are doing them because they really are an amazing band.
I was thinking this was one BP NEEDS to take a listen to.. and Crazy on you… another showing off Ann Wilson’s amazing vocals
@@Emilie-one YES! I knew there was another one I should have said. Great song! Yes yes yes!
I concur, but would also like to add Crazy on You.
Devil Delight or Mistral Wind❤
Yes this is 80’s Heart Nancy the guitarist sings These Dreams!✌️😊

They felt like they sold out on their principles, to an extent. But, their 80s music was still insanely popular. There are many songs to hear, but two more, would be Crazy on you (live 1977). Magic Man. 🙂
I resented that they treated Ann so disrespectfully over her size. Tried to mentally and emotionally destroy her over having a figure a bit more lush than her sister. They're sisters, not identical twins!
a great band the 80's heart was remarkable
Their song "What about Love" is another banger. Crazy On You is my favorite song from them. They have so many other great songs as well.
Talented ladies love them
OMG I so wanted to be these ladies in the 80s. If I need to go to an 80s themed party, I go as Ann Wilson. It’s rough on the hair though, all that teasing 😅
ANN AND NANCY WILSON ... REAL ROCK STARS ! THE WHOLE PACKAGE !!!
Yup, same Heart. The Wilson sisters are amazing.
Yes Heart was Amazing 👍🏻
FAST FORWARD TO THE 80'S, HEART WENT MORE MAINSTREAM AND RADIO IN THE 80'S ... LOTS OF HITS... BUT THE 70'S STUFF IS CLASSIC !!!
yes, very similar to I want to know what love is in the arrangement. Ann is the Queen!!
Legends, brilliant reaction. Man the eighties music... !
This would be called a "power ballad" in the 80s. Many "hair bands" made these.
My fave Heart song! ♥ You should check out their song These Dreams - a rare Nancy Wilson led song
BTW - you wanna check out another killer all girl 70s band, check out The Runaways
I suggest their song Saturday Night Special
These videos from 80s MTV ,thats was a great era
They did a tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center when they were being honored in 2012 & the girls did Led Zepplin's huge hit 'Stairway to heaven'' & it was epic. The guys actually got a few tears. You need to watch both performances. Led Zep's & Hearts. Ann was 62 at the time & as kick ass as ever. Ann usually sings lead & Nancy kicks ass on guitar & also sings.
Another banger female led group: WITHIN TEMPTATION
Try their song 'Paradise' or 'Faster'.
They have to be an influence to all women singers that do rock they are the blueprint. No one did it better still.
Sister Nancy Wilson is among the great guitar players
This is why music is important
80s baladas are amazing nothing beats it
My BROTHER I LOVE HEARING ANYTHING FROM THE 80S ❤👍🏻 MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HOPEFULLY GIVE YOU THE ABILITY TO REALLY REALLY UNDERSTAND THIS MUSIC ❤🙏👍🏻
Yes, it is Heart...Absolutely beautiful 2 amazing sisters. Thanks for listening.
This is a beautiful song. ❤
Ann Wilson is the best female rock artist. She still sounds amazing. Disturbeds new song features her.
This was the 1st song and album by heart I ever heard when I was just 6 years old and I've been in love with Ann since 🖤🖤🖤
Ann's voice is magnificent
Love me some Heart!! It cracks me up that in a band fronted by these gorgeous ladies, it's the lead guitar player who has the best hair, LOL
this was real band group of HEART
They’re really versatile. Check out Dream of the Archer. It’s nothing like Alone or Barracuda.
Ann Wilson (the brown haired lead singer) is arguably the best female singer in rock and roll. Definitely check out the Stairway to Heaven tribute at Kennedy Center Tribute. It's incredible. She was 62 when she did that and her voice is still amazing.
Never is another awesome song from Heart
I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s with some of the best music the Wilson sisters are great. But there so many more groups and great female singers try them all you won’t be disappointed
