Just to provide a serious answer for those actually curious, it could very easily represent a character being reluctant to kill an enemy that's a person. A feeling, thinking human being is quite different from an animal, undead, or horrific looking beast. Even if it's in self defense, it carries a lot of weight. So it's really not that much of a silly weakness at all.
Yes. It's some of the greatest. The epic violin music that plays in towns sometimes, the haunting sad-sounding house/guild theme, the earworm tavern themes, all good.
Lol, exactly the reason I’m watching this Let’s Play and not playing myself. I can’t deal with that crap on my own time but passively watching him play it is great!
The torch guy in the intro is actually Ocato the Imperial Battlemage. In Morrowind, if you oust the Archmage Trebonius in a peaceful way, you get a letter from Ocato.
You meet him a few times in Oblivion too. He's the High Chancellor of the Elder Council and becomes the de facto ruler of the Empire after the Mythic Dawn assassinations. When the Septim line ends with Martin he officially becomes the Imperial Potentate, until he's assassinated by the Thalmor. So he was effectively the Emperor after Uriel VII and the last ruler of the Septim Empire
@@shadowmystery5613 "These credentials appear to be in order. Huh, I guess I've been spelling the Imperial Battlemage's name wrong all these years." Now where did I put that flin? -- Archmage Trebonius

~ 1:10:00 The reason, the ebony dagger works so much better than the other weapons, even though it's damage is not that high and your skill in short blade is not even close to your skill in blunt weapons, is its material bonus to the Hit probability. Iron weapons have - 10%, steel + / - 0% and ebony weapons +40% to hit probability. Since one skill point equals +1% hit probability, using a ebony weapon has the same effect as having 40 more skill points. (Weapon skills do not increase damage, contrary to what original ingame descriptions might say.) In your example you had from material and skill: 0% (steel material) + 6% (long blade skill) = +6% hit chance with steel broad/long swords sabers, ... (so you were right to disregard all long blades) 40% (ebony material) + 8% (short blade skill) = +48% hit chance with the ebony dagger (so you were right in your initial choice of the ebony dagger) 0% (steel material) + 35% (blunt weapon skill) = +35% hit chance with the steel flail -10% (iron material) + 35% (blunt weapon skill) = +25% hit chance with the iron mace (so you were wrong in changing to the iron mace at 1:16:54) Besides skill and material, also agility(attacker - target), luck(attacker - target), -armor(target), -dodging(target), +/-swing type, ... influence the hit chance. Total hit chance can never go below 3% and above 97%. If the numerical hit chance from skill and material is high or even above 100%, this can help to hit targets with higher agility and/or luck than you, high dodging, high armor, etc. So Daggerfall has the somewhat strange game mechanic, that armor does exactly the same as doding, high agility and luck. All just reduce the chance to get hit, not the damage. E.g. skeletons warriors have 80 agility, you had 60 in this instance. This further decresased your hit chance. By (60-80)%/10 = -2%. So counterintuitively, the skeletons in Daggerfall are early on easier to kill with a ebony dagger wielding, short-blade skilled, agile, lucky rougue, than with a strong, heavy hitting, mace wielding warrior or knight. Stupid game design, in my opinion. Material To Hit bonus Iron -10% Steel 0% Silver 0% Elven +10% Dwarv. +20% Mithril +30% Adam. +30% Ebony +40% Orcish +50% Daedric +60% In the lycantrope dungeon, it was btw great luck, that you found the elven mace, since lycantopes are immune to iron and steel weapons.
The Daggerfall Unity people did a really good job of upscaling the intro video. It's my favorite intro video for any game, even though it's just two guys in cosplay garb, one a serious actor and the other just some guy. The actor playing the Emperor really sells it and his lines are very iconic. I also like the room with the desk, candles and Daggerfall book. I've bought candlesticks and candles over the years to recreate the mood. I used to light all the candles before playing Daggerfall. These days my cat would knock them over and my dog would eat them.
Combine the following mods to really blow up the world size: * Basic Roads * Travel Options * Realistic Wagon * Airships * Hidden Map Locations With these mods you will add roads to the overworld which can be followed to get from place to place, disable the instant fast travel forcing travel via roads/boats/airships, and make your wagon/horse a real object that you need to take care of instead of just a bag-of-holding. Instead of getting a map full of cities you will start out with an empty map and markers will get added when you discover or are told about a location. This really slows down the travel and makes the "How" question of traveling a real concern. If it takes an hour to change region by following the roads at 20x speed, you start looking at doing things like teleportation for far distances/renting an airship/using a boat/etc. Also since traveling on foot is no longer instantaneous you will need to plan out the inns you want to stop at because sleeping on the overworld isnt as safe. Then throw in some mods to spice up the overworld like: * Wilderness NPCs * Distant Terrain * Mountains and Hills * Fixed Dungeon Exteriors * Wilderness NPCs * Warm Ashes - Dangerous Dungeon Exteriors and you'll be able to experience a Daggerfall that feels 100x larger

Really hope TES 6 adds back some of the stuff from these older games and go back a little to the tabletop inspirations. It is a,azimg looking back just how much there is too do in these older games. So much stuff has been cut in later games.
For those trying this out who want a small tip, While the Ebony dagger is a great material for doing damage to some creatures like Imps or worse, the Books are often good choices during the questions as they are randomly determined in value and can easily be worth way more than the 200 GP offered as a different choice. Could be a useful thing to grab two books to have some spare cash after you get to the first city you get to.

Just wanted to pop in and say I tried dagger fall because of this episode and thank you so much for that. It's an amazing game, and on the subject of dungeons? Until I actually finally explored everything
45:34 In Daggerfall Speed increases your attack speed, Speed and Agility are the most important stats for Melee Damage because Agility increases your chance to hit and Speed increases your hit rate, you hit faster and you have a higher chance to hit with high Speed and Agility
The map also has a black spot pop up in certain states that represent witch covens, where you can get special quests for magic items and relics and summon daedra. I don't know the conditions when they pop up because I did not see them in all playthroughs. There is still one in the capital though, which could do the trick.

Thanks for giving me something to watch whilst I recover from a fractured wrist. I can confirm frozen puddles and icy British pavements are more effective against skeletons (mine anyway) than your steel flail. Keep up the good work.
Daggerfall is actually pretty interesting. I rather like how your character had a backstory that melded well with the plot with Uriel Septim.
Wish the modern games had that kind of lore
Why are slaughterfish consistently terrifying in every TES game. I'm already afraid of the water D:
I swam in the Arkansas river and someone that was fishing near me caught an 7ft alligator gar. I never swam in water I couldn't see through again.
This is gorgeous. 😱 I may have to play Daggerfall again after seeing this.
Then play it don't say lol Noone cares go enjoy the game
In that first room I already said wow, this looks so much better than the original. Great work by the devs/modders.
I am utterly delighted to have found this channel, what a treasure xD
I've always wanted to see a good LP of Daggerfall, sweet
Love Daggerfall and all the fun it gave me. I was always exploring dungeons and never really finished the main quest until months later.
Daggerfall is a timeless classic. And yes, the music is great, especially in the dungeons!
2021 Starts off with a bang!
I actually turned into a 13 year old girl for sec when I saw this.
That’s alteration magic for you.
Not most typical moment for a 30 year old guy

I was your 70th like. Have a wonderful day.

I was born the year this was released and it still gives me the nostalgic feeling of the 90s. Not saying I played this as a kid, but I sure loved Oblivion as a child. Pretty neat to see this still played today
I've been waiting years for this. Love your stuff Jingles.
Well, 11 months later and I've gone through 2 volumes of your Morrowind let's play and I gotta say, lots of your videos keep me quite entertained.
The vibes off this game are unmatched
In terms of the convo dialog, Polite employs the Etiquette skill and is best obviously for the nobles, and Streetwise for the underclass. They affect the odds of getting information like hidden locations and of people. They both can make or break quests.
Oh sweet I have been looking forward to you playing this game. I hope you enjoy it. One of my favorite games.
Absorb Health's had an interesting journey. In Daggerfall it was just destruction, in MW it was Mysticism's offensive component, in Oblivion I think it was Restoration's offensive component, and in Skyrim it was back to destruction but I think only available to vampires.
vampires and enchantments. yea todd howard is a pretty dumb rich guy 🙄
This is the only game where I don't mind dying because it's so expected. There is absolutely no expectation that
I will complete a dungeon in one piece.
22:17 oh how the dagger has... fallen...
Really looking forward to this playthrough. Fun episode!
It's cool that you mentioned "The Quest" and you're right about it. It is quite good. When I finished it about a year ago I almost immediately played it again as a different character class.
"The Quest II" has been in development for a while. It is a day one purchase for me.
New fan here! I actually just started watching Arthur's series. So seeing this was a great surprise. I'll be sure to come back when i finish
Currently playing morrowind for the very first time and loving it, except the text being a bit small. I will have to try this next
No mods to fix text size?
@@ssheeessh OpenMW itself might improve. Among other features project also offers multi-platform and play-together for the game. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMW

Yeah I've been playing some of Oblivion Morrowind Skyrim on Xbox One X while waiting for my Xbox series X to get here I should add that I have beat Morrowind and Oblivion multiple times Skyrim technically is the only one I haven't because every time I play that game I just wonder off aimlessly
Man morrowind is s great time
I actually dont allow myself go back to it, because i already played it for almost 10 years! I spent so much time in it, i need to play other games now that i have a pc that can run anything heavier than the calculator! 😆
But even then i would gladly go back to morrowind at any given moment, its that good!, and oh boy you cant imagine how much i envy you for that "im playing it for the first time" part! 😄
Omg it finally happned. THANK YOU JANGO
I recall being about 14 years old and begging for this game for my birthday! I didnt care how buggy it was at the time. Mind blowing back in the day
Comin out swinging this year eh? Awesome! Thank you SorcererDave :)
Wow. This looks really cool, brings back old memories ! I saw this port a while ago, didn't think it was actually playable !
I hear you Dave, You have more hutzpah then I ever did. Daggerfall is a really slow plotted unforgiving of player mistakes very old school mess. Tts 1998 for me all over again. I'm just gonna sit back and live vicariously through your Let's Play of it. You go Dude!
Yes, as soon as I saw this. I felt happy. Love your LPs.
How genuinely enjoyable! Glad I found this playthru, excited to get into the rest of it.
Also, I have no idea who Arthur is so this being his dad is such a funny non sequitur thing😂
The voice you did for that Mages Guild quest giver is perfect. I can just imagine that being his dialogue haha.
Btw, save before you rest because if you level and it's less than 6, you can reload over and over until you get 6 pts of improvement , which is the max points of improvement per level.
1:03:17 he starts to play you are very very very very welcome
only Arthur's dad could spend 30 minutes and counting in deciding his skills..
This actually looks like a playable game, nice.
Perfect video for mini painting, cheers dave👍🏻
Please consider contributing to the Wayward Realms kickstarter campaign running right! It is Unreal Engine 5 sequel to the 1990s Daggerfall huge open world RPG...
Gosh, your original Daggerfall Stream is the reason I subscribed so many years ago!
Can you imagine a 1:1 Daggerfall conversion into the Skyrim engine? It would be the only game we need for years.
Honestly, Unity is better than that mess of an engine.
It wouldalso be the only games the developers would have to work on for years
It exists and is done.
The combat has me rocking back and forth in my seat lol, maybe I'll play this! Love The Elder Scrolls in general, and I'm trying to get into some more classic games
Started playing, love it. Also I'm surprised to keep running into my old comments on Daggerfall vids, considering I kinda forgot about this game for a while lol! Definitely an even bigger fan two years later.
2021 is already looking up!
Wish I've kept up on your stuff better, you've always been one of my fave LPers
Haha, you're finally doing it! Looking forward to this, Dave!
Good grief, Daggerfall was my introduction to CRPGs. Prior to that I'd had a mispent youth in various Arcades. It's great to see someone playing it still after all these years.
Remember playing Daggerfall when it came out, such an amazing game still have the original box and CD for it.
Ultima underworld is an amazing game, same with the second one.
Really need to give this a try. I got the original Daggerfall in the anthology but only recently discovered this unity version.
Really hope TES 6 adds back some of the stuff from these older games and go back a little to the tabletop inspirations. It is a,azimg looking back just how much there is too do in these older games. So much stuff has been cut in later games.
1:36:36 Love Ultima Underworld. Also kept thinking Eye of the Beholder as you were playing the first hour.
My favorite part of Daggerfall is true challenging looting, fraud, and nudity. In Skyrim one needs mods
For those trying this out who want a small tip,
While the Ebony dagger is a great material for doing damage to some creatures like Imps or worse, the Books are often good choices during the questions as they are randomly determined in value and can easily be worth way more than the 200 GP offered as a different choice. Could be a useful thing to grab two books to have some spare cash after you get to the first city you get to.
Is the book ONLY for selling? No extra spells or skills?
@@Aeroldoth3 Selling. The higher your mercantile skill, the better % of value you get for it.
The skill points gained by reading from a book is a later game feature to try and get people to open the books and maybe read them.
The person in chat who said he wished all dungeons were like skyrim, super linear with an easy exit...that's the reason we have watered down games like starfield now.
Rumour has it that, at the bottom of the deepest dungeon in the game, you can find the bastard playing the xylophone and beat the shit out of him.
Lockpicking was actually very useful for me back when daggerfall first came out. My character was a burglar. I would sneak around the capital city at night and burglarized shops. I had a full set of ebony and Daedric gear just from doing Burglaries. I was rich as hell without even doing dungeons.
If my spelling was that atrocious I'd probably stick to robbing to.
I just be falling asleep and wake up to anything but this was a banger
Saying "I always forget to do this" is how you perform magic to always forget to do this..
That Deckard Caine blip earned the" like" sight unseen..well executed sir
Such a fun game.
Really enjoyed the unity version
Just wanted to pop in and say I tried dagger fall because of this episode and thank you so much for that. It's an amazing game, and on the subject of dungeons? Holy FUCK you are right about their size. I got a quest to go to Ruins of the Ashhouse Estate (something vaguely like that) and spend 3. Entire. Hours. There. Until I actually finally explored everything
I have waited literal years For This day🔥
45:34 In Daggerfall Speed increases your attack speed, Speed and Agility are the most important stats for Melee Damage because Agility increases your chance to hit and Speed increases your hit rate, you hit faster and you have a higher chance to hit with high Speed and Agility
The map also has a black spot pop up in certain states that represent witch covens, where you can get special quests for magic items and relics and summon daedra. I don't know the conditions when they pop up because I did not see them in all playthroughs. There is still one in the capital though, which could do the trick.
Why can't I like this vid multiple times
Yea Dave! Excited
This one is my favorite in the series, but I still have a hard time beating it after all these years
SorcererDave in 2021, hell yeah
Just finally decided to give this game a shot after thinking about it for a little while and I'm loving it so far even after having come from the newer games like skyrim there's just something about this game and it's charm that I absolutely love
