I remember when I was little, my reading homework would be to: read for 15-30 minutes, then right a summary of what I read on a bookmark shaped piece of paper with separate sets of lines for each day of the week, and the space for each session was barely enough for a decent sentence. When I read or listen to a story it's like how on T.V. it turns into a visual representation of the story being narrated, so I basically daydream as I'm reading, or being read to.
I'm the same way. I see it all in my head whether I'm reading or listening to music. The enjoyment is far more lasting than watching a tv series for me.
I believe it fairness between parent and child, if you’re gonna make your child read, why not read with them? If you can prove to your child that reading is enjoyable by reading something yourself, then they’ll most likely be more voluntary in picking up a book. If you read the same book, you have conversation to talk about! 🥰 parent-child book club, that sounds adorable. Children are also very influenced by parents, so it’s better to read with them now instead of later when your kid is in Middle School and ignores you 🤷♂️
I've always found that people who started to hate reading because of school books both resonate with me and don't? I hate being given pages to read and I'm not allowed to read past because I'd read it all at once and love it. I've always like convoluted wording and structures in books, so stuff like Shakespeare and everything else that was super hard to understand tended to translate easily for me?
Actually in my school, one class we could choose from was a Shakespeare and Performance class. We'd pick one play every quarter, talk about it, and take a test at the end to make sure we understood the material. We also split into teams and performed scenes from the play. We even had a unit studying stage combat, with real swords! (We got permission slips from our parents, and we started off with foam swords, but still)
Parents: "Do what makes you happy and live a happy life!!" Me: *I do what makes me happy (art/uncommon hobbies/jobs) Also them: "You're gonna be poor, don't do that do this instead *shoves random uninteresting thing* . . 😑😑😑
I love reading. I can somewhat relate with Jayden but for me it was poetry. It wasn't until recently that I've gotten to where I read poetry because I want to. While watching this video I'd remember coming across classmates who said they hated reading...and for reading assignments I helped them find something they were interested in. I remember introducing this girl to manga (spoilers didn't care for mangas at the time), and it was the few material she'd read with a passion. As Jayden said, it ranges from person to person. For this post, I'm reading "monsters spotters guide to north America". It's an interesting book imo
I can relate to jaiden so much because I use to like reading alot to until it started being somthing we needed to do and it started feeling like a chore so I don't like reading anymore
With me, in school when we read books, in Spanish (because I'm from México) we need to make a presentations of the books BUT we can dress up, bring toys from the thing we read and present what happened. BTW I did one of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and I got an A++!!!
My nephew does not have a book quota, his mum and dad have him take 30mins of ready time everyday. He however does not have rules on what he has to read it can be comics, graphic novels, novels what ever they just want him to explore literature to find out what he enjoys. He enjoys reading now and has discovered genres he enjoys and what he does not enjoy and why which is always fun to talk to him about.
If I may, I would like to recommend the last emirichu video called "our embarrassing weeb years" (and also "childhood crushes 2"a little late), I would also recommend let me explain studio's last video, but I already saw other people recommend it for you so I won't
Who else is currently reading animal farm at school currently? I've got a project due when school start back to describe the two pigs who took charge after major died , how the were corrupted and draw them. Also if you read the book you know the ribbon obsessed horse is a betrayer
There's this book I'm reading called Children of blood and bone and is really good, it's a big book but is totally worth it, the story and the world they all live in is so magical and challenging!
I used to hate reading too, but during middle school, librarian noticed my disinterested of actual books ( I was huge manga reader) So, she taken me to mystery/ supernatural/ thriller section and told me " Try reading ( My real name) from this section, I can tell you not much for romance. So, let start off with these. " I spend literally 30 mins looking through the books. I can cross book series called Darkside by Tom Becker. It was 5 book series. I read book 1. And I fallen in love with it. Started going to library once week looking for more books. Even my teacher allowed me to read in class if I finished my work. From that moment on, I started reading books whenever I can. As wise man said " Knowledge is power."
I used to really like reading but as my mental health began to deteriorate and my (self diagnosed until I can get properly tested) ADHD got worse, I found it really hard to sit down and read a book. Audio books make it so much easier to consume books again.
My mom was pretty chill about reading but I did have to read at least three books of my choice during the summer. I would always read right before bed while my mom also read the same book. Then when I was finished, she would quiz me on the book so she knew I wasn’t cheating the system.
Books were an escape from loneliness for me because I used to read a ton of Geronimo Stilton and the Nevermore Series and connected with the characters a lot, as well as the occasional roald dahl novella. I love reading books to pieces, but don't quite enjoy school-issued books and Animal Farm was... Whyyyyy?! Same reaction to The Longest Memory. School books are usually terrible to read, ngl

I only given 2 hours a day time to play games (It was Nintendo or Sega back then and those are my big brother's, so if he was playing, I had to wait). and can only go out somewhere only on Weekends (either to mall or friend's house). now, I'm an avid gamer... because there are too many games I want to play!!! I’m like Jaiden, if I’m forced to read a book I won’t get into it ( with the exception of Spirit Bear). And my favorite book series I’m reading on my own at the moment on my own time, is The Rangers Apprentice.
I listen to Anime OP's while doing my homewotk. It really gives me a boost in confidence and even though I don't understand what they say. What I do understand is that the music is good.

I think audio books fall into the category of radio. Like those old radio cereals from the 40's or whatever. It's kinda like saying because I can read the subbed version of an anime watching a dubbed version of an anime counts as reading.
There was a choice of books I could read I range from a really short book and a really long book. I wanted to read the smallest book, However I was absent the day we chose so the teacher chose for me. The teacher chose the biggest book. IT WAS LIKE 800+ PAGES AND IM A SLOW READER. I was one day late on the first "work section" and the teacher gave me a 0 so that means all my hard work for that first reading section was NOTHING I COULD'VE NOT DONE ANYTHING THAT WEEK AND GOTTEN THE SAME GRADE. I finished the rest on time and got full grades for them though which resulted in me getting a 80% (B-) and I was happy with that. (In order to finish in time I skipped more than half the pages😅, but the teacher never found out so... Yay! 😂)
Tell me why, I too feel SUPER lonely when I listen to Lofi. Like I could be all happy and stuff and when I want to draw, I don’t want to be staring at my phone watching a video so I put Lofi and then BOOM 💥 🤯 it hits. The loneliness 😔 hits..... I still listen to it either way tho. Sooo, idk
