    Every single song on that debut Boston album is a classic. This epic record exploded onto the public after being turned down by every record company that it's creator, Tom Scholz, took it to for over half a decade. Pure spun gold! When I think of Boston, I think of summer.

    • @MrBallisticbob
      @MrBallisticbob 2 года назад +3

      I agree with the summer vibe. A buddy of mine and I while in garrison at Ft. Bragg, used to go out on the weekends to find a vacant baseball field and throw frisbee across the outfield listening to....Boston, of coarse! We actually made the Fayetteville, NC paper one time! lol I told the photographer who took the pics "must be a slow news day!" lmao Good times.

    "More than a Feeling" to me means that an old song not only brings back feelings about the past but memories you forgot about suddenly comes back. It is almost 3 dimensional to the point that you almost forget you are in 2021 and not decades before.

      I can't agree more. When I heard that song for the first time (I was 18 in 1976), it sounded like if I already knew it. I wondered if it was an old song that I didn't heard since a long time (An old forgotten song?). Very strange and strong feeling I never forgot.

    Boston, more than any other band that debuted in the mid to late 70’s, defined the next generation of rock and roll. They were so different and so talented that they just blew us away. That most of the debut album was engineered and produced by one guy in his basement, in his “free time”, should be an inspiration to every RUclipsr.

Barry plays electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay and Long Time. Barry also plays the lead guitar solo on Long Time. Fran plays the bass on Foreplay as well. In addition all of the tracks for Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad were recorded at The Record Plant and the band members as pictured on the back of the record played all of the instrument tracks on that song. The lead singer's name is Brad delp. I met and talked to him a few times when he was alive and he was a very down to earth humble guy. Brad was a big Beatles fan and was in a Beatles tribute group after Boston broke up. I went to see his Beatles tribute band Beatlejuice and saw him perform live several times. They were very good. Tom Scholz was the musical genius behind the music of Boston and was the guitar player on this song and actually did all the music while Brad did the singing. They had to put a group together to go on tour to do these songs but it was really just Brad and Tom.

    Boston hadn't been in this town, since 1978. "It's Been Such A Long Time", and they were phenomenal.

    There is a RUclips video of an interview with Tom Scholz (the composer and guitarist of Boston) who was asked if there ever really was a Maryanne that inspired this song. He said yes there was. When he was nine years old, growing up in Ohio, he thought the most beautiful girl in the world was a cousin of his named Maryanne who was about 12 at the time. They lived in different cities and of course, he only saw her when families got together for holidays or other occasions. So there's a kind of innocence and childlike wonder in his reminiscence of that childhood crush.

    Notice how long the guitarist holds the note going into the second chorus and then out of the bridge.
    My favorite of theirs - “peace of mind”
    If you want a singer to blow your mind, Queensryche “Take hold of the flame” live in Japan 1982. He hits an E5 twice.

    I saw Boston live in Toronto - 1977 (or '78 I think) and they were amazing! Brad Delp's voice was spot on as well as the rest of the band.

    This Song also reached a whole new generation of Fans thanks to The Movie She's Having A Baby starring Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern before she played Cora on Downton Abbey. It was also featured on The Sopranos at The Countr Club and Tony once again had a Panic Attack.

    Harri, you hit the nail on the head in your analysis. If I may expand a little, many of us who were teenagers and very young adults in the Sixties and Seventies were infinitely blessed musically. All too soon, the daily grind began abrading our souls, in varying degrees, to a bleak numbness. Personally, my faith in Christ, has always been a balm. Having just found your channel, these songs evoke, indeed, more than a feeling. I time travel back to a world of relative innocence, wonder and hope to re-acquaint myself with the teen-age me, the was, is and ever will be, true me. It is exhilarating. I tip my hat to you, sir!
