Have the Fz300 for the last 4,5 years. No issues in any conditions, very versatile camera when u get used to the settings etc

Yeah, it does seem like it'd be a pretty good camera once you get used to it. It definitely has its pros.

FZ300 has a 1/2.3 sensor, considerably smaller than micro 4/3. This allows the extreme focal length. You got some nice shots with it.

Wow, thanks for the info on the sensor size. I really had no idea. That makes sense though. It was an interesting camera to use for a day.

@@DanKleinow Although I shoot mainly with G9 and GX8, I've had a FZ300 since they came out. There are a lot of advantages to bridge cameras especially for the hikes you do. Weather sealed, very versatile focal lengths, and surprisingly good 4K video. The FZ300 also has a F2.8 aperture throughout it's entire zoom range.

@@tmuss That F2.8 aperture across the whole zoom is a pretty big deal. I hadn't considered that!

I have the English version, the FZ330 and the point of a fixed lines is, it’s “compact” and great for travelling as also water and dust resistant, to which very few cameras are at 3 times the price.
Also the lens full range is f2.8 making it flexible.
I think you missed the point of this camera model.

It's called a bridge camera. Might want to do a little research before reviewing something.
It's designed to be a less expensive alternative to dslr's but better than a simple point and shoot camera. Plus it takes very good 4k videos, time lapse videos, etc..
An entry level camera that doesn't require multiple expensive lenses to go from 25-600mm and costs under $500. It's not designed for professional camera snobs.

Not all bridge cameras are less expensive - ive seen some really expensive ones.
They have the capabilities of a DSLR in a smaller, more portable and more durable/weather sealed package

How long will this camera last on a single battery for video only? As in, how many minutes could I film. I'm looking to get it to shoot video mainly but I can't find any info anywhere on how much I will be able to film before I switch batteries?

Sorry for this late comment, but I've just come across this video. I was very interested to see you using the FZ300/330 out in the field. You got some very nice photos with it. I have a G9 with the Panasonic Leica 12-60 and 100-400 lenses, but I also have the FZ300/330 as a walk-about piece of kit.
Just to make a comment about the statement you made that you found the zoom control on the side of the lens a bit difficult to use when using the camera in the portrait position. Actually this camera has two zoom controls - the second one surrounds the shutter button on the top of the unit and you would have probably found this one much easier to use in the portrait orientation. I believe this camera first came out in 2015 and the fact that Panasonic are still manufacturing and selling it testifies to its popularity.
Please keep up your interesting videos - as someone living in the northeast of England, it's great to see the wonderful landscapes you are visiting.

Hey, thanks so much for the comment. The FZ300 seems like a great camera. Also, thanks for correcting me about the second zoom control, I guess I didn't notice that. I only used it for one day, I'm sure I would just need some time to get adjusted to the different control layout. Thanks for watching!

Do you know if you can connect an external monitor to preview when recording or is only for playback of content on SD card? Also, what was the video footage shot with?

    • @Mandelrot

FZ300 owner here: I normally use the Panasonic app to preview (and control) the camera from my phone/tablet, although you can connect a monitor via HDMI or even use it as a webcam (with not excelent results in this last case though).

Everyone's frame of reference is so different. You can't understand why someone needs a home so large, and others can't understand why you spend hundreds or maybe even thousands on cameras when you have a perfectly good cell phone camera. People are so funny and different.

I have a FZ300 and a recent phone: yes my phone has a way better sensor and in some situations it is what I need, but sometimes I make use of the optical lens/zoom possibilities and that is still unmatched by software.

Seems to produce an awful blue green cast to the sky and snow areas in the photos........... i was considering this camera but after seeing these pix i am having second thoughts now ! Is this an issue with this camera ?

Mostly every camera has this issue. It can be fixed in post or by manually adjusting white balance

Definitely interesting camera, but like you said, leaves you wanting lens options. Plus, I've heard others having dirt and grime getting into lens mechanism and causing slow function and problems if it's used in the usual outdoor elements. But, could be good starter camera on a budget, but like you mention, you can get good camera bodies and lens for not much more and room to grow. You helped me see that when I got my g85 and am slowly adding to my lens assortment. Glad I followed your advice. Thanks again.

Yup, was an interesting camera to use. As far as long-term use, the G85 and G9 work great for me. It's great to build a set of lenses that works well for your personal photography style. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. I especially enjoyed the hiking section. I have this camera and have been struggling with learning about all the various settings. I think maybe I should switch to an earlier version for simplicity reasons.
