Thank you for your comments ! Much appreciated ! :) We also have a video from a more recent dive at the Casino Point dive park, hope you like it : ruclips.net/video/4HXPE0tdcfs/видео.html
Nice video, thanks! It brings back lots of memories of diving in the kelp forests out there in early '70's. It looks like there is quite a lot of sargassum, or is that something else?
nice video but do you realise you swam straight past a beautiful white ornate ghost pipe fish at around the 1 minute 12 second mark?? quite rare and beautiful to see in person, being a dive instructor in the Philippines I have seen only a few of these beauties before
Thank you !! Actually, I don't think we have ghost pipe fish here in Catalina waters. I always thought that its just a piece of kelp that has lost its pigmentation...
I am telling you that is 1000% a ghost pipe fish.. I even paused it and screenshotted the frame, matching up it's fins and distinctive long nose to a photo I have.. I have done over a thousand dives in the tropics and know what I am talking about.. have a close look.. it's unmistakable
@@jackfalconer6247 I believe you when you say that you are a very experienced diver from the tropics. I am just saying that those fish are not known to inhabit the colder Pacific waters here in Catalina. After your first message I also got in touch with a marine biologist (Dr. Bill Bushing) who's had thousands of dives in the waters here. He too felt it looked like a piece of kelp. I do agree that upon freezing the frame the thing looks very much like a white ghost pipefish. However, as you yourself remarked, it's kinda unusual to see them free swimming like that. In my mind, that makes the case for the thing to be a pipefish weaker (i.e., not only did i accidentaly capture a ghost pipefish in temperate Catalina waters, but actually it was swimming !). Anyway, there's always a chance for freakish occurences in nature I guess 🤷♂️ 😊 Thank you very much for taking such an active interest though !!
Obrigado ! We dived with "Dive Catalina with Ron Moore" ... highly recommend them ! Hope you make it out to Catalina soon.. it is gorgeous in summer !! (Apologies for not being able to respond in Portuguese)
Wow !! I had no idea about the pollution ...on these dives we had a visibility of about 50 feet, but we have also seen much worse visibility at Casino point -- but that was in part due to bad weather (and a stirred up bottom) the week before our dives. We were advised to try some of the boat dives to see more variety in the marine life. Do you recall seeing a lot of variety in marine life at Casino Point back in the day ? Or was it at other sites at Catalina ?
Back in the '60s and 70's, Catalina was the primo destination for So. Cal divers back then. The boat fare was $30 (round trip) but even that was a lot for a struggling college student like myself. Other sites.
Amartya Banerjee I got the Olympus Tg5. I need to put it in a housing after ,fifty feet. The vidio quality is getting so good. You really capture Catalina. Now let's bring back Sea Hunt and the story.
Thank you :) Unfortunately, I don't think RUclips allows the background music to be turned off specifically. You can of course watch with the overall volume turned down :)
Super good video of what it is like to dive the Casino Point dive park. Thank you. I will be sharing your video with my dive club. Good job!

Music almost put me to sleep ❤️❤️😩
Awesome video!! Thank you for sharing❤️😍🌊
Thank you so much !! Glad you enjoyed ! Do check out my other videos (including a couple of recent Catalina videos).
Very well made, the kelp forest is certainly quite different with the coral reefs, thanks for sharing!
Many thanks for your comments Liu !! Glad you liked the video :)

Great to hear that ! It is indeed sargassum in the video !

very unusual to see one free swimming in the open like that.. interesting

if you changed the video name to " rare tropical white ghost pipe fish seen on dive near Catalania island" you would probably get. more views

O video está lindo!!! Espero no próximo verão estar a mergulhar por esses lado. Qual foi a escola de mergulho que esteve convosco???

Very nice video, what camera and settings did you use?
Thank you ! This was shot using a GoPro Hero 4 silver with a red filter.
what happen when the white shark come 😰?
It would be an exciting, heart racing and memorable encounter if we were lucky enough for that to happen ! :)
So sad to see Catalina degraded from pollution. Back in 1973 the water was almost crystal clear, close to 100ft. visibility and MUCH more marine life.

Oh great !! I have heard good things about the TG-5 and would love to see some videos !! Thank you once again for your words of appreciation :)
are you a certified scuba diver
yes :)
Cool video but I wish viewers had the choice of turning background music on or off.
