    I've gotta say I Love this. I use it to force naps upon myself lol

      “Force naps on yourself is sooo funny”
      I use it to meditate! First, I wind down by staring at the swaying kelp and colors and light peeking through..then I close my eyes and zone out to the scuba bubbles and breath sound! This is a treat!

    Hey, you guys have shot some beautiful pictures of this kelp forest. I wanted to ask informally if you would mind me using some of your footage in my class? I am a teacher for primary school and would like to show this to my kids and make some improvisational dance out of it (I especially like the scene with the fish between those two strands of kelp). I will always refer this footage to you and your channel and I won't use it in any public performances outside of the subject.
    Have a good time, and keep on with what you are doing!
    Greetings

      Apologies for the late reply! Those are Thetys vagina salps in their gonozooid chain form. Salps are incredible filter-feeding, gelatinous plankton related to tunicates ("sea squirts"). The chains are sequentially hermaphroditic from female to male as they age, and the eggs they produce become solitary individuals called oozoids that lay the chains by cloning themselves. Solitary Thetys vagina salps have two long tails, hence "twin-sailed salp" as another common name.

      @rr7firefly 3 года назад +1

      @@underwaterpat Thanks for your answer. I intend to look into that in greater detail. I'm an artist with an architecture background so I am always intrigued by biota that do not fit the usual profile of lifeforms. // I'll add that my favorite spot on the California coast is the kelp forest tank at the Monterey Aquarium. It has a profoundly intoxicating effect -- I have been known to stand in front of it for a very long time. One day I'll take the plunge (I hope).

    MY INNER MONOLOGUE: (was it anyone else too!🫣)
    A sunfish! Wait. Do sunfish live in that type of area?…..where is this again? There was a seal so it’s probably cold. Man, it has such an interesting shape and I’m pretty sure it was flapping its fins like wings…but then again, maybe it’s a more common creature and I just can’t place it because it’s facing towards the camera and the depth perception is kinda skewed…Hmmmmm.. it might have helped if I put on my glasses.

    • @underwaterpat
      @underwaterpat  4 месяца назад

      Sunfish are my favorites, and between the five types-Mola mola "common", Mola tecta "hoodwinker", Mola alexandrini "bumphead", Masturus lanceloatus "sharptail" and Ranzania levis "slender" sunfishes-they are found all over the world from temperate to tropical waters. We have both Mola mola nd Mola tecta here in Monterey Bay, they come in every year as juveniles and adults to feed on jellies!
