This video explanation has the best example: Remember when a Pachirisu Team won the Worlds? All you have to do is study a function on viability and develope it in a proper way. For sure that Pachirisu couldn't make it if it was Choice Specs, but the champion find a way it was useful.
Exactly! Sometimes a Pokémon just fills a very specific niche that a team needs to succeed!
To be completely frank tho, as much as it is my favorite Pikachu, Pachirisu wasn’t picked for being adorable. It worked as the exact right support Pokemon to cover for Gyrados, and the guy even went on record saying that the defensive IVs were a trade secret. It’s the best bundle of stats, abilities, and moves that worked to make the team as a whole work.
And that’s fine. Making a typically suboptimal Pokemon work is this exact process, but in reverse. Instead of finding the one little guy that makes everything it’s best, you take something weak that you love and build a team to make it shine.
I just got back into Pokémon after missing a generation. This guide with what I needed just finished the main game Pokémon Violet.
I actually decided (TODAY) to start learning how to team build for competitive battling. This video couldn’t be any more perfect as an introduction to it. Thanks! #NewlySubscribed
I agree w your team building concept. I think its important to pick a Pkmn you like or a play style for team build. Teams work better when working together.
I also agree w your comparison of Shiftry and Brambleghast. Both are similar but B.ghast has this interesting niche that Shiftry doesnt. Just to point out the opposite:
It can Trap w Infestation, spins and spin blocks, and it has immunities. I used a set w Rapid Spin/ Leech Seed/ Strength Sap/ Infestation, to Trap in phys walls or non- boosting phys attackers, hazard setters or spinners, deplete their viability, then switch. It ran Spikes before Leech Seed but after setting layers, it was pretty boring, even for normal stall shenanigans lol
Excellent point about how to team build- you can build around any Pkmn w enough consideration.
I appreciate the kind words! Yeah I think with enough thought put into what a Pokémon’s “niche” is on a team, you can build with nearly anything!
I'm a returning pokemon player who hasn't played since gold. Despite this being incredibly descriptive a lot has changed since i last played. Things have gotten really in depth.
First, welcome back! Second, if you ever are interested in diving into competitive and need some help, check out the Discord! People are always in there team building
getting into doubles and i like how you break it down! really helpful since im new
Glad it was helpful
Great teambuilding guide! Really appreciated the detailed explanations and decision-making process.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Definetly one of the best approches also for new Players, since its a very structured way of teambuilding!
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you a lot! It's so well explained with tons of info. Thanks to you, I might adventure into competitive ranked modes. I'm going to watch this in repeat!
Glad this was helpful
thank u so much for making a video on this. there isnt many vids on this topic. much appreciated ❤
Happy to help! If you need any help teambuilding check out the discord! Lots of people in there collabing
@@KneeckohGaming ok. thank u very much for the tip
I have always wanted to build a team with some of my favorite Pokémon, this video will be very helpful! Thanks :)
Happy to help
Solid video bro great thought process just started getting into duo battles on Scarlett and this has helped me with team building process
Glad it was helpful!
THANKKK YOUUU!!! with this guide now i can finally build a team around goodra :P
Happy to help
im putting the noti bell on too!
Awesome!
Thanks for the advice, I build competitive mons but I don't really build them with a 'team' in mind, I just wonder what would be cool and build a single mon around that. I don't play competitive a lot I just play with my own little friend group who also use niche or off-meta pokemon built competitively, so this is useful info for still using pokemon I want to. Thanks again!
Happy to help!
subscribed my guy!
Glad you enjoyed the vid!
oh boy, time to use my eevee in vgc! nothing could go wrong now that i have seen this guide!
Actually there was an Eevee team that did pretty well back in the Sun/Moon era lol
Pokemon is a mind game when it comes with pvp iykyk
Trick room builds seem to be the team building version of the Skyrim stealth archer build: always intend not to, but seems to devolve into anyways
Trick room is very powerful right now in Reg G with Ice Rider
Tfw I'm trying to build a team themed around G-Articuno and then this video pops up on my recommendations lol love it great advice
Glad I could help!
Great team building guide! Do you have any tips for mons to use with king Gambit and hatterene in trick room?
Indeedee, iron hands, Torkoal, ursaluna, just pick slow pokemon and see what works haha
Which team building style do you prefer? Meta teams or off meta goofy stuff?
While I appreciate the meta, since its built of the "best options", I prefer playing off beat or on lower tiers since you can use styles or Pokemon that might not be as popular.
It is fun to build that way for sure!
Meta goofy, I love finding hidden gems and destroying people because of the surplise
Love the daily uploads
Working hard to maintain that schedule so I appreciate seeing the feedback!
I’m trying to beat the indigo disk dlc, but it’s so freakin hard. I have my usual lvl 100 pokemon, I even hyper trained them but no dice. Super casual player, (and horrible with math at all), hoping this works just started watching
Im not really a big fan of double battles in general.(because of coliseum) so i avoid them if I can. But with the new dlc im getting the feeling I won't be able to do that. So I'm willing to learn the bare minimum to at least be able to finish the content on indigo disk. i just don't know where to start honestly since ive never played competitive before. I know how to ev train, and what IV's are, but that's it.😅
The big thing is finding what you like to play most as a team archetype whether that is Trick Room, tailwin, or balance and going from there. Then you think of a Pokémon or idea you want to build with and start slowly piecing it together. Pikalytics is a great resource because it has usage stats for Pokémon, the moves they run, and the partner pokemon they are most commonly used with
Building a team with Hydrapple atm thanks for the tips
Happy to help!
How would you consider 2 off meta picks but one is fast and frail and one is slow, as trick room/tailwind seem to compete with each other, Do you sorta pick one and use the other as coverage for when your speed control is down/opponent trick room or just dont use them in conjunction?
Depends on the Pokémon. Probably wouldn’t use them in conjunction with
what if ur new to the game is there a good video u would suggest to watch to get started is there any cool team with normal typhlosion ?
Choice scarf typhlosion, with sun is really solid. I would just search for typhlosion teams and you’ll be able to track one down
I wanted to use mimikyu in some ways but i kinda have have gothitelle in my mind as TR setter but mimikyu's abilities allow her to hav one more free moves, so which one is better? Sorry im very new to this vgc
Both are good as potential TR setters
Wanted to get enough time before they introduce restricted Pokémon ti make a good executor team but the problem wasn’t like previous gen’s where there wasn’t nothing I could do it was I couldn’t figure out the best option from multiple options that worked
Expanding force chlorophyll is pretty solid on it
@@KneeckohGaming was thinking of that but also wanted to try a bulky harvest set
id say, even if another pokemon does the role better, you can still use an off meta pokemon. It doesnt have to be unique. Just know that it's not the best in that role. Nothing wrong with that as long as it has strong teammates.
from my own experience, i made a ledian work. That was tough. It's not the best iron fist mon in the slightest. But i made it work. didnt have to find a niche or anything. Just know that instead of one shotting things like medicham, it would take 2 shots. so you might want a pokemon to raise it's defense or take hits
what about approaching deoxys A???? im lowkey struggling, i really wanna use him
I'm assuming this is a single-battles related comment, so I am not sure TBH because I play VGC exclusively
Man I really have been wanting to make a paldean Tauros team. I just don’t know how. I kind of want anger points + flower trick but I feel like it is hard to pull off
I’d just use intimidate. Typically intimidate with a mirror her is really solid because you can intimidate something like Kingambit or Annihilape and copy their attack boost
@@KneeckohGaming okay I never thought that. How would you recommend building around it? Like I want to use Blaze-Breed. Typically I dive too much into “sun strategies” that I end up becoming a one trick pony so to speak
Can someone give me tips for getting set up very early on in the battle and being able to keep the pokemon I'm trying to set up alive. I want to do a goofy team involving Torracat Power Trip
Redirection could help
Even if I build and amazing team I feel like I always click the wrong move or switch in
That all comes with practice
How do I bring my Showdown team to Scarlet and Violet?
Build it in game.
Q: How to Team Build with any pokemon?
A: Run a meta team and just change 1.
That’s it. Running more than 1 or two off meta picks puts you at a disadvantage. There is a reason the top Pokémon are the top Pokemon
I can’t understand how to build a team I have seen lots of videos but I can’t still understand…
It's a process learning admittedly! If you have questions the discord is a good place to go
Wouldnt it be great if game freak made all of the Pokemon competitively viable 🤷♂️
That would be unbalanced. I don’t want that
I just want to use bond greninja 😢
Ok
what if all the pokemon I want are all steel type? :(((
Incineroar will gobble you up 🤷♂️😅
Not if one of the leads is Klefki using Rain Dance lol and the usual answer... Tera
Also Heatran and Empoleon
@@KneeckohGaming Steel types are cool :D
I mean all legendaries should simply be banned again 🤷🏾♂️ i used to dominate b/w. Now i have to face base stat off the chart legendary pokemon that outspeed defend and have devastating special attack the online battle community is honestly trash now. Protect and fake out wins. Them legendary speed and attack/sp attack. Id like to see a legendary counter video. Its all null and void when calrex kos a 1x effective pokemon with his special move or stellar which is literally goofy gameplay. A LEGENDARY WHO OUTSPEEDS DEFENDS AND HAS A SUPER EFFECTIVE MOVE TOWARDS ALLLL POKEMON. Trash cheesyness
Restricted legendary pokemon are still banned 😂
