Hello my friends! People have been asking forever about how I make my videos...well here you go! Lemme know if you have any further questions. Who’s ready to make their own videos?
I think a quick reminder about drone footage is also in order. Many national and state parks have no drone fly policies. Folks need to verify that they are allowed to fly and film before they do. I know of several Instagram accounts that actively search for illegal drone footage and will report these actions to the proper enforcement agency, usually resulting in fines. Some people feel like they can fly and film anywhere, but that is not the case. Knowing where you can is always a good policy. Thanks for the upload and great info as usual Ryan.
Hi Ryan! Last week the world was just talking about Game of Thrones. Not here. No-no. At home we were binging with your LoveCycle series. (Shh! No spoilers please! we are still half way!) I just discovered your channel and loved it. (Extra points for being veggie) I'm about to document my first bike adventure in a couple of weeks (Amsterdam to Bruges) and your channel was of great inspiration. Thank you for sharing your story, looking forward to keep watching your adventures.
German Di Manzo just wait until we release the dragons in the last episode, haha!! Thanks so much for watching, and have a great time on your own adventure
If you don't film it, it never happened. Such a good rule. Btw I subscribed yesterday after watching the White Rim video - I really liked your style of storytelling. I also make bike videos - but have never focused on story. I missed shooting a close call when I ran into bear last year on my bike. It was kind of a big life moment... I vowed to never miss an oppurtunity to shoot a story like that again. Keep up the great work!
Everything you said is 100 percent true. Especially the part about breaking out the camera when things aren't going so well, or you aren't in the mood--that's what makes an interesting video! Also, all your videos are perfect!
LOVE your channel! I am returning to cycling planning in 2023 the absolute adventure of my life, @ 65 years old. Dunno if you remember the Coors Classic bicycle race, but it’s precursor, The Red Zinger Bicycle Classic 1976, based in Boulder I raced in it! Absolutely incredible experience.
Wow! I thought you'll never share your secret of producing very engaging adventure videos. I will not stop watching this over and over again until I get it right. Many thanks, Ryan. I like the part about showing pain - that will really add value to the video.
Good advice but what makes your stuff memorable is the people you meet, their stories, and then letting us be there with you vicariously. The opposite would be hours of incredible scenery without including people.
Good story all on it’s own. I like the emphasis on small and light and don’t weird out on the gear. Your adventures and Erik Normark (Sweden) for something entirely different, are my favorite adventure video story tellers.
Been hoping for this video for a while! Made a couple videos about previous bike tours, and each time I learn way more. Biking across Canada in 2020 and planning on documenting it :) Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for this information. I've been making some cycling videos for fun on RUclips as well as informational videos for my chiropractic practice. My chiropractic videos have become more popular than the cycling ones...but I like doing my cycling ones much more...trying to show how cool my area is for cycling (Southern California - land of fires and mudslides lately). Thank you for this advice on how to make videos more "adventurous." I will put it to good use. I really like watching your channel. It's very motivational.
Classic Duzer, excellent information. I appreciate the emphasis on minimalism rather than excessive gear... I would be intrested in seeing when the next one on editing what app I use or whatever that would be great nice job Ryan thank you
Just want to say that you make some awesome videos and you seem like a truly genuine person, and so likable. Thank you for all the bicycling videos. Please keep them coming.
Awesome video. I just got my first bike last week and did my first 30 mile ride around town today. Your videos have really made me excited to ride. My goal is to do a small tour this spring while I train and get gear this winter. I'm shocked you don't have more subscribers! Your videos are really well done. Keep it up!
Hi Ryan, thanks so much for this! Started filming my bikepacking adventures and even though I'm not getting that many views, I am really enjoying the process and getting some positive feedback which is a massive kick! Thanks mate.
I only just discovered this video after becoming a new fan in recent months. I filmed my first ever bike tour last year, from Halifax to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (Canada). I used a GoPro 7, with a chest mount the whole time. Most of the footage...isn't very interesting, sadly. I'm not a filmmaker, so I didn't really know what I was doing. But your videos have been an inspiration for me, both for bike touring and for filmmaking. I'm planning on doing some short tours this spring & summer, and bought some camping gear for the first time to try bike camping. I did recently get a GoPro 10 and will be using that for my journey. But I'll definitely be using your advice and maybe using a selfie stick with it or other tricks. I really want to do that tripod trick you do because I love that footage. I wish I could afford a drone, but I can't right now.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. One of the things I struggle with mentally is the whole setting down the camera and running past thing. One of the things I’ve noticed with my running videos is that footage of a person running is generally better than footage FROM a person running, but I still can’t get over the weirdness of setting down my camera and running by. Seems that it’s a common way to film though, so maybe I’ll get over that stigma eventually :)
It certainly is weird...and it took my awhile to get comfortable with it...but those types of shots make me VERY happy when I'm editing, so it's worth it.
The Greatest American Hero!! I used to watch that show, pretty funny!!! I never took video, well my last tour was 19 years ago! I'm not into editing so I think I'll just use the go pro as a video journal! Not out for subscribers, its really to have to look back on when I lose my memory again!! I'm a M.S.er!! And if people want to watch, cool!!! When I want to watch a professional video, I'll watch yours!!!👍 keep up with the awesome adventures!!!
Great video Ryan. Variety of shots is the key for non-storyboarded run & gun adventure cinematography. A fun challenge is to make a 60 second video using at least 7 (or 10) types of shots that tells a full story. You could do a next video on types of shots for adventure cinematography. There’s lots out there already though. Cheers from Canada!
Really happy to see how much your channel has grown over the past two years Duzer! Congratulations! Also, thanks for this awesome video. I have a separate adventure channel and I'm trying to produce content like your own. This is great inspiration!
Great advice. I'm always scared to use my drone because of all the crazy restrictions so it's basically been sitting unused to years. Cheers and keep creating my friend.
WoW, thanks for this Ryan. It sounds complicated but I bet with some practice it can come more naturally? I love the Videos and I cant wait to see more!
Great ideas Ryan.. myself and Angie are going for it this year. Got most of my kit sorted for recording... One question, what do you do to charge up your mavic air batteries if out in the wilderness, I have 5 batteries for my mavic air, plus a jackery power bank that can actually take a plug, so I can use my mavic charging kit.. ? Great vid and love the humour 👍😉 glad you actually brought this vid out, as I've been thinking how to record our journeys. . You made easy and simple to explain. . Great advice Ryan 👍 Hope you and Ali are doing great to ❤❤👍🍺🍸
A trick from the tail running channel "Flo & Nord": Mount two cameras back to back on a single tripod. Position the tripod along the way and run past it. That way you get a shoot approaching and departing from the cameras in a single take. Actually I got inspired by you and other channels to make my own trail running videos. Bought a camera and didn't get far. As you show in this video, you have to setup shoots. This disrupts my running to the point that I don't wane do it. And editing videos is an annoyance to me. As much as I like to watch videos, as much do I dislike the process of producing them myself.
Great tips Ryan, I have found over my time filming and editing adventure videos. Just like anything else the more your practice the better you get at it. I have posted over 500 videos and cringe at looking back and seeing my first few and how terrible they were. Slowly get less bad the more you do it haha.. Great channel mate, all the best!
A very informative video packed with excellent info! Thanks for sharing trade secrets! Makes me appreciate your videos even more know the amount of work that you put into it.
7:40...people 'back home' like to see you suffer. So true, I had a blog for the great TransAm and Kansas was the state with the most views...my office mates *loved* that I was not loving Kansas.
Thanks for all the tips. I can't wait to try the 10, 10, 10 with my action cam. How do you first make contact with strangers and inspire them to interact on camera so warmly and not at all awkwardly. Lol thanks for doing what you do!
Love the videos.. very inspiring.. there's no such thing of a bad adventure.. but I've got one question.. I've posted a few videos on my channel.. I do get camera shy.. my videos are made from a Iphone.. I am thinking of getting a Laptop to help with the editing.. where I can put my video clips & photos and make a good video.. what laptops have you had good experiences with.. bringing extra extra batteries is great tip.. they don't take up a lot of space......
Hello friend! Being camera shy is something I dealt with too when I first started. It's something that slowly gets better with time and practice. I use Apple laptops, but pretty much any laptop with a bit of power can do video editing. I always edit to an external hard drive, that helps make it faster. Good luck buddy!
need a video about the other important thing...EDITING ! Do you have a program that you edit with?....I so wished that on last Novembers Everest trek that I had shot more video. Plenty of still shots...just not a lot of video. Any thoughts on iPhone for video?...thanks for the video...LOL
Yeah, maybe I'll make an editing video...iphone has some editing apps, but they're pretty basic, but sometimes, basic is all you need to tell a story. I use adobe premiere on an imac pro
What software do you use Ryan on laptop, I've tried a couple but they eat into the memory of my laptop and slow it down .. any hints and tips please .. I've got a couple off apps on my phone that I use for videos and pics but my laptop I need to use to .. phone is great while on the move , as me and Angie will be riding lands end to John O'groats in August, but we have a coast to coast , trans pennine trail and Trans Cambrian trail to .. cant wait ...
I use Premiere, but yes, you need a fast computer with lots of memory to tackle big editing projects. Sometimes a phone is best, it's easy to whip out at any time
@@duzer I use kinemaster app on my phone and for pics I use lightroom... I'm going to see how kinemaster works on my laptop first, If I need to get more memory for my laptop I'll do that .. but it looks like kinemaster might be ok for my laptop with windows 10 ... will check that out first ... cheers for the info Ryan 👍
Hey Ryan! I love all your videos. They definitely inspire me to want to do an epic adventure like the ones you do someday. You should really look into Skillshare. I think it would be so cool for you to teach a class or two on how you make your videos and go more in depth on your equipment and editing. I know I would love to take a course on how you do this. Just an idea to help get you some more income. Hope you are well and staying safe! All the best!
just wondering what are your thoughts on the jandd mountain expedition panniers ? sony hanycam is a pretty good camcorder plus has nightview helps seeing in the middle of the night lol and great video as always
Why hasn't sesame street not gotten ahold of you for an appearance! Do you realize how many children could use a positive fun cooky cyclist as a new character. That would be totally bad ass! I'd totally ride with a Ryan Duzer Muppet and solve all the world problems on my handlebars. Lol
How have you protected the Sony compact zoom camera from moisture? I use a larger panasonic that is weather proof, but I'd love to move to something smaller for the "beauty shots". I use dji osmo action and it does great as an action camera. Thanks for feedback or other camera like the Sony Zv
Thank you for this video Ryan. I have been watching how-to videos this morning for my video contest at work and I realized that making videos is not as easy as watching them :) I have this huge respect for what you do right now. How much Aleve do you take when you make them? Do you have a subscription? Thank you for the tips. I had fun watching it!
I'm into photography and backyard adventures are the best. I'll post a photo and my friends will be like ... oh wow where in the world are you? Dude. I'm half a mile from your house. Drive down ___ St and turn left on ___ then park in the lot
Thanks for the great video Ryan, you are inspiring us to begin creating our own videos. One question, I also have an rx100 and I noticed you had some type of small dead cats on the internal mic pickups. Did you make those yourself, or buy them?
Flies On A Wall hello! I bought those online, forget where...search dead cat for point and shoots and you’ll find em, they make a big difference. Good luck with everything and have fun learning!
Sweeeeeeet! Do you by chance recommend any good LUTS for editing in post production? I just got the Mavic Pro 2 & I'm excited to see how the video turns out! I'm trying to find some great LUTS for the drone footage. 😀
Good question. When I first started talking to my camera in crowdsI felt very awkward, like everyone was looking at me. Truth is, nobody really cares, they're used to people talking to their cameras for social media...and I've become more comfortable with the practice. Also, it's vital to the story, so even though it might be awkward, it's essential, so that helps me get over my fear
Great advise Ryan. The definition of Relativity? The most subscribers on RUclips - 1. PEWDIEPIE (66.6 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS). I have NEVER heard of him, and therefore, he NEVER once motivated me to get off the couch and go outside. You have........
How many of those little memory sd cards do you usually take, and how muxh memory in each one? Do you take any extetnal microphones or just record audio from your cameras mics? And you take two battery packs correct? How many MAH ? Im planning on documenting my trip which is coming up in a little over a month and am very inspired by you. Thank you for your work
I have a dji mini 2 , gopro hero 8 black, and galaxy s20. Do you have any recommendations how i should record my audio? Will be with two other friends and want to catch all of our conversations with good audio. Thank you again
Hello my friends! People have been asking forever about how I make my videos...well here you go! Lemme know if you have any further questions. Who’s ready to make their own videos?
Ready. Inspired by your RAAM ride a few years ago. Looking to get an 8 person team together in 2020.
Chris McQueen nice!! RAAM was an incredible experience. Hope you make it happen someday
I freaking need your X3000 dead cat! What are you using?
Ryan, you're a power of nature! I'm really inspiring watching your videos. I plan to do the first within 30 days from today, promised.
How do you find someone to edit your videos... because I don't have the patience or knowledge to do editing, nor the hardware or software.
Wonderful advice and hilarious. Truck commercial, fear of immediately crashing drone... I feel ya!

Very true, you gotta know local regulations for drones...good thing I'm usually in the middle of nowhere so there's no rules :)

Great tips thank you!!! Just subbed, looking forward to seeing your other vids!
Thanks for subscribing!! Stay tuned for more vids
Yikes, I made Four Truck commercials hahaha
Very helpful video. I think I’m gonna go bike lol
thank you for your tips ;-)
You got it!
just wondering what are your thoughts on the jandd mountain expedition panniers ? sony hanycam is a pretty good camcorder plus has nightview helps seeing in the middle of the night lol and great video as always
I've never used those panniers, sorry! And yes, Sony is great at night. Cheers!
what panniers would u recommend for living off a bike long term ?

Why hasn't sesame street not gotten ahold of you for an appearance! Do you realize how many children could use a positive fun cooky cyclist as a new character. That would be totally bad ass! I'd totally ride with a Ryan Duzer Muppet and solve all the world problems on my handlebars. Lol
Great video and tips thanks!!
Thanks!
I got up off my couch had a lot of fun with my bike and broke my foot I’m back on my couch for awhile.
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon
I juz gotta get some new batteries for my Sony PC110 and I’ll be back in business...
haha, I have some of those my man!
When riding & flying your drone, how do you hold the controller? Is it attached to your bike somehow, or just holding it? Thanks
Good One but you forget about memory cards and Hard Disks
dang, you're right! lie batteries, I always bring lots of memory cards
Sweeeeeeet! Do you by chance recommend any good LUTS for editing in post production? I just got the Mavic Pro 2 & I'm excited to see how the video turns out! I'm trying to find some great LUTS for the drone footage. 😀
I haven't used LUTS, but they look great on certain videos. Good luck experimenting with them...and that Mavic 2!
thanks for all the tips! What do u think about the 360cam all over youtube now?
They’re pretty sweet!!
I am very curious how do you get your confidence speaking to camera yourself while in the crowd.....
Good question. When I first started talking to my camera in crowdsI felt very awkward, like everyone was looking at me. Truth is, nobody really cares, they're used to people talking to their cameras for social media...and I've become more comfortable with the practice. Also, it's vital to the story, so even though it might be awkward, it's essential, so that helps me get over my fear
.great content, will iMovie work as a program and a iPhone to video???
Yep, imovie totally works to edit iphone footage
Great advise Ryan. The definition of Relativity? The most subscribers on RUclips - 1. PEWDIEPIE (66.6 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS). I have NEVER heard of him, and therefore, he NEVER once motivated me to get off the couch and go outside. You have........
Awww, thanks Dennis! Hope life is treating you well
What program do you use to edit your videos? I LOVE your videos, by the way!!
Thank you for your work
I see you use rode video micro as a mic so disregard that question. Unless you have other mics
I have a dji mini 2 , gopro hero 8 black, and galaxy s20. Do you have any recommendations how i should record my audio? Will be with two other friends and want to catch all of our conversations with good audio. Thank you again
