Glad you liked the movie Grace. Bear in mind the reason the book(s) were so popular was because of the complexity of the ideas - it is a science fiction classic.
Hey Grace, just so you know Dune part 2 is still adapting the first book, Dune Messiah is one of the most depressing books I`ve ever read, And they would have to change it immensely to make it commercial, I wonder if this movie makes a buck if they would try and even more curious if they would succeed...
Pugh is the next Scarlett Johansson....smart, beautiful, and talented. Hopefully, she won't get swallowed up by Marvel and will continue bringing herself into more projects in the future.
I think if you don’t care about spoilers for the third film you should listen to Quinn’s ideas videos summarizing Dune. The books cover more of the philosophy, reading it is really hard. But the concepts offered are really beautiful and intricate. The first 2 movies are just a taste of the iceberg. Also, finish Young Justice season 4 and watch the Arkham City cutscenes hahaha. You’re missing out on the good stuff, take your business hat off for a bit and make time for these things. Talk about emotionally moving surprises
The issue I had with the first movie is that they did so little to explain stuff. Like the spice. I know it’s a metaphor for oil, but I have no idea what it does in this world.
Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood when I watched the first movie but it bored me. Beautiful but I often lost interest. I’ll try watching it before the sequel to see if I can learn to love it lol.
I think Denis next film will be Cleopatra starring Zendaya. He said that he was gonna do an another film before he was going to do Dune 3 and he also said he isn’t doing Dune 4.
The emotion… being able to connect with the characters is the true magic of any book is what Brandon Sanderson (fantasy writer) said when describing his first ever book “Elantris” and I 100% believe that principle carries over into all forms of media
As an outsider who hasn't seen Dune 2, I don't know why Grace Randolph says this movie is based on Dune Messiah since I've assumed Dune 1 and 2 are based on the original Dune novel while Dune 3 will be based on Dune Messiah (Frank Herbert's second novel of his Dune books). Is Grace hinting that part of Dune Messiah novel included in the second movie?
Glad you liked it! I plan to see it twice to support it. I feel the issue is that this isn't a sequel - it's the remaining acts from the first movie. I didn't even want my wife to watch the first movie until now so it's fresh going into this. I still recommend you read the source. DV has worked hard to stay true to it which I respect and I believe you'll get a lot out of it. Yes I want Dune Messiah, but know that there's no other point like the second half of Dune. It's great and it completes the story of Paul, but think of it like Godfather Part 2 vs 1.
Freemen struggle with colonisation? Wait till we get to God Emperor of Dune . Also the Freemen were colonists too , from before the tech wars against AI . That is why they are gene moded (just like bene gesserit, and later fish talkers) , savage , but access to some tech bordering on "magic" .
14:17 Zendaya’s great. Her development has been a joy to watch. And she IS 1000% ready to shoulder movies on her own. It’s really great to see a young actress hold it together in this day & age, get better, and on top of that, choose great projects. Not sure how long she’s been in the game. Often it seems like they just show up as a lead one day, when in reality she’s probably been acting since she was a young child. Certainly her early music career made her comfortable in front of audiences and physically able to do different things. I’m really impressed by her.

First dune was way better! part 2 felt rushed at the end. They was also some weird editing going on when Paul was riding the sandworm. Oh and you could tell that there were reshoots. Stuff was definitely cut out.
MFSS when Grace continues to call Paul a "White Savior" not realizing that Paul is the villian. The entire book series is a warning about 2 things, the shadows that pull the strings of power (Bene Gessirit), and the dangers of a charismatic leader.

Part 1 sets everything up and part 2 should definitely knock it out of the park due to all of the reveals and events that I know will happen. Part 1 was a masterfully done.
Part 1 only being the first half of the story is what hurt it for me in terms of my enjoyment of it. I can't think of any film or story that would be wholly satisfying just seeing the first half of it.
Dune did amazing, it grossed $434.8 million, very strong for a pandemic movie.
@@manantial773 could've been a billion easily. Also, $165 million budget plus you have to double that for marketing, so we're looking at a rough cost of $300 million total budget. Yes, it made a profit, but for a movie like that I should have been $800+ mil
@@derf0007true but you have to remember it was released in streaming the same day and was also released during the pandemic. Considering those factors, the profit + steaming profit was decent
My brother said he fell asleep during Dune 1. He read the story synopsis and said the movie sounds like it was good. Lol
It's just 1 long movie, not a movie and a sequel
Even though Grace doesn't bother to mention it, Hans Zimmer's score is outstanding in this one!
Great News Is That Dune Part Two Is Coming To Netflix Australia On December 12!
The issue I had with the first movie is that they did so little to explain stuff. Like the spice. I know it’s a metaphor for oil, but I have no idea what it does in this world.
I loved the first Dune. I rewatched recently and really don’t understand the boring claims.
I love how you say Pew with a higher pitch.... Every. Single. Time. 😂
Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood when I watched the first movie but it bored me. Beautiful but I often lost interest. I’ll try watching it before the sequel to see if I can learn to love it lol.
Definitely watch both parts at the cinema 🐛
Everyone who read the book knew that the second part would pack a lot more action, and it delivered
This is one of your best reviews! Thank you! I am so excited to see this movie! It looks so epic and fantastic.
Dune 1 was great tho....
The Batman comparisons has me so excited. Tickets already purchased for Dolby on the 29th
GOD I cannot wait to see this move like 10 times over. IMAX, Dolby and RPX.
Thimothee Chalamet hes just a generational talent. The last one who get that impact its maybe Leonardo Dicaprio !
Zendaya is not “the girlfriend “ in Euphoria and she’s awesome.
Only movie I’m interested in seeing in theaters this year. I’ll be there.
Now I’m even more excited. Couldn’t wait to see it and now I really can’t wait
When you split a book, the first half typically isn't going to be as much fun. Look at The Deathly Hallows.
I’m really impressed by her.
and she's so beautiful 🥺
YESSS! My most anticipated film of the year, I LOVE the book series. Can’t wait!
The ambiguity is so important. It's the one major thing the Lynch version and the SciFi mini series just didn't understand.
Thanks, Grace! I already knew I was going to like it (Imma die-hard Duner) but knowing you had such a great experience with part 2 makes my anticipation all the better. Can. Not. WAIT!
Great review, Grace! Can’t wait! IMAX and premium seats are filling up fast here in Dallas for opening weekend! Even some theaters with basic seats and screens are filling up. I really think opening weekend is gonna be big! $150M opening weekend big!
Grace Dune 1 did very well considering it came out during Covid. This sequel will do very well as they are promoting the hell out of it and word of mouth will be good.
I love how they have accurate eye colors in this movie. More casting issues would be solved with eye color contacts and proper color hair colors. Excited to see this.
Movie of the year
So IT IS the Empire Strikes of Star Wars
No The Empire Strikes back is the Dune Part 2
The delay really hurts it’s awards chances. It will be relegated to only below the line, even the only VFX maybe. Regardless of how great it may be.
No comment on Audio? Next to the visuals that was one of the best parts of Dune one. Effort and attention into the sound was incredible. Great review though
PART 1 WAS AWESOME!
Thanks for the review Grace ❤
I'm in Mexico City planning to see Dune 2 in English IMAX, so it will probably have Spanish subtitles. Does anyone know if there is any Fremen or other languages spoken in the film? My concern would be that these will be subbed into Spanish too and I won't know what's being said.
The Fremen speak a different language. I saw the sandworm clip and they weren't speaking English at the beginning of it.
@@mmorgan1980 OK, thank you.
First dune was way better! part 2 felt rushed at the end. They was also some weird editing going on when Paul was riding the sandworm. Oh and you could tell that there were reshoots. Stuff was definitely cut out.
Even Rebecca Ferguson? Wtf, she’s always awesome
MFSS when Grace continues to call Paul a "White Savior" not realizing that Paul is the villian. The entire book series is a warning about 2 things, the shadows that pull the strings of power (Bene Gessirit), and the dangers of a charismatic leader.
I’ve had Dune:Part 1 on my DVR since 3/26/2022 when it premiered on HBO and was reluctant to watch it because I was a fan of Dune 1984 and was afraid it would be a letdown from Lynch’s Dune.
I FINALLY decided to watch it this morning and now I can’t wait to see Part 2 at my local IMAX theater. 👍
If we get Sicario Denis, instead of Blade Runner/Dune 1 Denis, it stands a chance to be a commercial success, and start a Nolan-lite ascent. I love cerebral sci-fi to death, but I don’t repeat view at the theater
Of course, I’m the type of person who thinks the first half of Lynch’s Dune is near perfect. It’s just the latter half that’s a wreck
It blows my mind people didnt like Dune P1. That movie was exactly what Star wars sequels should have been
Truer words have never been spoken
*The time finally arrived*
Buzz is great for this second Dune movie. Great to see a new generation of actors taking the forefront.
I'm a bit confused I thought Dune 2 covers the rest of the book till the end, since I don't want to spoiler anybody (though the book has been out for ages) at what point does this movie end? I wanted to go to the cinemas for this with my husban, but he said he won't go only for part of the story, he rather wait and watch it all in one go
So please help
Dune 2 is the second half of the first book. So you get a complete story between Dune and Dune Part 2.
I would definitely be seeing this in the theaters 🐛
Loved the review Grace! So excited to see the movie!
