  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty (India) versus Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang (China).
    Men's Doubles Final.
    Li-Ning China Masters 2023.
    Shenzhen-China, 26 November 2023.
This match was the fourth meeting between the two pairs in the World Tour Series. Both of them has similar fast-paced offensive style.
Regarding the delay tactic, actually the initial strategy for the doers (delay tactic users) was using a new shuttlecock for the rally, but their opponent didn’t comply. Brand new shuttlecock flies perfectly so the winning chances are bigger compared to using the old tattered shuttle.
Since the doers kept messing up their attacks, they need to buy time to calm themselves down and to come up with better attacks. Therefore, they used medical time out as an excuse to get out of the sticky situation.

Delay tactic is a legit tactic to get the doer out of a sticky situation by creating a disturbance to shake the opponent’s rhythm. Delay tactic is also used to buy some time when the doer(s) keep messing up, so they can calm themselves down. Unfortunately, it’s the opponents’ lost when they get upset or fall for the trick.
I usually point out thing(s) that I notice it’s affecting the flow of the match, whether it’s tactic, official’s verdict, player’s behavior, or player’s health issue.
Personally, I don’t mind with delay tactic as it’s an integral part of a winning strategy. But it’s worth mentioning since the players’ mental states before and after the tactic applied are different.
Furthermore, delay tactic is often used at a crucial time so the doer has greater chance to influence the match outcome when the doer successfully pulls the trick.

I dont see drop shots and fake smashes from the satwik/shetty.
Their smash is no doubt very powerful but their opponents are ready for it. Adding fake shots would make kill shot opportunities at the net.
