The unanswered questions yall have, and frankly everyone has, ARE the cliffhangers. It's not that they underutilized Baylan and Shin, it's just that they are setting up future plots, which personally doesn't bother me but obviously will bother others. Franchises such as Marvel have been doing this since the beginning. For me, this episode stuck the landing. It's revealed that Baylan is seeking out the Mortis Gods, for what purpose, we don't know yet. I would rather them setup future plots with cliffhangers rather than just rush everything to get a "satisfied ending" where everything is all tied up in a bow. They need to do it right.
While a season 2 hasnt officially been announced, I would imagine they will make a season 2 and/or have the Filoni movie continue the story.

    • @keithfranklin214
      @keithfranklin214 Год назад +20

Biggest problem with Mandalorian Season 3 was rushing to tie it all up in a bow. Ahsoka did just what I wanted it got us to a cliffhanger for Season 2 and reestablished Thrawn in the main galaxy. They couldnt just have everyone go to Periodia grab Thrawn and Ezra and head back. So much more Peridia story to tell in Season 2 with Ahsoka/Balone/Sabine/Shin. Just so unfortunate Ray Stevenson passed away, they couldnt have planned for that and will have to recast.

@@Fairburne69 Exactly what made Game of Thrones so good until the final season was it was taking its time. Then the show runners got tired of working on it and waiting for George RR Martin that they rushed the ending. Really feel Dave Filoni knows the story he wants to tell and we shouldnt demand a rush job. Season 1 got where he wanted to story to end for season 1. Looks like Season 2 will have 2 main threads. What is on Peridia with Baylon/Ahsoka/Shin/Sabine with Baylon and Shin relationship rocky and Ahsoka/Sabine relationship mended while at the same time Thrawn needs to consolidate the remaining Imperial forces and Hera/Ezra convincing the New Republic of the threat. Off to the side is what do the Nightsisters really want.

  • @keithfranklin214
    @keithfranklin214 Год назад +52

Balon and Shin story is much larger then an extra 15 minutes or so or even couple episodes would handle. Season 2 will have big focus on Balon/Ahsoka/Shin/Sabine experiences on Peridia while at the same time Thrawn and Hera building up forces while Nightsister make there separate plans. Balon and Mortis Gods is big cliffhanger. Unfortunately they have to recast Balon. They couldnt plan the season thinking Ray Stevenson would pass away.

I feel like this is the only Disney+ show between Star Wars and Marvel that I actually felt satisfied week to week. It didn’t feel like 8 parts of a long movie, the episodes felt like they had enough to stand on their own while still moving the overall story along.
I am sad that the story kind of just stops in the middle of the larger story, but when you think about where Sabine and Ahsoka were in the first episode verses the last, there really was a lot of growth. This spot makes sense for a stopping point.
I don’t have a problem with where the story ends for now, but I do have a problem with how long it takes to produce the seasons or shows. The next installment might not even happen for 2+ years, and I think that’s more detrimental than anything that actually happens in the episodes.

Funny... I enjoyed the series and there were some cool scenes and some lore and fanservice for sure.......
but I thought there was very little meat on the bones... 8 episodes and all we got was an exchange: Ezra for Ashoka, Sabine and Huyang...
Baylan and Shin were interesting yet totally unnecessary for the story and we never really found out anything about them... so It seemed like a big tease without any point or payout....
Thrawn has been eagerly awaited yet we didn't really get anything from him or even saw how brilliant a strategist he is.
Honestly I feel like they could have crammed all 8 episodes into one episode without missing anything important....
Feels like we got 8 trailers for an Ashoka movie that is not even made yet...
And yeah. They say it is all about the journey and not about the destination.... But this was a long journey and we didn't even get close to our destination it seems....

Comes down to who produces, who directs and who writes it.
For ashoka filoni mostly filled out those three spots with some eps is different directors but he maintains producing influence and his writing. So creative control in this show overall was locked down to him vs mandalorian got a whole slew of directors and writers which got sloppy on scenes played out and characters acted. Same for book of boba considering it got shafted a bit for being pretty much part mandalorian too.
Andor is was mostly contained too on scene direction and how characters acted. Despite its attention not that big it is well received among fans that want a more serious tone.

They also give them just enough time to spin up plot lines then they either have a bunch of cliff-hangers because they don't have time to resolve all the different plots or they end up rushing so fast to wrap them up in the final episodes that they feel shallow in the end.

I think Shin and Baylons stories were set up to continue in most likely season 2. So yeah it definitely doesn't have a firm ending and that's kind of the issue with having shows that are essentially used to set up "the next thing". And that's exactly how it feels. I’m sorry, but I just get tired of all the “Why didn’t they do more with Thrawn? Why didn’t they do more with Shin? Why didn’t they do more with Baylen?” This was a show about Ahsoka and her apprentice. If they spend all the time in each episode fully fleshing out the entire past, present and future of every side character then you’ll left saying “Why didn’t they do more with the title character Ahsoka?”
I really would have loved to see you guys focus more on what we did get instead of what you didn’t. Analyze what we saw and the implications of that.
I mean Holden… did you not recognize the homage in the title of the episode? I’ve gotten the impression you’re a big Christianity guy even though you generally keep that out of this channel (which I do appreciate). I’d have thought you’d be interested in talking a little bit about what we can draw from the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe reference and what implication that might have the characters and the story.
I guess just as you guys were left a little underwhelmed by the finale of this series… I was left a little disappointed and underwhelmed by your reaction to it.
All the best to you both though and I’ll still tune in next time.

They didn't make the season based around Ray Stevenson dying..... Ahsoka is where she needs to be because Baylon is going after something far more important than the empire returning. Baylon is on track to his goal, seemed like Shin is truly going rogue. She didn't go back to Thrawn to return to the home galaxy like Baylon told her, seems she might have felt abandoned and didn't want to hang out with Ahsoka. Still available for a redemption arc as they probably get harassed by them and then allies once Shin gets flipped. They introduced new characters, don't be upset that they didn't close out their stories right away. This felt like empire strikes back.

I have to say I really disagree with disney's reluctance to recast characters. The passing of Ray was tragic and its such a shame he never got to recieve any of the love for his expression of Baylan.
However, having to abandon or alter plots due to the passing of actors neither helps the plot or in my opinion, takes anything away from their legacy.
I personally don't believe these actors would want their characters to die with them but maybe I'm wrong. Whether the right or wrong decision, how they handled episode 9's Leia unfortunately was a detriment to its plot and I'd hate to see something similar happen with Baylan.
Rip Ray and Carrie, forever in our hearts and the force will be with you always ❤

I loved this episode it was great I loved that Thrawn got away that he was so calculated with his moves when he learned that Ashoka was Anakins apprentice because he knew Anakin during the clone wars and he knew Vader during the empire and he put the 2 together that Vader was Anakin. You guys should listen to the Thrawn books there great. Now with Baylon standing on the hand of the father looking into the distance following/searching what he was feeling in the force I lost my shit because my first thought was it’s the mother he’s searching for and what’s calling to him, look into Aboloth The mother it’s such a crazy character in Star Wars legends hopefully they can bring her into this version of Star Wars correctly. With Shin I felt a little disappointed that she was just going to join the bandits and not having a more rounded ending but they could do something interesting with her later on. Hopefully we get another season before Dave Filonis movie to give us more with these characters anyways I loved it I can’t wait to get more with these characters and I hope the recast Baylon so we can get more sad that Ray isn’t with us to see his character come to be loved and to see his story finished but he’s one with force now and the force is with him.

Overall a very good start for Season 1...as we know with Filoni, the first season usually sets things up so that next season can deliver on that even more, I hope we will get even more than we already have...who could have thought that one day we would have live action Thrawn

The complaints about Balon/Shin and the ending overall are very shortsighted. The show runners are clearly setting up a massive arc for season 2. You can’t have everything in one season. This is some of the best Star Wars we have gotten in decades and you’re shitting on it because you’re impatient. Not to mention Ray Stevenson is dead so that would have made things incredibly difficult for the show runners, the ending we got was probably the cleanest way of leaving things for now given the situation. There is another season and a movie on the way to continue the stories started in this series. It served its purpose by setting up those stories.

And the sister was on the other side if the father but she was missing her head. Symbolism for something I'm sure. Probably eluding to her death. Also, by ending the season where and how they did gives them some breathing room for figuring out how to deal with the loss of Ray and continuing the story/character. CGI? Recast? Unseen character death? There are always people out there that will find fault with whatever they decide.. unfortunately.

This is why I like you guys. You aren't afraid to be critical of something.
I tried to be positive of this series and thought the middle had some great moments. But this finale was not good and tainted all of it. It really reminded me structurally of The Walking Dead. I stayed with that show until Rick left and no matter how bad the season finales got and ended up being setup or letdowns, I stuck with it like a bad relationship hoping it would eventually pay off and it never did.
This was all setup. There were so many character choices that made no sense. It also used The Walking Deads tell not show a lot. Things like why Ahsoka wouldn't train Ahsoka were given a few lines of dialogue. So was what Ezra had been doing for the past 10 years and why he never tried attacking Thrawn.
Thrawn looked stupid. He had every chance to lift up to prevent a ground assault when he knew it was coming and didn't do it. There was no urgency from anyone. Ahsoka and crew are supposed to be rushing to Thrawn before he takes off and they are sitting over the crab people making for a really easy target just slowly moving.
Why was Hera in this series? She really didn't contribute anything. Baylan and Shins stories went nowhere and were left ambiguous. It wasn't satisfying after all that setup that really was interesting.
If I didn't know who Thrawn was, I don't know why I was supposed to be intimidated by him. His ship couldn't even take out three people on wolf creatures who were right below his Star Destroyer. I thought this would end in a huge ship battle that involved Hera and the new Republic that showed why Thrawn was a threat. That would have made the time wasted with Hera and the X Wing fighters pay off. Instead he gets off the planet and that's it. If he returned and immediately destroyed that starfleet, that would have been way more fulfilling.
It didn't go anywhere and I left it incredibly underwhelmed after it got my hopes up. Ahsoka is stranded and is acting like nothings wrong when they allowed that threat to escape.
It had so much potential and nose dove at the end.

Well, since they're planning more projects about what was set here, then Ahsoka and Sabine are absolutely where they need to be, hopefully to stop whatever Baylan is planning to do with that "higher power" he is seeking, it being related with the Mortis gods means high stakes as it is, but if it introduces Abeloth into canon as some are speculating, then Ahsoka is not only where she needs to be, she is where *everyone* needs her to be, if Abeloth is what Baylan is looking for and lets her loose, everything is pretty much lost.
Anyways, zombie troopers, back on Legends' they appeared on the novel "Death Troopers" even though they weren't related to magicks, however now in canon "Death Trooper" is the desination now given to those elite black-armored troopers (ironically giving us Death "Death Troopers"), but aside from that fun fact, you have seen magicks used to raise the dead before, when Grievous invaded Dathomir, that's how the Nightsisters tried to protect themselves, also in Jedi: Fallen Order, that's how Merrin attacks Cal when she suspects his intentions in Dathomir are... Violent.

He's got every other part for building a lightsaber in there.

My biggest gripe about the Ahsoka series is that it apparently tries hard to match Andor in terms of slow storytelling, with a mix of Mandalorian callbacks to familiar names and territory for fans to take hold of. But it falls short in a lot of places for me. By far the biggest 2 standouts is Baylon Skull, who is just the right amount of sympathetic bad guy, and Thrawns cold malice that matches his animated counterpart exactly. Makes me more sad we won't get to see more of Baylon.. just terrible tbh.
Ahsoka, Sabine, Ezra and Hera are all too flat for me. Too often they are just reading lines, not acting their character. Sabine especially just doesn't work for me, probably because she gets a lot of screentime, when her most appealing aspect from the animation was her Mandalorian link. Without that she feels very meh. Her best moment in this episode is when she matches jedi and mando skills. That's something that really make her unique. Ahsoka gets better, but is still pretty bland. And her and Hera's lekku are still a crime on physical props. Too stiff and artifical looking.
Morgan Elsbeth had potential, but she was clearly more an elder/wizard character than swordfighter.. They teased us with a magical upgrade for her, only to "nope, sorry. our magical mcguffin of choice is yet another sword with a important-sounding name, and we'll have you waste ur final moments in a swordfight you have never shown aptitude for, after giving you powers not at all related to physical fighting."
Ezra I'm.. torn about. I wanna like him, cuz the actor is cool. But I agree with Holden that anytime I'm looking at him I'm either thinking persian prince or Aladdin. Maybe once he cleans up a little he'll feel more like the animation.

I think Ezra's return is better than Ahsoka or Sabine's because now they have proof that Thrawn is back. The Senate still wouldn't believe Ahsoka or Sabine other wise.
It's a solid series, nothing spectacular. I noticed a problem with all of these SW series: they are too slow, which makes them unnatural. All of George Lucas SW, movies or shows, were very energetic. His primary directorial advice to the actors while shooting was "Faster, more intense", and while it has become a meme and it is funny, I find it very crucial to SW and movies in general. The D+ shows are very slow, with little emotion, wooden and they do not build enough tension.
Ahsoka was better than the others but it still has that drained feeling to it.
Ahsoka's character is too stoic, she doesn't have the warmth that she had in Rebels.
Sabine's actress was good, she brought some emotion and energy to many of her earlier scenes. She kind of fell of by the end but she still had good parts.
Lars Mikkelsen as Thrawn was the best part of the series alongside Hayden's return who once again crushed it.
