Ewen Mcgregor's daughter appeared in Kenobi. Keeping it in the family. His uncle Dennis Lawson played Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy and returned for a brief appearance in Rise Of Skywalker.
A little fun fact, we got a Shawshank reunion with Mark Rolston (The New Republic Captain) and Clancy Brown (Ryder Azadi) in this episode (Also these two have been prominent voices of Lex Luthor in so many things, and Mark is also the face and voice of Norman Osborn in Insomniac's Spider-Man games too.)
What an amazing premiere. I'm already really intrigued by Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati (named after the wolves Skoll and Hati of norse mythology). I love how much ferocity is in every single one of Shin's saber swings, while Baylan is very controlled and precise. But what I am most happy about is the return of Kevin Kiner as composer for the show. Kevin Kiner has previously been the composer for both TCW and Rebels, which means we're gonna get alot of thematic synergy with those shows, something we've already seen in episode 1. Besides Ahsoka's theme, which is obviously also incorporated into the show's main theme, we have so far also heard both Ezra and Sabine's themes, with the theme for Sabine being that beautiful melody they started using in season 3 when Kanan trained her to use the darksaber and obviously Ezra's theme is the one used ever since season 1 of Rebels. Edit: Mixed up the name of one of the wolves.
You mixed the name of the other wolf, it is not Shin, it is Skoll. Also yeah, Filoni's love/obsession with wolves point us that this is going to be pretty deep lore moment.
So far I am loving this show! RIP to Ray Stevenson, he is owning each scene he's in even though we've only seen him just a little bit. And Sabine was one of my favorite characters in Rebels and so far I'm really liking the live action version so I can't wait to see more!
This is right after her adventures in Mando S2/Fett - after that Din and Ahsoka go there separate ways and Mando does season 3 and Ahsoka does her season 1, some have said both shows are roughly the same time chronologically. Basically, she's doing this, he's doing that. No official statement of 'exactly' when though. We will know more as the series goes on.
I feel like they went a little bit harder on making this feel like a formal inclusion in the style of the movies specifically because Filoni is going to be directing the next Star Wars movie, which I’m betting money will be titled “Heir to the Empire” and feature the final confrontation with Thrawn.
I heard you say this takes place after Episode 6 (Return of the Jedi) and that's true but to be more specific it takes place after Ashoka's appearance in season 2 of the Mandalorian where she captured Morgan Elsbeth. It takes place about 10-15 years after the events of Rebels.

One thing I loved about these episodes was how Filoni and Green used silence to build the mood. When his Clone wars first aired, a lot of ppl accused Filoni of over relying on dialogue, unlike Genndy. It was genuinely great seeing Filoni take that criticism to heart and use silence.
"Sometimes even the right reasons have the wrong consequences" hits heavy because Ahsoka leaving Anakin and the Jedi Order might have been the final straw that broke the camels back that was Anakin turning to the Dark Side because Ahsoka wasn't there to keep him in the light. Imagine how much death and carnage might have been avoided even though. She was right to walk away from the Jedi Order but consequences were very dire.
OST so far amazing. In Dave we trust Edit: Many will mention this but anyway, don´t know if you noticed but the robot that is with ahsoka is David Tennants droid, he guides the younglings to make their lightsabers in the youngling arc of clone wars. Ahsoka takes'em to the ice Mountain so they can get their kyber crystals, and then they get attacked by Hondo.
More specifically the time period is right after the "Jedi" episode with Ashoka of season 2 Mandalorian. The Lady Morgan that was rescued at the begining of the show is the same woman Ashoka defeats at the end of that episode that fights her with the beskar spear.
I also love that Lucas and Filoni made the force even more mystical and ethereal than it was implied to be. Love the World Between Worlds and the Mortis trio. As you said: very fascinating.
The problem I have with it is that I think the Jedi and the Sith weren't explored enough. We get all these other things in the universe before we get a Jedi's journey in the old republic, creating lightsabers from scratch while they're on the run from a No Country For Old Men type assassin. There is plenty to explore with the Jedi and Sith (golden age of the sith) but they're just giving us peanuts on the side of a butter sandwich.
There's no depth to the content they've put on screen. At this point the force has basically become a crutch that they can use to get themselves out of a jam when their writing skills are not up to par.@@VonJay

The astromech driod that is in the ship that Sabine slides under with her speeder is modeled after the original R2-D2 Kenner action figure from the 70s.
Fun fact, the droid that flies with Ahsoka is the droid that had taught younglings how to build lightsabers for thousands of years if you remember the episodes from TCW about a group of younglings learning how to build their own lightsabers
The show takes place 10 years after a new hope or about 5-6 years after return of the Jedi. Also it takes place sometime during our after season 2 of Mando where we see Ahsoka fighting Morgan elsbeth
Fun fact, Clancy Brown wasn’t the only cast member to star in Ahsoka and The Shawshank Redemption. Captain Hayle (Mark Rolston) also played Boggs in Shawshank.
Holden, it's funny you said the symbol was of Norse religion The Master and Apprentice are named after the wolves that chase the sun and the moon through the sky in Norse mythology. Im guessing Ahsoka and Sabine are the sun and moon
And when Skoll and Hati catch the sun and moon... Ragnarök begins! One can only wonder the implications for that in the grand scheme of things. Another galaxy opens up a realm of possibilities and new threats. Threats that not even Thrawn knew (Yuuzhan Vong?)
Judging purely based on the sound that Ahsoka's lightsabers make when they hit the staff's I'm going to assume they're made of a Beskar alloy. They have the exact same sound that happens when Madalorian Beskar is hit by blasters or lightsabers. It's that quick metallic ring (or dinging sound).
I also love the mythical aspect of Star Wars! And I accept it even more since it came from the mind of George Lucas himself! He worked closely with all the story decisions in clone wars.
Just FYI: It doesn't "fall right after the Episode VI" - Mandalorian Season 3 is places in the year 11 ABY, and the events of Ahsoka are supposed to be happening immediately after it (or maybe even overlapping a bit) so same year, which places it 7 years after Episode VI
So far I'm really digging it. I think you are right on the female characters. Of course, the three we are familiar with are well established and Sabine still holds the role of the annoying kids that still needs lots of growth. Loving Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati. The actress for Shin Hati is convincing me that there is already some kind of conflict within her as she's trying to figure out the overall plan of her master.
It doesn't take place just after Episode VI. This is post "The Jedi" episode of The Mandalorian. Which was more than 15 years after the death of Palpatine.
Holden they changed the font color from yellow to red. Huyang (droid) is the one from clone wars who teaches the younglings how to make lightsaber( Episode were Hondo tried to kill Ahsoka and the younglings for the kyber crystal). The bad guys have orange lightsaber which clearly shows that they are neither Jedi nor Sith. I think this series will redefine what it is to be a Jedi and I am all for it. I thought this episode was slow but for people who has not watched Rebels might feel different.
3:09 and Ewan McGregor’s uncle is Denis Lawson who played Wedge (Red 2) in the original trilogy and Ewan’s daughter was in Obi-Wan with him. So Star Wars is a family affair for them. 4:54 and the first scene is like the movies where they start with a ship in space. An interesting fact is Dave Filoni decided not to have the Dark Jedi’s use pure red or pure orange sabers so like in Baylan’s case where his allegiance really lies. Is he with the light side or the dark side. Filoni always felt growing up with Star Wars that Vaders saber fluctuated between red and orange which I do kinda see some kind of color difference (I’m color blind but can figure some colors). 9:40 it was funny seeing Clancy Brown in this when he was in the Mandalorian as an alien named Burg. 10:18 that droid is taken from an early Kenner R2-D2 toy. They weren’t able to get the fine detail of R2 back then.
fun detail the two sith villains Baylen SKOLL and Shin HATI have the surnames from the norse wolf gods Skoll and Hati tasked with chasing the sun (skoll) during the morning and the moon at night (Hati)
Haven't seen Clone Wars or Rebels, but I am hooked on all the characters thus far (droids included) through episode 2, so Feloni did a great job of introducing them and their relationships and backstories without excruciating info dumps, while still building an intriguing story.
What's interesting is that Baylen's last name is Skoll and his apprentice's last name is Hati. This could be a reference to Skoll and Hati, two giant wolfs from Norse mythology. They were children of Fenrir and grandchildren of Loki. They chased the sun and the moon until Ragnarok.
Timeline for these two episodes would be right after Ahsokas appearance in Season 2 of the Mandalorian which if I’m correct is like 5 years after Return of the Jedi
I am still so freaking sad that Ray Stevenson who plays Balin Skoll and voices Gar Saxon in Clone Wars and Rebels died. He was such a great actor and even the short screentime he had at the moment. HE is sooooo amazing!

I love how Baylan Skoll is a great cosplay option now for us bearded burly guys lol. Too bad he passed away.
I'm so happy with how these 2 episodes started ahhhhh can't wait
The timeline is right after Ahsoka appears in the mandalorian. She captured Morgan elzbeth. Remember?
10aby roughly
There had better be Hondo in this series or we riot.
I was thinking the same about who the female apprentice looks like, and she really resembles Chloe Grace Moretz (Hit-Girl).
droid from clone wars, David Tennant
Making him the second Doctor with a connection to Rebels.
Huyang
Always great when an actor like Clancy Brown can play his animated character in live action.
Aliens, Highlander and Dr who all collided
Holden, it's funny you said the symbol was of Norse religion
The Master and Apprentice are named after the wolves that chase the sun and the moon through the sky in Norse mythology.
Im guessing Ahsoka and Sabine are the sun and moon
3 is important to Wicca. 9 is important to Norse Mythology
@@bemasaberwyn55 cool
@@bemasaberwyn55 I wonder how many women spent half their lives pregnant trying to make a 9th son lol
And when Skoll and Hati catch the sun and moon...
Ragnarök begins! One can only wonder the implications for that in the grand scheme of things.
Another galaxy opens up a realm of possibilities and new threats. Threats that not even Thrawn knew (Yuuzhan Vong?)
Soooo excited to watch this series with you two 😊
the whole planet is watching Ahsoka for the first time my friend, it's a new show 0_0
Been waiting on this reaction. Thank you.
The dark Jedi in this episode really give me feelings of the High Republic or even the Old Republic and I love it so much
Judging purely based on the sound that Ahsoka's lightsabers make when they hit the staff's I'm going to assume they're made of a Beskar alloy.
Great seeing Mark Rolston, another Aliens cast member after Michael Biehn coming to Star Wars.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a Star Trek feel at the start of this.
Oh yeah it's all coming to together nicely
the speeder bike Sabine is riding is based on original Star Wars concept art by Ralph McQuarrie
Rip ray Stevenson! You gave an amazing performance as balon
Stevenson. Ray Stevens is a countyr/comedy musician (and still alive, as far as I know).
Does he know?
So far I'm really digging it. I think you are right on the female characters. Of course, the three we are familiar with are well established and Sabine still holds the role of the annoying kids that still needs lots of growth. Loving Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati. The actress for Shin Hati is convincing me that there is already some kind of conflict within her as she's trying to figure out the overall plan of her master.
It doesn't take place just after Episode VI. This is post "The Jedi" episode of The Mandalorian. Which was more than 15 years after the death of Palpatine.
also love the credits. the map shows uncharted galaxies which opens up a whole new section of star wars lore to explore in.
11:12 ...."night sisters"
they be like: oooooooooooo!!!!!!
The two antagonists, Baylon Skoll and Shin Hati, are a reference to Skoll and Hati from norse mythology, the two wolves that hunt the Sun and the Moon
9:47 you may also know Clancy Brown - the older gentleman - as the voice of Savage Oppress in The Clone Wars
The timeline (like the Mandalorian) is three years after the Battle of Endor.
The saber scenes remind me of how I visualized Bane and his apprentice in the books.
Haven't seen Clone Wars or Rebels, but I am hooked on all the characters thus far (droids included) through episode 2, so Feloni did a great job of introducing them and their relationships and backstories without excruciating info dumps, while still building an intriguing story.
This takes place at the same time as Boba Fett and Mando. Considering Morgan Elsbeth was defeated/captured by Ahsoka in Mando S2
Loth Cat supremacy
As a major rebels fan (best star wars completed story) I'm so fking happy that this basically rebels continued.
I am still so freaking sad that Ray Stevenson who plays Balin Skoll and voices Gar Saxon in Clone Wars and Rebels died.
He was such a great actor and even the short screentime he had at the moment. HE is sooooo amazing!
