My wife and I did it. We were somewhat slow, starting and stopping the video moving very slowly watching it several times. It turned out great. I used the worshed 20 oz cloth. played my first game on it today. I think the rails were the hardest and I think mine looked better then the videos. OK maybe. Thanks for your instructional video, no way could I have done this on my own. you are awesome sharing your knowledge.

I was quoted $700 to level and re felt my pool table. I offered them $500 cash thinking that was enough money but it wasn’t so I did it myself. The company that put it together the 1st time used bondo on the seems so other videos helped with that, but this was the most helpful. Thank you.

Thank you very much for the time and effort in making this and the other video tutorials. Just finished the process of my first assembly up to beginning to install felt now. Without your videos, would never have been able to get to this point at the quality desired. Have been learning lots of added tips and tricks on final leveling after 0 degrees on the digital level by slow rolling a ball on the slates, and techniques of getting super flat beeswax on cracks and filling holes (level) with beeswax. Your videos gave me the confidence to attack the project with my Olehausen. The pocket finishing is something prior installers never did and it will look far better than the pros who left ugly cuts visible in the pockets of my last table.
That's great to hear! Really good to know that we've helped you out along the way with you install, and hope everything went nice and smoothly for you! Yes, the pocket finishing is something that is overlooked a lot (even by professional installers, as you mentioned, most likely due to time factors) but it does make such a big difference to the overall look inside the pockets - those cuts always look terrible (ironically, somehwhat unfinished in appearance, lol!) Thanks again :-)

Followed your instructions and just finished refelting my table. The job included replacing the bumpers and took me 4 days to finish. I think the hardest part was the bump work and your instruction were very helpful.

Thanks for the great video series. There are lots of other youtube pool table rebuild videos but none hold a candle to this series. I had no choice but to rebuild my table myself as I am hundreds of km from the nearest pro, so travel cost alone would have tripled the cost of a my rebulid.

Great video... one suggestion. I always leave some clorh overhang around the table so I can come back at some point and restretch the cloth.
Leaving some overhang by not trimming it off allows you to grab the cloth for basically reinstalling the cloth to tighten it. By trimming the cloth, there is not enough the do a good re-stretch job.
Many players like fast worn cloth.

Thank you for your comment! Just to clear up any confusion, we are currently putting together a newer and more advanced version of our cloth installation video, which will utilise the stretch index method. The stretch index can be very helpful when you are fitting high-end worsted cloths that have very little give (such as Simonis) as they can be very unforgiving.
The new more advanced video is NOT designed to be a replacement for our original cloth installation video. Instead it is designed for people who want to delve a little deeper and/or are installing cloths such as Simonis.
It's likely that 80%+ of cloth installations done on pool tables are done without utilising a cloth stretch index method, by a process identical or similar to the process shown in our original video, so it will remain relevant to the majority of people who want to do a DIY cloth install.
But if you are installing Simonis (or similar top-end worsted cloths) then the new more advanced video (which uses stretch index) would definitely be a good option.
The process is slightly different if using the Stretch Index method, simply because it HAS to be due to the requirements of the process. But you can use either method, original or advanced. They both work!

I have installed based on this video and the cloth turned out really good. The middle pockets were heart wrenching. I have noticed that there is a small amount of slack around the middle pockets area. Nothing disastrous, but there are some waves there when you run a pushed finger around the area.
Any advice for getting rid of that. IE, I would need to move one staple at a time to make any corrections to get rid of it, but which ones. From the table sides or directly below where ripples are on the curve of the pocket?
Yes, the centre pockets are probably the worst part o fthe job as you are dealing with a 180 degree curve rather than 90 on the corners. Hard to know the best solution without seeing it first-hand, but the important thing is to remember that the cloth is pulled in various directions during installation, so you need to be careful removing any staples, and don't remove too many at a time. It may be worth carefully removing a couple from the centre of the pocket on both sides (get someone to help) and try pulling the two centres out and see if this gets rid of the ripples. If not, it is likely another angle causing the issue. Worst case you should be able to remove all of the staples from inside the centre pocket and pull from various directions to see where the issue lies. Once you have found it, you could also try some spray glue carefully underneath the trouble area to help stick that down as you recorrect the tension. It's one of those PINA jobs where you have to play around with it a little, but being careful not to release too much tension anywhere as you may not be able to replicate that tensioin again (well, not easily!). Hope that's of some help!

Hey there! Thank you, glad you are enjoying our video's!! With regards to cloth, budget is always a factor. Pretty much the best of the best is Simonis cloth, but it does (naturally) come with a higher price tag. We have added links to several cheaper options on Amazon (including amazon.ca!) into the video description if the budget is tight. Yes, cloth reviews often vary from great to terrible, and this often seems to be linked to the experience that the person had fitting the cloth rather than the cloth quality itself. On cheaper cloths expect ball marks (burns, white spotting). You get them on expensive cloths too, but they tend to be more resilient (Simonis make a 860HR cloth and the HR stands for High Resistance, designed specifically to reduce white spotting). Hope that's of some help!!

The playing surface is smoother, whereas the rear will look a touch fluffier. Is it better to order felt to be more then you need so it's not as short when doing the other side?? Like ordering for a table that is a foot bigger, atleast then you can trim afterwards if needed
Yes, absolutely. However, when it comes to more expensive cloths the difference in price to go up by one size can be considerable and so not always practical cost-wise. But for more budget-orientated cloths the price difference would not be massive, and so it's a option definitely to be considered!

I'm about to do my first recover. I have seen other videos where they start from the middle pockets and stretch, work their way out to the corners. So which is best - end-to-end as you show or center out to corners? I'm sure there is more than one way to skin the cat. I'm just looking for best practice so I only do this once.

No, the cloth should not need ironing (and should never be ironed on the table). Any fold marks will definitely stretch out during installation so there's no need to try and iron them out beforehand. Hope that helps!

My table is 1" 2 peice slate but it dont have the wood strips under the outter bottom edges to staple the cloth too? Has someone removed them? My last cover I had to glue on with clamps..should I put the wood strips on it?
Yes, not all pool tables will have the slate backing. Most do, but not all. The other method for re-clothing is gluing instead of stapling, which it would seem the manufacturer of your table intended. The process is different though, and unfortunately we do not have a video for the gluing method so you'd have to have a good search around RUclips and see what's out there. I would recommend against adding the timber backing retrospectively as this throw up issues such as overall table bed height, the skirts may not be long enough to hide the slate edges anymore when raised etc. We hope you find a good guide for gluing. I have a question. One of my shims has moved from under the slate and caused it to droop some and come out of level in one corner. Are you able to partially lift some of the felt, enough to relevel the slate, then just retighten it and staple again or do you need to redo the entire piece of felt?
Well, once out of alignment it should be levelled again really. You could try to re-shim just the part where the old shim failed, but you're unlikely to get it perfect, and the seam may well have cracked it's beeswax seal due to the drop. But if you do want to try it and see, you should not need to remove the cloth at all to level the slate. The slate should have timber backing (which you staple in to) like in this video. The shims go underneath this timber frame, so sit between the table frame and slate timber frame. So you should not need to remove any part of the cloth if you want to try and re-shim as a quick fix to see you through. But really you'll want to level up the slates afresh, which means cloth removal and re-sealing the seams. But for a quick temporary fix you could try it. Hope that helps!

Do you fill in the holes on the slate near the edges or just cover them as they will be under the cushions?
No need to fill any holes that will be under the rails. If the ball can't touch the hole, then you don't need to fill it. Hope that helps!

Are heading protecting required?
Do you mean ear protectors? It depends on your preference. I always wear them whilst using power or air tool of all kinds, and in the location of this table the ceilings are quite low and no soft furnishings and so you get a lot of noise. But most people are happy to use air staplers without ear protection, whatever you prefer personally 👍
I just got Predator Acadia select cloth. There are some creases where the cloth was folded. The corners are somewhat pronounced wrinkles. I'm very much wanting to iron these out.
A little research says low heat is safe. Should I? Is it necessary? They are much more pronounced than what I see here.
Hey Brett! Well because the cloth is going to be stretched a fair bit it's unlikley that those creases/wrinkles will still be there during installation. You should be able to iron them out on low heat if you prefer, just keep it low heat and keep the iron moving. But it likle;y won't be required. Hope that helps!

You can leave your compressor on the standard default. No need to adjust for the stapler. Hope that helps!
One thing to mention perhaps is cutting the cloth for the rails if your cloth comes all 1 piece.
Mine was just barely enough and I wasn't super careful to keep the max I could now I am short enough clith to do 1 rail. Shieks.
Yes, cutting the cloth yourself can be troublesome which is why we recommend to set a cloth that comes with the rails pre-cut whever possible as it saves a lot of extra hassle and possibility of mistakes. Cloth manufacturers can be very stingy, and so there is usually next to zero extra so you have to be accurate with the measurements and cutting. Sorry to hear that you mis-cut - that's a nightmare! Especially as you cannot usually just order one rail cloth, you usually have to re-order a full second set and that's costly!!! It may be worth contacting the manufacturer, maybe they can help you out. Best of luck!

Nothing is working to get the wrinkles out around the side pockets. We have Predator cloth. Any advice?!?!
Hey there! Usually if you find you are repeatedly getting wrinkles whilst you're confident you are doing everything right, it can be best to rewind a little. The cloth may not be stretched quite right in a certain direction before you got to the side pockets. If you undo a few staples at a time you'll be able to pull the cloth slightly more in that area and see if it makes the wrinkles disappear or get worse. The pull may be required at an angle you would not expect, hard to know without having it in front of you. But that would be a good route to take, try and find the source of the issue rather than fighting against something that's not quite right. Hope this helps!!

Do you have steps for recovering using simonis cloth?
much less stretch with simonis. requires strong hands lol. Other than that it's the same. Covering a table with cloth that has a nap (like snooker cloth) takes a slightly more precise technique as it tears very easily.
The basic principal is the same. Simonis tends to have very little strech to it so a couple of extra tools including a pair of canvas stretcher pliers come in very useful (we did the one if this video by hand as the most DIY-orientated way as that would be most applicable to most viewers). We may do a seperate dedicated Simonis installation video in the future if we get enough support, but for the most part the basic principal is the same. Hope that helps!
Cloth developed wrinkles around the center pocket after the holes where cut into the cloth.........did not appear right away but the hole looked distorted after cutting...........I used nail polish to finish the cut around the hole...........I cut the holes by inserting a tube into the bolt holes and hampering on the tube with a hammer to cut the cloth..........what is the best way to fix this? thanks
My guess would be that by hammering the tube into the hole to cut the cloth you would have stretched the cloth, hence the hole now looks distorted. The holes should be cut with a knife or scissors. The only way to fix this would be to see if you could re-stretch the cloth a little by undoing the staples one area at a time and taking up the slack. And then re-cutting the holes but this time with a knife or scissors. Not a hammer and tube. Hope that helps! 👍

Clarification, I did not stretch the cloth to cut the hole, the process is similar to die cutting where the cutting surface the sharp inside diameter of a tube is held against the bottom of the cloth and does not stretch or raise it off the surface of the slate and then a ball peen hammer ball end is used to lightly strike the cloth pinching and cutting the cloth against the sharp inner edge of the tube thereby cutting the fibers very easily. Forms a near perfect hole in the cloth slightly smaller in diameter than the hole itself since the tubing is inside the hole and fits tightly. I assumed that cutting the hole with a knife and scissors would cut all the fibers around the hole similar to the way the die cutting works and if so then I would expect similar problems with the knife and scissors method. I'm thinking I could have super glued (or glued) the cloth to the slate around the hole prior to cutting the hole. I also discovered that the wrinkles are coming and going away with temperature. It is currently start to drop from the 70's F to the 50's F. Thanks for your prompt reply and excellent video. @@AverageJoesPool

1. If the slate has wood underneath use tac nails, staples are horrible and look awful on a pool table.
2. If the slate has no wood then use a approved adhesive glue for the felt and slate.
Actually you don't see the staples at all once the table is back together with the panels/trims installed so cosmetics is not an issue for staples. Hope that helps !

So you eont need a 3M spray glue at any point?
Not for the staple installation method. There is a glue method where the cloth is glued rather than stapled. Spray glue is usually used on the pocket liners though (link to that video is in the video description on this video!) Hope that helps!

I have cheap sportcraft pool that i took appart to refelt the sides and the top well after cleaning railsand removing old felt from one of the sides i have come to conclusion that my sided dont have removable trim piece that holds felt in place looks like the whole thing was put together in pieces and stapled and glued and not meant to be changed just use and discard i believe , on the other hand i could be wrong which im hoping i am so please if someone has done one of these shed some light
I've never worked (or played) on a Sportcraft table. Are they slate top, or wood? A lot of the cheaper wood tables are indeed often glued and stapled and not really meant to be 'maintained' ongoing (or to really last he test of time). Hopefully someone reading will have experience of Sportscraft tables?

Call me pops. I have the same sportscraft table. How did you job turn out? Were you able to refelt the table since it is not slate just wood underneath? I was thinking about refelting but now now I think the table is not worth the felt. Let me know. Thanks

@@jarespeoples554 go for it it turned out awesome, i got new pockets old ones were so fragile that brackets broke off so i replaced those , they are not same you will have to do some modification on the table to fit it you will see once you get to that stage you will know what to do once you get there it does take a long time but i was determined to finish it so if you are same as me in that field than i say go for it i went from having 200$ table looking like 3000$ one i even aded neon strip lights that i put under the edges that are battery operated i was able to tuck it all under so none if it visible only the light glow shows not to mention i crushed my table sides when i was loading it on the truck so i had to do some bondo work on the pannels even after all that turned up awesome wish i can upload photos of it so i can show you

Hi there, could I just ask your expert opinion? I have just bought an 8ft snooker table from a company here in Sweden. They class it as a pool table but it is exactly the same as an English snooker table.It comes with 6 legs and 3 slates,4cm thick. I have bought an 9ft table from china in 2011 , so have some experience with these tables. Now this 8ft to my surprise has no screw holes on top,to screw all those wood pieces on, for stapling the cloth. This to me is weird, there are no videos on youtube where you don't have holes on the snooker tables. So there is no holes to even keep the slates screwed down. Also, the slate looks more like a type of marble and the two slates are different looking to the other one,and one is a bit smoother. I am complaining about this to the company, I don't think they have forgotten to include all the wood bits for the edges of the slate underneath obviously. I am sure their thinking is that the cloth is to be glued on, like most pool tables nowadays. But to not have screw holes to keep the slate from moving, seems a bit ridiculous.. I will glue a bit of paper with superglue on the seems,but do you think I should just use silicone under the slates to stop them from moving. I want to use the stapling method for stretching the cloth and am not going to glue it down. Was thinking of getting the wood strips and gluing it all underneath, should work. Have you seen tables with no screw holes? Kind regard Kevin
That does sounds very odd! The slates must be attached to the base frame in some way, hence they usually have the screw holes so they can be screwed directly on to the base frame. And the three slates should definitely not be made from different materials - none of that sounds good!!! You should ask the manufacturer how the slates attach to the base frame and see what they say. Yes, you should be able to attach timber to the underside of the slates (using a good construction adhestive) if you want to do stapling, but this will raise the height of the slates above the base frame and so it may no longer fit the additional decorative trims as it should. Sounds like a nightmare TBH!!! Best of luck!
@@AverageJoesPool All sorted, Yes very odd no screw holes on 3 piece slates. I have glued wood all around the slate, so l could staple. So now the slates can not move and all more secure when all cushions are screwed on also. As a 3rd precaution ,used a strong silicon underneath that will also hold the slates onto the frame and stop it all from moving. Not as good as being screwed down, but is working fine. One of the slates that was a different type, has not made any difference. I had complained about everything and got 40% off the price.
