    The saying goes "Doing the same thing *expecting* different results is the definition of insanity."
    But trying the same thing a few times to *validate* your original result is just being a good scientist.
    Never be discouraged if something doesn't work. Never feel foolish for double- or triple-checking your original hypothesis.
    Edit: That said I don't think I've ever seen someone try to sword-only Bongo Bongo.😄

    • @spamwise249
      @spamwise249 2 месяца назад +2

      Even in science you should expect different results, or at least be looking for them. To do it solely for validation leads to confirmation bias.
      Not to mention when applied to anything skill based just invalidates the concept of practice.
      It's a bad phrase and shouldn't be applied to anything other than things like putting your hand in a fire :D

    I know on a conceptual basis Bongo Bongo is really silly, but there's something really creepy about his design and weird humming he does. Lore implications are quite cool as well, and if I remember correctly, one of the theories I used to love was that it was an executed person due to how he looks, almost like it's a hanging body with no head and arms. Definitely one of my favourites.

    • @Niko__01
      @Niko__01 2 месяца назад +15

      I don't think he is that silly, conceptually.
      What bongo bongo is, is a man (turned ghost or whatever) who was hung upside-down, hands chopped off, and then decapitated. Note, his hands are not attached to him, and he has no head. his "eye" is at his neck, where it appears the skin is frayed off... as if his head was cut off, and his eye was put there (probably after death, as a ghost)... This boss was tortured and killed in the shadow temple. I don't think that's conceptually silly.
      I know you said most of what I said already, but it's not a theory. It's a concept and design. The theory is only why he looks like that. He literally is missing a head and his hands are not attached, and he is hanging from where his feet should be. He is a shadowy specter/ghost. None of this is theory. It is concept and design. They don't tell you why he looks like that to let you fill in the blanks... it's a bit too much for kids, but adults could easily fill in those blanks, especially with the overall themes of the shadow temple.

    • @richardheath8516
      @richardheath8516 2 месяца назад +3

      Personally I think he was tortured/executed/punished because he had the lens of truth and it was considered illegal magic use in Hyrule so that's how he was in the well and the Shadow Temple

    What can one say about the Shadow Temple? It is damp and it is dark. It is creepy and it's kooky, mysterious and spooky. It's also got a wickedly well designed atmosphere and a lore that is very interesting once you start thinking about the implications. I also find it to be the Temple that "breaks" with the established patterns of design that you have seen in most places so far. Giving you the map/compass/dungeon item trifecta right at the start just makes the Shadow Temple feel very different from... say the Water Temple. Where the path, for all that it can appear to be a confusing mess, is actually very linear. Getting the Longshot is what opens up the Temple and allows you to really explore the nooks and crannies. The Shadow Temple in comparison, requires the Hover Boots from the very first room you get to. Making the Temple itself more into a gauntlet of "which item(s) that I have can help me in this situation?" Personally I find that this is a nice change of pace in many ways.
    One example of this would be the fan sections, where you can (as you did) time your runs and stop your backwards momentum with the level geometry. Or you can plonk on the Iron Boots and just ignore the wind entirely. Which of course adds another complication in the form of those spiked contraptions sliding back and forth. Basically a pros/cons analysis and the game telling you "time to put together all that you have learned so far" which can be frustrating for a lot of people.
    Quickly referring back to "optional acquisitions" that I mentioned in previous comments... turns out Din's Fire isn't optional after all! Imagine that; a single line from Darunia after Dodongo's Cavern, leading to a place you don't HAVE to explore in order to progress the story at that point, becomes relevant four dungeons later! Lighting the entry torches, burning flimsy, wooden walls! OoT does not pull its punches in that regard. Which, honestly, I appreciate. Modern games have a little too much of the "Hey! Go there! [Important Item] needed!" aspect to them for my tastes. It is nice having to actually use your brain with minimal context clues as reference.
    Will add my voice to what I presume is countless comments applauding you for beating Bongo Bongo on hard mode. The Hover Boots do not make that fight easier ☺ Lack of traction can cause all kinds of problems. And with sword only on the hands for the first half or so... you madlad!
    Impa, Sage of Shadow has been awakened... now where the heck is that Princess... and no Gannondorf either...

    I love how cheerful the Shadow Temple is with its cute little bouncing bird boat that rings its jolly little bells. When constructing the Shadow Temple they must have realized that the wood spikes protecting the Boss Key would eventually rot away so they must have placed a protective enchantment on the spikes which is why the bomb didn't work but Din's Fire does because its Magical Flames.

    Hey folks, new viewer here, really enjoying myself, both the commentary and gameplay are extremely entertaining, it's so nuts seeing someone play a game like this fully blind, I have one question through; Is Mapo the type of person that 100% the games he plays? I'm asking since it would be a little unfortunate if he misses out on some of the more hidden items, and he's really playing through the game quite fast, so I'm a bit afraid that he's going to beat the game without even getting every item in the inventory slots (stuff like getting every Heart Piece and Gold Skulltulas would be insane for a blind player, so totally understandable if he misses those)

    1:37:53 Okay I'll admit, I have never seen someone melee Bongo Bongo before. What a flex. It's certainly an interesting boss to encounter after two dungeons full of dead things, blood on the floor, torture chambers, and traps. Fighting a creature with disembodied hands is a Nintendo staple, sure, but a beheaded hanged man playing a bongo is unique.
    All in all I find the Well and the Shadow Temple to be really interesting, as it adds just tiny flecks of gray to this fairly standard heroic fantasy tale. Hyrules bloody history... (rhetorical) do they mean the citizens, the crown, the enemies? Was Impa, as founder of Kakariko and Shadow Sage, aware? Is this a Sheikah thing? It's a nice little thing to noodle and write about that's pretty exclusive to this game.

    1:08:45 for the most part the Song of Time actually DOES NOT transport blocks from point A to point B but rather from point A (in the past) to point a A (in the future). You normally would not witness this as most places that have Song of Time blocks in then you either can not access in the past or can not access in the future so it is unlikely you would ever make the observation in normal play. Players have been able to confirm that most blocks are traveling through time though some do just change physical locations.
    This might answer your question you posed earlier on in your playthrough as to why the hell would the Song of ‘Time’ be used to move blocks.

    I think we can safely say the Shadow Temple is not Mapo's favorite. I think a good chunk of it had to do with very conservative use of the Lens of Truth. I can relate, 'what if I REALLY' need the magic later on' :p.
    I don't think the magic meter ever dropped below half, this is not a wasteful man. But it did make it much less likely to stumble upon the hidden objects, platforms, etc.
    To be fair, there were earlier periods where the dungeon pots and enemies basically never dropped magic refills. But the Shadow Temple thankfully throws them at you all the time.
    Oh yeah another chunk had to do with constantly subjecting yourself to everyone's favorite mechanic: ice physics. Those boots might look cool but they're a pain to traverse on.

    Re: 1:10:58 to be fair, had you placed that block in its final resting place before leaving the room that area would have remained open as a quick shortcut from the dungeon entrance to the ferry. The problem is, the game was only programmed with two scenarios, a) the block spawns at its point of origin or b) the block has been moved to the location in which you need to move it in order to progress. Moving it to the place it needs to be in order for you to progress sets a flag in memory that any time you leave the room and then renter (I.e., the room is reloaded), the block is in that location rather than at its origin point. If you have not done the steps in order for that flag to be set and saved to memory, the block will always spawn at its origin point blocking progress to the ferry. Technically the programmers could have programmed a flag that leaves a small gap if you move the block just enough to get to the emergency exit back up to B2, but that could likely have lead to more bugs in the code that would have needed to be sorted out or might not have been something the programmers anticipated the players doing and so never programmed it that way.

    Actually, the Bongo Bongo monster is very suitable for the dungeon.
    Remember that this dungeon is the "shadow" dungeon and it refers to the dead. All of the monsters in this area (except for the Skulltulas) are dead but re-animated. So, someone is using dark (shadow) magic to re-animate the dead.
    Where have you seen this scenario before? Most commonly known in African tribes and they mostly use bongos.
    Perfectly fitting!!

    I believe you're not summoning bricks out of thin air, but instead you're moving them back and forth in time. It was going to be a feature where a block you sent back or forth would be there after time travel but eventually it was too bothersome of a mechanic, but they kept the fact that bricks "appear and disappear" for puzzle reasons, that's why you use the Song of Time for that.
