Ranma is a boy that was cursed in a hot spring in China that whenever he is thrown in cold water he becomes a girl. And a boy when it's hot. It's a very unique show with multiple plot twists. Lots of humor but overall the plot and the characters are enjoyable.
Well Ranma 1/2 is a classic among classic, but xhat else can you expect from the emperess of manga, Rumiko Takahashi herself ? Basicallly, the series is a slice of life romantic comedy with a touch of martial art. Ranma is the heir to his family dojo and meant to married Akane, the youngest daughter (his age) of his father's friend family dojo. But on a trip to China, he and his father fell into cursed pound of water that change their appereance in contact to cold water (and hot water bring them back). So, when Ranma and Akane first met, he was a girl and it started pretty nicely. But she soon learned the truth and couldn't bare being beaten in martial art by a boy. Ranma is very arrogant and dismissive of Akane's feeling while she's a very strong and active girl. But as they learn to live together, they learn to be more vulnerable around the other and appreciate their time together. However, in Rumiko Takahasi fashion, more love interest start to appear for both of them : Shampoo, a chinese girl who wanted to kill him but now wants to marry him, Ukyo, a childhood friend he never knew was a girl, Ranma's father promising her father they would get married so he wouldn't have to pay his debts, Kodashi, a girl from another school obssessed with Ranma... And in turn, this bring male characters jealous of Ranma, like Mouse, Shampoo's friend, Ryoga, a rival from Ranma's childhood who end up loving Akane, Kuno, Kodashi's brother, obsessed with Ranma's girl version and who love Akane... And most of them can also change appearances due to the same cursed pounds so it's a lot of fun. On the other hand, the manga do question gender but as a all. Ranma being a guy doesn't have a problem using his feminine traits when necessary. He rarely question if he can be a girl at heart, he feels very much like a boy and mostly dislike having that curse to begin with. Especially when it brings more creep in his life. However, it's by being a girl that he can be closer to his mom. Basically, his father took Ranma away when he was little to make him a real man and promise his wife they will kill themself if they don't succeed. Now, Ranma is avoiding her the best he can to not disapoint her while seeking that connection he never had. I grew up reading the manga so it has a speacial place in my heart. Opening 2 is my favorite.
Beso, the story has some good themes going on. Interesting, I would see this and it was one of those shows that I watched if there wasn't anything better on and more often if it was the best on id just go outside. Obviously romance themes were not my thing especially at a young age.
Yup that a boy th/at turn into a girl when he got some cold water on him. Same for the panda, that a dude that turn into a panda in the same way and there can get back to normal if there got some hot water on them, if my memories are good... kinda watch this a looooong time ago. x'D This anime came in around 1990 and got over 150 episodes, I think. lol The creator of Ranma kinda good to start new era/thing of anime... He create InuYasha too, that was one of the first "travel to a other world/time" anime. lol This anime was just something like any other anime for me... was too young to understand the LBGT thing when I watch this, was only around 9-10 years. lol
@@naoschan2299 the anime never got to the end of the manga and i would describe the series as a comedy martial arts mixed with slice of life elements. From what i heard the manga gets a bit more "serious" towards the end with more emphasis on martial arts and an actual villains as most of it is just male to female hijinks and wacky characters mixed with some fight scenes with very little actual plot. So the series is very light hearted outside of a few story arcs that the anime never got to.
@@Waluigiisbest99 Oh I see, never read the manga (manga kinda was hard to find in those time where I live, not like today. lol) but that cool to know !
@@naoschan2299 ranma and his dad train in a hot spring of curses that curses him to be a girl and his dad to be a panda his rival is very directionally challenged but is trying to track him down because he thinks ranma cursed him to be a black piglet shampoo likes him/wants to kill him and she turns into a cat moose likes shampoo and can turn into a goose
The original series lasted for 143 episodes with an open ended ending (no spoilers intended), it spawned 12 OVA series that is semi-canon to the main series, and 2 movies that is semi-canon again to the main series. I grew up watching the show and it is just plain humor and funny plot twists for all the characters, I watched the english dubbed version of the series because it contains some funny yet "vulgar" dialogues, It is an entertaining series back then.
@@dashingkevs3295 it may still appeal to the older fans like me and for those who grew up watching the series, fans back then don't take anything serious on the show, just plain entertainment on the (mis)adventures on the life of Ranma and his/her fiances', admirer's, stalkers, rivals, it is a clear cut anime romcom series with some echii moments, especially with old Happosai in the series....start watching the old series in the English dub, it will grow on you.
I would say the LGTB part is always the same as ever, forced on by fans, and not present on the actual content, the actual show is just the opposite, Ranma is the straightest guy ever , the best fighter and followed by all the girls, which is what makes the show interesting since now he has to deal with becoming the opposite sex when splashed by cold water, which is the main plot of the show, and is basically just that a romantic comedy about fighting and dealing with characters that suffer from different curses.

Saying this anime “started the lgbt” is a WILD statement to make. As is the constant wondering about if he has “one tip” whatever the heck that means…
Beso, it was meant as a joke. Basically friends told me it's a slice of life about a boy with 1 boob
