Best explanation I have found. Lots of reviews and suggestions but nobody wants to really commit to an answer on what a good single or first pick should be.
From a beginners perspective I used the DAS6 Pro and that to me is perfect. I used it on my fiesta which had soft faded paint and the colour and depth came out after compounding it. Removed just about all scratches. I didn't have a problem changing the backing plates. Probably might say to start with the pillars as you'll have a bit of strength to keep the machine in place with the smaller pads. The machine slipped off the pillar and I'm not sure if I marked it.
I set the speed at 1 to spread the product then I found speed 3 to be adequate on the soft paint with me only having to make 2 or 3 passes.

Great video as always! One thing you forgot to mention is that the DeWalt has the ability to go slower than 600rpm if you don't go full throttle on the trigger. So you can spread the product around first without slinging it. It does take a bit of finesse 👍

Ive been doing paint mopping / restoration for about the last 4years. Only as a home hobby for our cars, and maybe the odd friends car. Ive been watching WhiteDetails over the years so have learned alot from Jim. Ive just sold my Rotary and now moved to a DA. The main reason is there is less chance to burn the paint with a DA, which is a worry when your a home novice. Also i found the rotary would just fling product all over the place. Even though i only use a few dabs on the pad for each section im working on. I would occasionally use a water mister on the panel if the product was drying out. But with a rotary this means you just get covered. A few years of doing that and the novelty has worn off. The DA is a revelation for me in its performance and the results given.
I've owned a porter cable 7424 (original) for over ten years, it's still working fine and it was great to see Jim from white details using his last year when he took on Terry, question? - what would you recommend as a second polisher alongside my PC, I have an audi with paint like marble. Thanks
Great video. I was going to purchase Krauss - ShineMaster S21. I'm in detailing work several years but recently have decided to take the plunge into machine polishing. Would you say this is a good polisher to start with?
Well I took delivery of my Das 6 Pro today I am very new to this game (in fact this was the first time with a machine polisher), when I got my car it had 2 long scratches going from front back, not being totally au fait with detailing got so I T cut I then ended up with 2 long scratches and a lot of abrasive swirls from the T cut. I have a nasty little dent in a bad place on the bonnet, so it has to go in for repair. This gave me free reign to test the DAs 6 Pro with no worry if I messed up. The machine came with Green, Black, white and yellow hex logic pads and cutting compound, cutting polish, hybrid compound (didn’t know what that did). Used the yellow pad and about 10 - 15 passes with extreme grade compound. This has not got rid of the scratches totally but they are barely visible. Then used the cutting polish on the whole bonnet, finishing with finish polish. I am extremely happy as the scratches are barely noticeable. So no apprehension give it a go.

In the states we gave a place called Harbor Freight. I bought 2 of their store brand DA's for $40 after rebates. They are heavy but if your not working as a pro they're great and powerful.

My old black and decker lum is still going strong after 25 years, but it's a bit of a beast at 3.5kg. The industry was completely different back then,both products and paintwork the only things that's still the same it still takes time to do a great job and most of your customers don't really get how much work goes Into a quality finish. It would surprise you how many thought it was only a quick wash and polish and complained about having to pay £60-100 for it.
Those flex 3401 fellas are expensive as F...
Especially the brushless cordless ones!

here in australia the first machine i picked up was a makita rotary polisher at work as a budding detailer. i got around 5 min of instruction and then they let me go to work. i quickly discovered what not to do on my own. ruined quite a few paint jobs through experimentation sadly. (even my own car) the very next machine i bought for myself was the das6 pro. i wanted to make the paint gleam as they did not teach me anything at work about finer polishes or pads or even technic so i ended up spending thousands of hours on youtube learning from the gurus of detailing and now 15 years later i am like all of them with an arsenal of products, machines and knowledge. Kevin Brown (Buffdaddy.com), Larry Kosilla (AMMONYC), Mike Phillips (AutoGeek), Darren Priest (Auto Fetish Detail) and Chemical Guys were my mentors and now Forensic Detailing Channel is in that lineup. good video,I also have a cost-effective polishing machine, but it is a large foam pads, orbit 15mm,relatively small backing plate polishing and waxing faster, simpler.
What do you think to the silverline 1200 w sander/polisher as a first machine? It's very cheap but its quite good although its also quiet heavy. I've had one for years and haven't tried anything else had some excellent results and one or two disasters
It’s always good to have a bunch of tools in your arsenal but sometimes it can be over kill, it’s best to use different one’s and find what you like.

Hi, I’m looking for some advice. If, when detailing by hand only, Auto Glym’s Super Resin Polish is more for cleaning the paint and adding some wax and T Cut type products are only to be used in extreme cases, what product would you recommend for use once or so a year? I’m always happy to wax after polishing so don’t need a polish product with wax in it and whilst Auto Glym is good, I’m always disappointed with its inability to remove slight scratches/swirls. I want something one grade up, an all round specific polish that isn’t as heavy as T Cut and other compounds.
Alright guys looking for a wee bit of advice just ordered my self a flex 3401 and was hoping to ask which brand / model of pads is best suited to work with this? Was hoping to get the 4 inch adapter set and power pads that was recommended via the video from lake country which are sadly no available what's the next best thing? Thanks
Bought my first car and want to get it looking better (2003 Honda CRV) not got much of a budget but wondering if it’s better to buy a mini DA rather than the large DAS6 pro etc. for a 19 year old car the paintwork is pretty decent condition,only a couple of deep scratches with a lot of swirl scratches. I want to start with a less aggressive abrasive first,so what would be a good starting point?

Hi! Thanks for the informative blog, as someone who is returning to detailing after a 10 year gap it’s great for researching all the latest products on the market. I currently have a DA polisher in the guise of a Porter Cable 7424 which I imported from the states back yonder. I am considering purchasing a new polisher as I am getting sick of lugging the transformer around with me. Do you know if there is much performance difference between the likes of the PC and the DAS 6? Or am I better of spending a little bit more and getting the Flex for a real performance upgrade?
hey there edward, Ive not used the porter cabel sorry.. I think if you have the money Flex is always a cool option. they have a new forced rotation coming out soon and have their new range of XFE free spinning long throw machines as well.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible as just want to remove light swirling and make the paint smoother and shinny. What would you suggest to buy? Looking to maybe spend up to £75 max, but ideally little less if I can as heard most come with 6" and should get a 5" pad mount and foam pads. Which do you need the same make for a new smaller mount or do any fit?
I bought a da from argos as the das6 was out of stock just about everywhere apart from as part of more expensive kits. The argos mahine is not as powerful but obviously you can play around with cutting compounds, I went with the yellow koch as it has good reviews. The argos da came with a huge pad so I got a 5/16 thread 5" backing plate on ebay and a green hex logic polishing pad. Got this set up to correct light scratches and buffer trails on our new black car and it did a great job.
very nice informative video. i am new to car polishing with a car polisher, how many machines should I buy and why, from small to large rotational circumference head wise. from finiky corners to a normal place. any help would be appreciated. cheers.
ok so if your going free spinning DA route which 99% do. Then a 15ml throw DA (lhr15, xfe7-15, DA15) combo's with a 3 inch mini DA (lhf 75, xfe 7-12, da12) is the way to go. And later on you can add a nano tool (ibrid, pxe, carbon collective etc).
Its good news and bad news for me then, means i need to get a bigger throw if im having to do other peoples cars, didnt even get my polisher mentioned in the vid 😭 must be cheap hahaha great video

the new DA8 is a awesome choice, its like the das6 pro but with a bit more grunt and a better rubberised bail. Also has better cooling. And the price is good. I qualified and tested this tool for in2detailing and I do recomend it.

Me again......sorry! Doing my research for the Das6 pro plus polisher and a suitable mini polisher to accompany it I have stumbled across Mitchell and Kings version. I still prefer the ergonomics of the in2detailing version but the M&K one comes with U.K. sourced internals, a two year warranty and 1000 watt motor. They also do a mini polisher. Have you ever tested any of their kit. Is the in2detailing mini polisher a good buy?
ive not seen the MandK one Im sure its a good machine, but I was under the impression most of these were coming out the same factory. when buying I always just eyeball the machine to look for where the switch is and what it looks like and the model number and then I buy the cheapest one I can thats got 850w or above motor from a reputable vendor with warrenty, MandK are a brand you can trust that wont sell you junk so you can buy from them of course. Is the in2detailing mini polisher a good buy.. hell yes. Ive got a review of it coming out. Its 95quid.. yes its not quite as well made as the rupes or the flex but its 1/3 of the price.

if you just want one polisher and your budget limit is about 100 quid. Go with 8mm polisher and also get a 75ml plate for it. If you have bigger budget and you think you might want to get another mini polisher to accompany your main 15ml throw DA later. Then get the 15mm. The 15mm doesnt support smaller plates.. imagine trying to polishing like a front bump with big pads.... this is the quesiton you ahve to ask yourself.

Jon, a quick question. What would your recommendation be to take out light marks done by dealer prep on a new car, it is a black Audi? I was thinking of getting a DAS 6 Pro and using Scholl S20 Black, but would this be the correct approach? Thanks.
hey jim its hard to say without seeing what your trying to tackle.. perhaps check out perfect finish from sonax on a soft rupes yellow or a hex logic white on the das6 pro plus. this combo can cope with a fair bit but obviously is not as agressive as a 2 stage approach with heavier pads and high cut compounds. so it may not be the more efficient path.

It is light marring/scratches put on the new paint by them washing the car badly. You can see the drag marks where they have worked the dirt from bottom to top in bright sunlight.
So probably does just need a light polish, however would S20 Black be too aggressive for such.
Plus there are a few marks left from bird dirt sitting on it before delivery.
s20 would be great.. but check out sonax perfect finish. I did a video comparing both of them on the channel called clash of the titans

Tried a DAS6 but had to send it back. It vibrated like crazy where I ended up getting a buzzing feeling in my hands. I own a rotary now but I'm not using it much. I'm always worried I'll burn the paint. So I've kind of given up on detailing my car. I give it some sealant once and while. I would like try the Flex but I think it's too expensive and not very flexible when it comes to chancing to a smaller back plate
interesting J. Its hard to know if the vibration was just normal or something was wrong. I find the vibration in the DA's a bit annoying. the 3401 is pretty decent on that. but one of the advantage of the rotary is they are silky smooth.. In terms of being worried about going through the clearcoat with the rotary. Use it at 600-700 rpm and you will still cut faster than a DA but with no real additional risks around going through the clearcoat as long as you dont polish raised edges to vigoursly. You dont have to use DA's. there is no universal right I dont really use them but you can get really cool results with them still.

Yo J. you can still correct paint at 600-700 RPM for sure. in fact you can argue you dont need to crank up beyond that really.
Hi John, I'm going to dive in and get the Das pro, what pads and polish, compounds etc would you recommend. I normally wash clay polish with AG SRP then wax but want the DAS to get light swirls out plus making polishing a bit easy and quicker, many thanks Jason
hey jason Im going to try and make sure this is covered on the channel as its a really popular quesiton. so many options, but for simplicity you could god with the CG hex logic range, or the cone CG range equivalent (CG quantum pads).. Orange is a decent cutting pad that isnt too harsh. White is a good polishing pad. Abrasive wise I still tend to recomend the scholl concepts range. but theres videos on lots of other abrasives on the channel.. But using S3 gold on CG orange or yellos and S40 on white covers a lot of ground. Have a mid range 1 step type abrasive is also usefull so you could get sonax perfect or S20 black as well. videos will be coming on this and we will be comparing a lot of options.

@@ForensicDetailing Roger that Jon - I've seen from the channel that I can go over everything v. effectively with B&H cleanser or Koch Chemie Green star, but choosing going with those other 2 to finish after you're vid. Of course I did other evidence based / practice based research but you should know that Forensics is ahead of the curve. Well done. I still unsure about maintenance washes tho...
Buying my first DA machine in the next few weeks Jon, is the DAS6 pro a lot better than some of the cheaper options, the Katsu 850w for example which has had some great reviews from users for such a cheap machine?.
go DA8 from in2detailing mate. cheaper, better cooling, and proper rubberised intergrated bail.. Its a more modern machine.

What watts would you be looking at for a beginner? 650w 900w? Keep up the good work.
wattage is not that important, its how that translates into drive or torque. On free spinning machines torque is not massivly critical although its important. also one companies 900 w motor might output less torque that another companies 700w motor for example. generally with the 8ml through DA machines look for 850w or more if its a chinese tool.

yo dylanson only if you install the buffer trails with it first. slower rotational speeds and diminishing abrasives (as well as lots of other things) can stop that. have a watch of a video on the channel called "the botox effect" we delve right into this subject area. its an interesting one.
what you think to Rupes Nano hybrid mini long neck ?
theres a review on it on the channel but its not a good review. Its a cool piece of inovation from rupes. but its a bit pricey for a tool this size... but maybe one day I will get my hands on one to play around with properly
Hello, I have an older Meguiars's DA polisher (I think the MK 1) i find the vibration can be quite severe on low speeds. I've tried various pads and it always seems to be the same and after more than afew passes it can be quite uncomfortable. Can you recommend a low vibration DA?
rupes or flex mate are smoother see reviews on lhr15es mk2 or flex xfe 7-15 150. these are long throw machines.

Hi mate, I don't have a machine polisher and have noticed a faded area on my car where it's obviously been repainting it looks like a square in the door
Now I'm not sure if it's just really bad color matching or haze or anything, what is my next point of call to see what this is? Surface is smooth and you can only see this when looking straight at the car, not from angles. Any help pal?
hmm its impossible to say mate.. but it could be smart repair done bad, or could be like running low on clearcoat from too much buffing. normally you would try and buff it and see if it improves. otherwise its off to a paint shop to advise mate.

is the vertool youre referring to this one on cyc - VERTOOL® - FORCE DRIVE POLISHER ? this an 8mm throw. is that not a disadvantage over a 15mm throw NON Force Drive polishers?
its best not to compare offset of tools as your point of comparison between forced rotation and free spinning. The free spinning tools create more scrub from having a larger offset. In other words the distances the abrasives are worked or travel due to the orbit are increased. But the forced rotation advantage is the plate rotation or spin cannot be stopped or slowed down with pressure so the rotational speeds of the plate are constant. The plate rotation has more impact on "distance travelled" than orbit (pound for pound) but of course orbit speeds are higher compared to rotational speeds which are low (and pad size is a factor). But with the forced rotation you can utilise all of the dual action dynamics without "loosing" the rotation due to stall. This also allows you to utilise pressure more effectivly.
ok cool, im not sure which one to go for now. i like the price of the vertool 21 throw DA but 21 seems too high, i think 15 is a good balance as i would only be using for cars not large vans where i need to cover large area.
i had a das6 pro for 2 years that i used for headlights only and did my personal car a couple of times. i sold that and got a rotary instead for headlights.
the forced one seems like newer technology which may give me better results.
not sure which to buy.
I like the forced rotation but I like them on smaller pads.. to reduce the pull and get more control.

Hello, i'm a professional car painter, and now i'm opening a detailing shop. I have a Sagola Rotary, it's getting tired, so i want to buy a Flex Rotary and the xfe 7-15, or should i buy the makina po6000c ? Does it replaced both the Flex machines? I do a lot Paint correction, like sanding after Paint, dust specs, etc.. that's why i need the Rotary but i'm having problems with hollagrams thanks a lot for your help.
the makita is not a rotary eugenio its cannot replace the rotary its a DA with free spin and forced rotation modes. but the fre spinning mode is a bit weak. if your going pro then flex has a much wider range of machines.

no mate... not with liquid abrasives.. you can get away with real soft pan and applyig a liquid wax but even than runs a risk.

so a long throw 15ml DA combo'd with a mini DA is the general standard nowadays if your a professional detailer. But I cannot comment on the amazon makes and models without using them really.

yes mate I think thats the sensible option for a polish every couple of years or else you are spending too much money

Looking to buy a DAS6 Pro plus as an entry into machine polishing. What do I need to buy with it in terms of pads etc to ensure I cover all the bases. It will only get light use on our four cars one of which is painted in cellulose.

you can only use the 125 and 150 ml plate with it.. so really on the wings bumpers etc smaller areas you would ideally want the mini to go with it.

I will look into the cost of the mini polishers but maybe the das 6 pro is the way to go for now. If I went for a mini polisher as well which one would you recommend for a beginner?...........update. Ergonomically the pro plus looks a better machine and it certainly seems to deliver the results I am looking for more quickly. Having viewed your videos again I think the in2detailing pro plus is the way to go and if I need to I will buy a smaller machine later. A smaller machine would be handy for my Rover P6 which has a lot of fiddly returns etc.
the main reason people move on from the DAs6 pro, is if your doing a lot of paint correction as oppossed to just buzzing over it with a lighter polish.. sometimes its hard slow work cutting with them.. the das6 pro plus gives you more correction caapability you can get a bit more done... So if its just for your car you really can do so much with the DAS6 pro.. just might take a bit longer if theres lots of swirls in it or its really hard paint. I would personally prefer to have the pro plus 15 combos with the mini than just the DAS6 pro... but saying that I dont really use the free spinning machine much other than when Im demo;ing stuff on the panel.. but they are very cool

You mentioned on another video that this will use different size backing plates, does this mean the counter balance also needs changing, if so where can I get these from?
Im 99.99999% sure you dont need to change the counter weight for either of the supported plate sizes on the DAS6 pro. so its designed to be used with the 125 mill plate or 150 mill plate. Its best used with the 125 mill plate really. Imran from in2detailing can confirm if you message him tommorrow on in2detailing on facebook (he replies quicky).

How do you know if your paint is hard or soft?
if its OEM, certain brands have reputations for paint (although it can vary year to year even within models etc)... but for example german paint (OEM) tends to be harder mercedces. Japaneze clear tends to be softer etc.. if you have no knowledge of whats hard and soft. you might build knowledge by correcting lots of cars and see how much trouble you have cutting out swirls...
silly noob question: is that true you don't get any swirls with rotary? even after 2-3 wash? i guess everything looks fine with fresh polish, but after while things do show up, aren't they? what i was trying to say is: advice, mentioning always finish with da (at least when using regular polish), is correct or not?
hey its not a silly question mate its a good one. I think your asking if you finish with a rotary it looks good initially then swirls start to show up. answer is no thats not true. the abrasives are what are delivering the finish, and the rotary can work any abrasives to deliver the true finish that this product can provide. things will only go wrong on the rotary when you use it with a poor technique and over heat the paintwork. operating it at high speeds and working with faster arm machine speeds generally mean its a lot harder to get consistent results (this you can get away with because its hard for anyone to know/see the difference in results) but its the burning or hologramming of the paintwork thats the main risk. Use a rotary at lower speeds and its completly safe, easier to operate smoother, and it still cuts better than any DA. Does a DA finish out better than a rotary. not really.

@@izoyt the industry is there to sell you products, which is fine. Its done a good job of convincing people you need certain tooling and some of the reasons provided are true to a certain extent. But these "reasons" of why to pick certain tooling options or why to avoid certain tooling options are pretty minor. A rotary polisher is not expecially hard to use or master. If it was I wouldnt be using it.

I've decided to do some driveway detailing on my personal cars as something to keep me occupied in retirement. I'm in the USA and was about to order a polisher when I read that it requires 240 volt power. Is that common? I don't have that voltage anywhere near my driveway. Additionally, many specification lists don't address voltage requirements.
Most of the UK tools are specc'd for 230 volts. I think the US ones are spec'd for 110 or 220. I really dont know much about this subject area though. But in the US you have people selling the tools for the US markets. So I would buy from a local supplier in the US. If your looking at the DAS6 pro or plus you will see from the shape of the chassis that it will be the same tool. although you can ask the supplier for the model number. Im just trying to think who sells it in the US under some guide but Im not really sure. Maxshine I think though recently setup a USA store so you could buy direct from them if their price is good.

sure mate blackfire, who I think they were getting them direct from autogeek. they may well be out of stock now. they are a bit slow to respond. but you can email or message blackfire and ask. cause I bought so many it actually worked out cheaper than buying in the UK. but you have to pay inport duty on them.. its not really viable if you just want a few thats the only thing.
Agreed re the import duty. It's one of those but I can see how it would make the 3401 more user friendly especially on those curved panels. Wish they would hurry up and bring the XCE 9-8 out and incorporate that with a smaller backing plate system!
John what you say about going for a DAS6 Pro and a DAS6 Pro Plus 15"? I am a beginner but will become a pro and will be polishing almost or on a daily basis soon.
if your going pro then taking the plate off the normal das6 pro is too much ball ache mate so yer go dual wield :) 15 throw and 3 inch mini polisher mate
