Possibly. I've had no issues and I haven't read of anyone else having issues with their EV6/Ioniq 5 with it. I think a big part of the 12v issue is the factory battery itself.
I've read somewhere that a person was having issues with his Honda-E n he changed for a lithium 12v bat and even the sound was better lol he said... so after 1 year how is it going?
Jeff I did get 33,000+ miles on the OEM battery. Just wanted your subscribers to know. I do drive the car a lot and very happy so far Thanks to you for keeping us up to date with the software updates and technical service bulletins 👍🏾Thanks Jeff
Great video Jeff. Your channel always provides useful information about the Kia EV6 world. The issue with any Lead-Acid battery is it does not like when discharged below 50%. And, I have seen that the Kia 12v battery management system does not take that into account. As such, even after the first near full discharge, the battery health is degraded significantly. So, anyone that experiences a 12v battery dead event, it is more than likely to occur more frequently, and time to consider replacing it. AGM's tolerate these types of events slightly better, but will also suffer if discharged below 50%. Going with LFP will reduce the degradation issue as they are designed to tolerate near full discharge events better. Even LFP does degrade over time when fully discharged, but we are talking about thousands of discharges rather than a handful. So the switch to LFP will help, but you still have to look at all opportunities to reduce 12v battery drain, and use best practices of allowing the EV6 to top off the battery. Plugging in your car at home often (if you can) will help a lot. A lot of low amperage, short-stroke charging sessions to the drive motor battery is better for it, and it also tops off the 12v at the same time.
Another perfect video. I really appreciate the complete directions "slide the battery for, tilt back side up". I've seen other repair videos that skip over the tweak your arm a bit this way parts, and that normally adds two hours to a short repair. Thank you again.
Excuse a question, they told me that when you do not replace the original battery that the manufacturer recommends and put another battery, it could affect the large 77 kw battery and you would lose the warranty, that is the problem because this ohmmu company does not have any warehouse that guarantee because according to google maps it shows that the address they have is a garage and there is no sign of the ohmmu brand.. those are the doubts.. I wonder about so many batteries that were sold for the kia ev 6, none of them had issues ..
The same manufacturer recommends that if you change the battery for another that is not the original. You can damage the large 77kw battery... I wonder why they don't upload a video with the ohmmu battery in the kia ev6 but it has already traveled many miles and nothing has happened to the large battery... and other components, as this would ensure better performance. ohmmm what do they sell that would be better on the market... because everyone speaks well about the battery but there is no person who asks questions like that...
I don't know how changing the 12v battery to another one well within the voltage parameters of the factory battery could possibly cause damage to the high voltage battery.
Another great video. I have not had problems with my 12V like others seem to have had. This is good to know there is an alternative out there. Just want to make sure it works well with the platform and software within the main battery and vehicle.
Thanks! Yeah I haven't had issues either, but figure this is more preventative. And with it lasting so much longer, it should even out cost wise. And yeah I agree. It does have a built in battery management system so it should do well. It also has a higher capacity and less voltage sag so there shouldn't be any issues.
Jeff maybe you can shed some light on this battery question. I’m getting a replacement battery from Kia for my EV 6 wind. Warranty replacement. If you were to take a trip for 2 weeks, and leave the car home. Would you 1) disconnect the battery with the lever you lifted to change the battery, 2) leave the car plugged in to 80% charge and 3) does leaving the key in the car cause use of 12 volt power while the car is waiting for instructions. After the warrant change I will go to the Li battery. I do keep a jump charger in the car and it works well. Thanks “woody”
If I'm leaving for a couple weeks I charge up to about 80% and unplug the car and everything inside (obd2 reader, infotainment adapters) and just leave it. The car should be fine. I wouldn't leave the key in it as I have heard (but not tested) it keeps the car awake, at least somewhat.
Thanks for this very clear and concise video! I'm replacing my wife's 2022 EV6 12 battery today with an AGM Diehard 12 volt. We wanted a Lithium like the one you used, but we had to buy local and quickly since our current battery was dying mult times a week. We'll definitely go Lithium on our next 12 volt battery. Thanks again!
I'm glad to help! AGM batteries are definitely a solid upgrade over the factory unit. It should be more reliable. I love the Ohmmu LFP though. It now has bluetooth monitoring built-in as well as self-heating, which is great. Definitely keep it in mind for the future 👍
@@TechnicallyJeff I was concerned since we live in the north east where we have really cold winters and didn’t know how lithium ion phosphate would work during the winter months. Hopefully the top of the line die hard battery that we got will give us a better experience. Thanks again for excellent video. I installing the new battery right now.
Yeah supposedly the batteries have been tested to perform fine below 0, but the self-heating was added to give more peace of mind. But yeah the die hard should do well. Good luck with the install. Let me know if you have any issues 👍
@@TechnicallyJeff install complete. Took five minutes from start to finish. It’s funny how the owners manual has nothing about replacing the battery. Thank you for letting us know about the high-voltage disconnect in the fuse box. The only minor issue I had was removing and installing the battery - the front molding is so tight that I had to turn the battery 90 degrees and pull it out with the positive side facing up and then install the new battery with the negative side, facing down going in first. Then rotated it inside the tray and locked everything down. Good news is the car is back up and running and wife is all happy Thanks again!

This is definitely a great battery, but very expensive. I have a Megapulse battery refresher installed in my EV6 two years ago and the 12 volt battery is still in excellent condition to this day.
Yeah it's not cheap, but it is a great battery. Since doing this review they've added bluetooth monitoring built-in (I have a separate video on that ) and self-heating. I haven't really looked into the megapulse battery refresher. It looks interesting though.
@@TechnicallyJeff I used the Megapulse Refresher in different cars since about 20 years und never had problems with the 12 Volt battery in all these years.
Really appreciate the great install video! I haven't experienced any 12v issues (knock on wood), but great to know that I have a LiFePo option for when I eventually do need to replace mine. Thanks!
Bought this battery after an ICCU failure. Unwittingly also found solution to our next ICCU failure. There is a switch on the app to enable discharge. Turns out the car is a huge battery vampire even when off. We found that by toggling the enable discharge when parked, the battery maintains charge. It will recharge when driving. Super bummed that the app didn’t warn me with an alert that my battery was at 8 volts, however after a recharge with regular car battery charger, the switch for enable discharge has prevented further problems. Hope the April 2024 recall finally fixes this problem. Love the battery, love the app, just need to check frequently as the app won’t alert you independently to issues without having the app open.
Yeah that switch will work to keep it from discharging. Do you have something drawing power in the car though? It shouldn't be pulling power. And yeah the Ohmmu app connects via bluetooth to your phone. It doesn't have an internet connection. You'd have to be manually connected to it to see it's voltage. That said, the vehicle has the ability to send low 12v battery voltage notifications. Is that enabled in your settings?
Jeff I just crossed 33,000+ miles on my Kia EV 6 wind AWD. I started the car and got a red 12 V battery warning. I checked the voltage and it was 7.8 volts and would not start. I jumped it with a portable charger and was able to start and move the car several times and after charging the EV to 80% I started it again without a warning. I did not drive any distance. Is there a 12 volt battery warranty. I know they provide a low level adequate battery so I’m going to have the battery tested as well as the EV to 12 volt charging system (orange light). Does replacing the 12 volt battery void the warranty esp the Li battery? Have you ever seen this warning light before? Thanks
That's annoying you had that issue. Unfortunately it's fairly common. There is a 12v battery warranty so you could take it to the dealership. Regarding replacing it with a battery like the Ohmmu, it doesn't impact the warranty (except the 12v battery warranty wouldn't apply to it). It's a direct replacement.
Thanks for the video, Jeff! Does pulling the yellow tab or disconnecting the 12V battery kill any of the settings of the infotainment system, i.e. do I need to reset my radio stations afterwards, etc.?
This is the battery that I plan to get for my EV6 when my 12V dies. I haven’t had any issues with my current battery, yet, so I figured I’d wait. Though, it might be a good idea to replace it before a problem occurs.
Got my new Kia dealer battery under warranty 34000 miles. Hope to get another 34000 but they only warranty was 12 months 1 year, really. Next time it either AGM or LI ion.
Hey Jeff, any ideas to get remote heat with using only the key fob? I couldn’t bring myself to agree to the lack of privacy agreement, so I can’t use the app…. I live in Buffalo, Brrrr 🥶
Using the keyfob, if you do the remote start (lock, then hold remote start button) it will turn on whatever the last setting you had for hvac in the vehicle.
@ it didn’t work a couple weeks ago. I’d leave the heater on and the lights blinked correctly but no heater. I had the ICCU recall done and there were two software updates…poof, heater! Thanks Jeff. They said I needed a Cabin filter. I laughed because I had the one you showed and it took five minutes 😃
Jeff, how many miles do you have on your EV six since you put in the lithium ion battery? And does it seem to hold a higher charge when you check the battery voltage every once in a while when it’s off. Just checking to see how the investment is I did get a new battery from Kia, but it’s the same old lead acid battery. I will upgrade when my other one fails.
I've had my current one in there for about 15k miles. No issues at all. Yes it's voltage stays higher. The LFP battery has a higher usable capacity than the factory lead acid battery.
There are a lot of options out there. The size is H5. AGM batteries are popular because they are relatively inexpensive and reliable. The Ohmmu is really nice though. Great power, lightweight, built-in bluetooth monitoring, and now it has built-in self heating.
Jeff just let all the ev6 and other EV drivers to have a jump starter ready. Especially if they have several miles 30,000 on the odometer. The car just wakes up and goes. It dose t need a high amp jump charger but if you also own an ICE car it would help. I have one in all my vehicles.
It's working great. Zero issues whatsoever. I very very rarely even see the yellow light that it's being charged by the high voltage battery. I highly recommend it. Especially as they've added features like built-in Bluetooth monitoring, self-heating, etc.
Jeff I recently traveled and did not move my EV6 for 1.5 weeks. I left with 80% and returned with 80% (not plugged in). Should I disconnect the 12 volt battery. I thought the 12 volt charging system should keep the 12 volt battery charged. I drove it several miles without issues till yesterday. Also when you changed out your battery did you have to reset electronic setting in the car? Thanks
The vehicle should keep the 12v battery charged. There shouldn't be using power that would deplete the 12v battery anyway. Regarding the electronic settings, no the vehicle saved everything.
@TechnicallyJeff: Are you still enamored with the Ohmmu battery for your EV6? Thinking about purchasing one for my '23 Wind AWD (and your discount code still works and I'm near Prescott, AZ so I can do free pickup) as I'm getting a little skittish about the stories both on youtube and the kiaev6 forum about the OE battery just crashing. Do you think it's worth it for twice the cost of a decent AGM battery and that the bluetooth is valuable? Thanks, in advance, for your reply.
Yes I'm still very happy with it. I got it for my new GT and I definitely trust it more than the factory. They also have added self heating in addition to the bluetooth so it's great all around. I also like that it can be drained to 0% and not be damaged. Comparing it to AGM, it is better and lighter. Both are better than stock. I'd definitely get at least an AGM. If you can afford it, I'd get the Ohmmu. Hope that helps!
Great idea to replace the OEM 12v battery with a higher quality one Jeff. Any reason you did not use any anti-corrosion treatment on the battery posts before installing the cable connections on the new battery?
Does the E-GMP platform battery preserver charger charge these batteries ok? Just wondering since it may be configured to charge lead acid batteries and wondering if it charges these batteries with different chemistries without issues? Thank you.
Ny factory 12v battery can power my front dash cam but when I add the rear dash cam, it is unable to power them both. Can this battery help power both?
When shopping for replacement LifePo4 battery what do you look for? Why did you go for Ohmmu? Ohmmu website gives you no stats to compare and contrast with similar brands. Also what kind of Lithium Battery Charger do you need for this battery? I am looking to replace my lead acid battery for my EV6 Wind Tech pkg and also read about you should use a Lithium battery charger but they are not many to choose from, plus very expensive. I finally opted for the CTEK Lithium charger but it chargers up to 4.5 amps. Are there faster chargers and at what cost? I would like your opinion on this matter and insight. Thanks. Maybe you could review something. Regards!
Hey Harold - great questions! I honestly had heard of Ohmmu a while back and read good reviews about them. Then I got into a discussion with them about their batteries. They don't give stats because in their opinion, there is a lot of inconsistent measuring done. They did advise that their battery has a reserve capacity of 100 minutes. That's the easiest thing to compare to other batteries. As for charging, the car charges the battery itself. If it needs a jump, I have a portable battery pack I got off amazon. It doesn't actually require much power to jump the car and then it will trigger the charging.
Thanks for the reply. I did buy a ohmuu battery for my EV6, will be delivered hopefully this week. I know ohmuu is very popular as replacements in Tesla vehicles. I just would like more info to have comparisons to make good decisions. When you spend about $450 for a battery, it better be worth it! I still would like info on Lithium battery chargers. I can’t seem to find much on this subject. I know the ev6 supposed to charge battery but what happens if you accidentally run it down, like I did by forgetting to shut off on/off switch. Hardest thing to remember for me coming from Tesla-no switches!
Yeah I know what you mean. For the chargers, there isn't a lot of info out there. I know it doesn't take much to jump our cars though. I got a cheap one off Amazon I keep in the frunk. Doing a quick search, this one looks good. Lots of good reviews and fairly inexpensive. amzn.to/41TQxxy
generally speaking they do not love the cold. I had done some research on these batteries as a replacement for my snowmobile. What I learned is if you are having any issues due to cold temps you simply have to put a small load on them, say turning on your headlamps. this creates a chemical reaction within the battery witch creates enough heat to get it back into operating temp. I will try mine out for the first time coming up in about 3 weeks. If I get left stranded in the cold trails I'll report back.
Hello. my battery just dieded andI am trying to find out what type of battery I have. but all I see is delkor clarios. do you know what type it is? appreciate the help.
Is this the battery that runs the whole car? Lol. I just bought a 2022 EV6 Wind AWD. I’m just absolutely clueless with technology. I did manage to learn how to charge it but I’m definitely watching your videos for tips on driving and maintenance. Thanks Jeff!!
Does replacing the 12V battery affect all the previous setting (lost all the previous stored settings) that you have set with the car? (like the radio stations ? car seat position? etc.)
No you're permitted to change the 12v battery and this is a direct swap. The only impacted portion would be the factory 12v battery warranty wouldn't apply to the new battery.
Any issues or downsides to this? My ioniq 5 12v died and they replaced it but I have a feeling it’s going to happen again eventually and I don’t like having to worry about it
Sorry to hear that! I haven't heard or seen any issues. They've actually done a few updates since this video. It now has built-in bluetooth monitoring (check my other video) and self-heating.
I haven't really noticed any difference, which to be honest is what I'd hope for. Ideally it'd work well and last a long time, and not have any of the 12v issues others have had.
@TechnicallyJeff thanks Jeff! Are you still using it? Any issues ? I have read a reddit thread about ohmmu batteries quality, and it has been mentioned that inside is a cheap Chinese battery hardware/materials. I am thinking just go with a good AGM battery instead.
Yep I'm still using my Ohmmu (I got one after this one that has bluetooth built-in - it's another video - still been using well over a year). The post you're referring to I believe is referencing a tear down video where Ingineerix took apart an Ohmmu battery. That was a very old design though. I've seen the inside of newer batteries and they look much better. They also have self-heating and bluetooth monitoring built-in now.
Very happy with my Ohmmu. Thanks for watching! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for more videos 😀
so the issue of 12v might be resolved by the uprade?
Possibly. I've had no issues and I haven't read of anyone else having issues with their EV6/Ioniq 5 with it. I think a big part of the 12v issue is the factory battery itself.

That's decent. Honestly it should last several years though, mileage doesn't impact the 12v that much.

How many volts does the lithium ion battery hold > 12 volts or just under 13 volts?
I'd have to look. It's within normal specs though. Usually when the car is on its in the 13 range.

Do you know, is the OEM battery is AGM?
It is not. It's a regular lead acid battery.
I know that it’s an a gel battery and die hard has some with 800CCA versus the OEM 550CCA.
Yeah very smart. I have one in mine too
Jeff, how is the battery holding up ?

Yeah definitely. Honestly I haven't noticed any kind of corrosion so I didn't worry about it. If I start to see any I will though.
The environment under the hood of an ICE vehicle is so different it might be just fine.
Yep good point.
Does the E-GMP platform battery preserver charger charge these batteries ok? Just wondering since it may be configured to charge lead acid batteries and wondering if it charges these batteries with different chemistries without issues?
Thank you.
Yep it charges these batteries fine.
What’s the max amp output on this battery?
I think I read 100A, but I'm not positive. You could email Ohmmu and see what they say.
How long is warranty
4 years
Ny factory 12v battery can power my front dash cam but when I add the rear dash cam, it is unable to power them both. Can this battery help power both?
The factory 12v should be able to put out plenty of power for both
When shopping for replacement LifePo4 battery what do you look for?
Which model is this please? My cellphone monitor is too small, can't read the description. Sorry to bother you.
Which model battery? It's the Ohmmu H5. The link in the description will take you right to it.
Thank you, sir.
No problem
How do these batteries perform compared to standard lead acid batteries in the insanely cold temperatures like we just had?
Good question. They've been tested in the cold. But I haven't seen how they do in significantly below zero temps personally.
generally speaking they do not love the cold.
Oh really that's interesting
Hello. my battery just dieded andI am trying to find out what type of battery I have. but all I see is delkor clarios. do you know what type it is? appreciate the help.
Is it an EV6? If so, it's a H5 size. The Ohmmu I have is linked in the description.
Do you lose all the radio presets and stuff when you take the 12 volt battery out?
Nope I didn't lose anything luckily
If I may enquire the possibility in purchasing one in the UK please?
I'd reach out to Ohmmu and see
@@TechnicallyJeff Thank you very much, sir.
No problem
Is this the battery that runs the whole car? Lol. I just bought a 2022 EV6 Wind AWD. I’m just absolutely clueless with technology. I did manage to learn how to charge it but I’m definitely watching your videos for tips on driving and maintenance. Thanks Jeff!!
no, the big battery is on the floor of your car, between the 4 tires
Haha no this is the 12v battery for accessories and starting the car. The big battery is very large (like 1k lbs) and under the vehicle.
@@TechnicallyJeff Ohhhhh!! Okay thanks Jeff!! I have to ask these things!! LOL
@@jasongordon1449 Thanks. Lol
no problem!
Does replacing the 12V battery affect all the previous setting (lost all the previous stored settings) that you have set with the car? (like the radio stations ? car seat position? etc.)
Nope not at all luckily :)
@@TechnicallyJeff Thank you.
Of course
Does this not affect Kia warranty?
No you're permitted to change the 12v battery and this is a direct swap. The only impacted portion would be the factory 12v battery warranty wouldn't apply to the new battery.
@@TechnicallyJeff I’m in the UK and had the battery die twice. I wish this was available in the UK.
Oh no that's awful. They can't ship to the UK?
Any issues or downsides to this? My ioniq 5 12v died and they replaced it but I have a feeling it’s going to happen again eventually and I don’t like having to worry about it
Sorry to hear that! I haven't heard or seen any issues. They've actually done a few updates since this video. It now has built-in bluetooth monitoring (check my other video) and self-heating.
Did you notice any difference in driving efficiency?
I haven't really noticed any difference, which to be honest is what I'd hope for. Ideally it'd work well and last a long time, and not have any of the 12v issues others have had.
Batteries like that should well outlast the 4 year warranty
Yeah they should last a very long time.
Who knows how many ah does this batter have ?
They don't provide that figure. I think it's around 50 Ah. It does have more usable capacity than the factory lead acid battery though.
@TechnicallyJeff yes that's exactly the video with the tear down! Thanks Jeff. I might consider one.
