Thank you very much! I'm Mexican and in my trip to Italy, I've been scammed like two times, and seriously, they are just annoying! I only advice to stay away from them and say "No" because I lost money (About 6 Euros) with their scams :(
First vlogger I found, who doesn't discriminate in choosing the countries, and holds the prejudice.
For him, scammers are there in each country and not all the people in that country are scammers.
No superiority complex that an European country is scam free, or only Asian countries run scam.
He gets that some apples that are bad everywhere, and not all are bad one one place and some country is perfect.

I am Italian and 70% of tourists would not recommend a trip in Italy and would not come in Italy again. They are right and this is a huge shame but our politicians let that tourists are scammed with any kind of fraud. As an Italian i just want to apologize to you all.

I've been to Italy twice and although I ran into a few potential scams, it was nothing that even a slightly streetwise traveler cannot handle.

I live in Italy and this guy Is legit, i gotta admit his tips are pretty useful. What i just suggest Is to ignore them and they won't cause trouble. Also, don't skip the line in the supermarket, ask the person in front of you. Don't be the asshole
100%agree skipping lines makes him look so bad. Also his constant lies and the fact he feels good about it.
He comes of aggresive like a homeless alcoholic, thats why they gave him the beer to skip issues.

I'm surprised that the "Centurions" are no longer around The Colisseum, guys dressed as historical roman soldiers that would jump in the frame when taking a selfie, or put their helmet on you "for a great picture" and demand 10 Euros from you afterwards!
Likely their costumes are also not even accurate and is more in line with Greek armour

Love travelling around Italy, Rome, Florence, Venice, etc... Last visit was mid 90's, there were beggars (who would get picked up by SUV's and the end of their shift) but no scammers like what you see now and crowds were doable. Shame, I wish the Italian police would make more of effort to control the scammers. Most are not Italian and probably there illegally.

This is great, useful information. But...it's kind of hard to see you being rude at the store. I can't understand why you have the privilege of not standing in line with everyone else. I understand being rude to the scammers, but you were rude to the whole store. This is the 1st one of your videos I've seen and I can't pass judgment on someone over a 15 minute video and nothing else so please don't think I'm judging you (I get the feeling you don't let other people's judgments get to you anyway) on that note though I was just wondering is it a cultural difference? Last time I was in Rome , tickets for colosseum were FREE from a booth around the corner . Get the tickets and you walk straight in, you don't need to queue. You don't need a guided tour from anyone. So should be NO COST.

@@AStupidTourist It may have changed , because touts were always getting free tickets and then selling tours at 15 Euros a pop. However about 400 meters away around the corner, other side of the road is a government booth where you get tickets. I was going to pay but was told they are free. The same applied at the Vatican , it is free but touts are selling unofficial tours. Maybe the city decided to charge because the touts were anyway.
They've never been free, just if you were to come on specific Sundays of the year, it may be the reason

Tip: There an Air BnB near that supermarket called Colosseum Corner. It's quite inexpensive and has good views if you get a corner room. They also have meal coupons for breakfast at the Cafe down the street and drink coupons for a bar downstairs.

i went to united states california and people their are rough some one tried to scam another person and the guy that was from california beat the scammer up pretty bad,the scammer said he was from europe to the police and the police told him well if you dont wannna get killed dont do that here.The americans dont really take no shit,it made my trip exciting,thanks san jose california and united states,new york was really nice to but some rough people their also.

Just came back from 5 weeks in Italy, it is still the same, the police are doing nothing, the worst ones are the guys with the bad prints of Italy, they lay them on the ground so you will step on them and damage the prints, then…yes, demand money for damage. There were police everywhere there, and like I mentioned before, they do nothing.I had the drug guy wanting a signature, the bracelet guys were everywhere but also annoying are the trinket sales people all selling the same thing. Florence has the leather guys. They can spoil a great holiday, it is an amazing place

I can't believe that in '79' there were no lines to any of this area in Rome and we even parked our car next to the Colosseum. It's a lot more traffic and I don't remember that wide boulevard being there. Glad we spent the summer then instead of now.

Oh man! I encountered this scam last year in Venice. Initially I thought it was legit. But as soon as they asked for a donation I realised they were scammers.

I took a group tour and I got into the Colosseum within about 15 minutes. Group tours are the way to go. Going solo and waiting in that long queue is horrible.

My experience 10y ago from Rome was amazing. It was my first trip ever and I didn't prepare for this scam city. I got scammed twice within 20 minutes. First gladiators - it was 20€ for 4 pictures on my phone and afterwards that stupid bracelet scam that was another 40€. I was a total noob. Lesson learned.

What a difference between now and 79. We were able to park right near to the walls of the Coliseum and walk in and out as we pleased. No long lines and no scammers in sight.

Number one thing all scammers will do is say (before u sign ur name) that they aren't asking for money but as soon as u start writing ur name they say "a tip would be nice" which technically means "we are asking for money but u don't have to give us" but they expect u to give them money and when u don't, they get frustrated. This is cuz they think u will give them money since they use guilt trip and empathy techniques by sharing things that personally happened to them like "oh i used to be a drug abuser" even tho they were never drug abusers. It's all just a scam, but it's crazy how manipulative they are cuz at the start, they said that u don't need to give money but then they pressure u to once u start writing ur name. They realize by u writing ur name, ur engaging in it, so they think it will be easier to persuade u once u give even a slight bit of attention.
"Where are you from my friend" : none of your business!
They ask that on purpose, to establish your an out of towner. The next questions are usually when did you arrive and how long are you staying? With this information, and how you answer, they can discern how easy it will be to rip you off.

I was there in 2019 and had no problems. These people were there, but I just ignored them. I was accosted by gypsies in several cities in Spain as well and they go on to someone else if you firmly tell them no. Just don't let them get too close to you and always watch your valuables.

I just got back from Italy and some of the front waiters at the restaurants are big scammers. They stand on street and try to get you in their restaurant. When I'm hungry I'll find food. Went into one place they had no wine on their list. Waiter said I'll fix you up. Luckly I asked how much before he opened the bottle. 130 euro lol I said no then he found a 30 euro wine.

I went to Rome this year and the street guys were selling water for €2 still but that’s the going rate at any vending machine/restaurant anyways now at least
I haven't been to Europe in a few years but when I was a bottle of water in the supermarket was 60 cents

nick zito was in nyc back in October. Was walking through soho when somehow one of these guys knew where I was from and said he was cousins with a famous basketball player from my high school. Really scary to think that somebody was following my mom and I around the city for just a couple bucks.

Now, the only thing with the selling water and Gatorade, if you go to any event anywhere, there’s always an upcharge of drinks. There’s a convenience of getting it right then and there vs going across the street. I’d pay for the convenience.

I've just come back from Rome and came across many of these scammers. I wondered if the bottled water being sold was just ordinary tap water so I didn't buy any. I suppose if people were desperate enough, they would. I saw the water standpipes with the free water though. One guy dressed as a gladiator was told by one family to go away and he got quite nasty. I heard him mention the word "bast ardo" anyway as they ignored him and walked away. One of the worst places was the Sant'Angelo Bridge (Bridge of Angels) where the free bracelet guys seemed to be out in force. I think Lautari is actually a real charity that helps recovering drug users, but whether these guys actually work for them or not is anyone's guess! I encountered them down a dark alley near the Pantheon which made me suspicious! It was good that those security guys turned up around the Colosseum. To be honest, I never once saw the cops approach these people anywhere. They just seemed to stand around talking among themselves. I thought of reporting that gladiator to a bunch of them, but didn't see the point. I doubt if they would have done anything.
Always keep a smile on your face when dealing with scammers. If they say they have four children, say you have four children also, what a coincidence! :) and walk off. Also, anyone that asks where you are from is a massive red flag :D

I was in Rome 25 yrs ago, i swear it was nearly empty...at least on the street. Inside the Colisium (spell?) There were tourists like myself but it was so calm and not crazy crowded. Amazing how things have changed.

The thing about these petitions is, as a tourist, your signature means nothing. I was in australia and someone asked me to sign something for no money, and I was like ''ah... sure...'' but then they were like, wait where are you form? America. and they said, oh no, you are a tourist, we can only take signatures from citizens. I was glad to run into that guy, because that's honestly how these petitions work in real life... otherwise these people would just be filling out the petitions with fake names anyhow. don't sign stuff, don't join stuff, don't give your money to anything. I had a friend in high school raise money at a grocery store for her disabled brother to go to basketball camp. he didn't want to go... so she kept all the money. i'm so skeptical of where all my $$$ goes now.
Also if they manage to pickpocket your wallet with credit cards they now have a copy of your signature too

The water comes from the water sources of the hills around Rome via the ancient aqueducts. (At least I have read this.)
If men want to carry wallets in their front pant pocket instead of a inside shirt neck wallet on a string, remember to put several rubber bands around your wallet. Rubber and cotton stick and you will feel someone tug your wallet inside your pockets. Also another tip we do is get small locks and lock your backpack zippers together. Keep the key in your "around the neck, inside your shirt wallets". We travel Europe all the time, and once on a train in Rome, a pickpocket tried to unzip the backpack reaching around to my hubby's lap, that pickpocket didn't see the locks on the zipper and GOT NOTHING!

I nearly had a fight with a gypsy woman in tenerife in 2013 because she randomly started braiding my hair whilst i was sitting down near a beach. She asked me to pay her and she basically tried to cut the braid off whilst it was in my hair

My last time in Rome was in September 1997. Our first day in the outer suburbs, we stopped at a supermarket to load up on supplies to see us through to Oktoberfest in Munich. It was a Sunday afternoon. We came back to the parking lot and someone had stolen our van ( with clothes, backpacks,photos, shoes,sleeping gear. We had our passports on us, thank goodness, but this was standard practice for whenever we left the van etc)..., most likely gypsies according to the local Police (who initially didnt believe us). We had got 4 months worth of travelling through Europe at this point. Rome was still a highlight for me as I love classical studies, antiquity and the ruins. It was busy but not as busy as per this video. Some local expats threw us a party and we were given clothes to continue our travels. Had a great time!

Just two months prior we had been in Barcelona with three other vans filled with people from all over the southern hemisphere and parked them in what we thought was a safe spot. We had all gone out to some local bars/clubs and arrived back to find some North African types breaking into one of the vans. I was in the third taxi that arrived and opened the door to see one of my friends on the ground wrestling with one of the would be thieves. The thief's friends were throwing rocks at us and we were throwing them back ( across a large square/forecourt area in the middle of some apartments). All the while our buddy and the thief were going at it in the middle of this square . The police were called who arrived and arrested the thief we managed to catch. The others disappeared into the night.

Once I went to Paris I had this group of teen girls came out of nowhere. I was separated from my family that I came with and I was far behind them. The girls came to me and one of them kissed my cheek and showed me a card with names with donation. I said I got no money with me so they got pissed and cursed right away.

Got back from Rome last month, I really enjoyed it. It is ridiculously busy but I bought those skip the line tickets, which themselves are borderline scams. But the history is interesting to me, enough to make the hassle worth putting up with.
I always like looking out for scams when visiting cities, this sign against drugs was the one I saw the most, must have gotten stopped over a dozen times over 1 week. I told them I like drugs.
Saw a couple bracelet guys just didn't make eye contact with those ones I hate their hyper friendly demeanor, can't even be bothered interacting with them.
The bridge leading to the castle San Angelo was like a fucking gauntlet. Scammers every few steps and they seemed to have a pretty good success rate. Especially the bracelet guys.

I'm leaving Firenze right now and this morning we saw two guys of Lautari at the entry of the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte. First I thought it was where they sell the tickets but according to internet, the entry is free, so I went to the door to see what was that and I recognized the name and logo from this video, so I just passed by without paying attention, they were busy with another tourist so they didn't say anything to me.
Be careful, everything is well thought, at first they put their table in a site where the police doesn't go often and at the entrance of an important building to make you think the entry is not free, so you ask them if it's free before entering and as long as you started the conversation you will feel safer than if they just approach you, and that's how they trick you to sign the form and once your data is there and not before, they ask for a tip. It's a kind of sales funnel. They even use credit card, so don't say: "I don't carry money with me", just say "no, I don't want to give any money". I don't know if it's legit, but the way of getting your money is way too aggressive and shady. Just search them on Google maps and see all the bad reviews written by people who have felt scammed by these guys.
To be fair. The overpriced water is everywhere. I've seen it in miami, Vegas and New York
