It's easy man. The fun part comes when you drop a valve lol. Can't beat that low end tourqe tho. I love 2s and 4s. I love all moto tbh

Did he not drain the oil from the motor before? I think it’s time for a valve adjustment on my 2020 CRF250RX! It’s at the point where it doesn’t want to start when cold. Pete’s cycle charges me a fortune every time I take my bike in for any repairs! And they have my bike for a month or longer which I can’t stand. This video along with my owner manual should make it possible for me to do it myself! Thank you Rocky Mountain for your videos and parts supply!

I’m having an issue trying to get a reading on the clearances. I can’t get a feeler gauge of any size in anywhere. I feel like my bike is much different than the one in the video. I have a 24 crf250r and your feeler has to make over a 90 degree bend 3 inches down the case. How in the world am I supposed to measure that?

So just to clarify for example the intake should be between .08 to .14. I have always rode Kawis and that is how the valve clearances are stated in their manuals. So this whole time ive been on a honda ive set the clearance between .11 to .03 which i thought seemed odd. And i have asked a few other mechanics and that is how they do it as well. I wish Honda could just write an actual value instead of this plus or minus shit. Im glad i watched this though thanks for the good videos

So I'm new to this maintenance stuff, so basically you have to figure out that clearance and do that math equation to find out what you need. I dont really know what was going on in that part of the video or what the shims or clearance does but it seems like some crazy complicated stuff. I would think a manual would just say what size you need

I wish you woulda shown the actual cam lobe locations. I BELIEVE the exhaust cam had slipped in the gear on my bike. But I'm not 100%. I can't find a dam picture or video of the cam lobe locations at tdc compression for a 2021 crf250rx. Mine the exhaust lobe is at about 11 o'clock (standing on left side of bike) and the intake lobe is at 3 o'clock. I was expecting to see a 3 and 9. Or maybe a 2 and 10. But not 11 and 3... is this right? Is the intake cam that far advanced?

How many hours to do a valve adjustment?

    • @rmatvmc

Honda recommends checking the valve clearance every 6 races or 15 hours. If you're not racing your bike hard, you can likely go longer but it's a good idea to check often to avoid a bigger/more expensive problem.
