Just so you know I think these are the best videos ever. Saved me a LOT of confusion and possibly money.
I did a piston swap myself with no instruction whatsoever two days before this video was made, it took damn near forever to figure everything out myself. This would have been so helpful but I suppose my 450 is running strong now anyways so oh well lol next time I'll use this video as a guide.
This is why 2 strokes are great there so simple unlike these but dont get me wrong I love riding my dads crf250r
Amazing! No timing chain - the first wireless rocker ?
Watch the other videos.
Is the base gasket ok to re-use when removing the head? Noticed on mine the cylinder lifted from the crankcase slightly on the right side.
took the left case cover o my bike. Noticed my cam chain guide was not in its holding groove behind the stator. was wondeing how can i put it back into that spot without taking off the topend. plz help
My spring seats will not come out. They will spin but they wont lift, any suggestions?
Can you take the spark plug tube out Or is it pressed in and will not come out
I’ve never honestly checked! New heads come with it but I imagine you could take it out if you really wanted to. I imagine it’s sealed in there pretty good and you won’t be able to get another one unless you buy a complete head or have one made.
how do you like get every single drop of coolant out? i cant see to do that.
Hey so my 2015 150rb was taken apart because it had some issues with the camshaft holder getting torn apart and long story short I had to replace the piston, valve, and camshaft/camshaft holder. I am having struggles trying to get the shims measured correctly. I have the cylinder head and the camshaft off the bike and I put in the new shims according to the measurements and now I over shot. I re ran the math and it still seemed correct. Do I need to have the camshaft and cylinder head on the bike connected to the timing chain and the bike in TDC to be able to get correct readings when measuring the shims.
You absolutely have to lock the cam in the TDC position. Pretty tough to do without the cam chain locating it to the crank position mark.
@@CoteMotorcycles what was super weird was that three of them were to spec. But the one exhaust valve was not. is that because it’s not on the bike and in tdc?
@@goshua13 probably not. Your shim could be dirty and not seated against the valve completely or maybe there’s some carbon on the valve face holding the valve open a bit. If the clearance is tight then you’ll need to get a thinner shim and measure from there. You shouldn’t be able to see light around the valve when looking into the exhaust port. Make sure this is correct for intake and exhaust or it’ll just pound out once you start the bike and you’ll be back to zero clearance.
@@CoteMotorcycles
Exhaust valve measurements
2 mm shim - up to .016(.40mm)
2.1 mm shim - can only go up to .006(.15mm)
Exhaust valve spec: .010
2mm
.016-.010 = .006 = .15mm
.15 + 2 = 2.15 mm
2.1mm
.006 -.010 = .004 = -.10mm
-.1 + 2.1 = 2mm
The 2.1mm shim calculation told me I should get a 2mm and the 2mm shim calc told me I should get a 2.15mm so i am very confused here.

Why leave out removal of valve cover?
check out the channel for the other videos! Sorry for the delayed reply, hope you figured it out!
thanks for watching!
cause it's just 3 bolts numbnut
Is the same procedure for crf250rally?
Hi there and do you have newer videos like for 2014 Crf450r bike ?? just wanted to now ok
What year is this from. Is it the same as 2011 onwards ?
i got 2004 crf 250r , how do i take the valve guides off?
Hi, there is a hose that comes from the right crankcase and goes to a "T" splitter then one tip goes down to the ground and the other tip seems to go up near the vent hose coming from the valve head cover, so where is to be connected that tip of the hose that goes up? or is just a vent hose? so where has to be placed? thanks in advance
Luis Aguilar That’s the crankcase breather. On most stock bikes, the breather will connect back to the air box to recirculate the vented gases back into the engine to be burned. On the Honda’s there is a spigot on the LH side of the air box in between the carb and air filter.
-Cote Motorcycles
@@goboardcanada6263 thank you, yeah I got that one that goes from the valve cover and after the Y splitter so one tip goes to the air box and the other down and seem to be cancelled by a plug, but the one I can not realize where it goes or connects is the one that comes from the right crankcase above the clutch cover and then it goes to a more like a T splitter then one tip goes down to the ground and the other tip is the one I need to know where it needs to go or connect to. This hose has two 90 degree turns just at the end.
thanks for the great videos
I have oil in the cam shaft area. Will that keep it from starting?
You want oil everywhere inside the engine. It likely doesn't start because it's : out of gas, has bad gas, carb needs cleaning or your intake valves are at 0mm clearance and need to be replaced. There could be 1000 other reasons but I would start there!
thank you guys, great video
May wanna tell your viewers to check the valve guides when pulling the valves out as well....
But what do I know..🤷🏼♂️
i live in vegas and i wanted to know how much it would be to get my little pit bike motor rebuilt and i got quoted at 3000 bucks i told them to eat shit i could buy a new bike for that price lmao
probably can buy a kit for around 750 and do it yourself however that isnt that simple
What kind of coolant do you use?
Honestly never noticed a difference between coolants. I use automotive premixed. It's cheap and holds up forever. Thanks for watching! Please thumbs up and share!
What year is this
This particular bike is an 04 450
@@CoteMotorcycles ok. I was jw cause i am about to help out my friend who has a 17
Be nice if he mentioned the cam removal step
You could try this one or one of the other 4 I have on the channel! ruclips.net/video/NzsYANxZavU/видео.html
good .thanks very mus
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment!
how much does that job usually cost
Starting with the bike completely together the job takes about 3 hrs. Shops are charging $120/hr here, so $360+tax and materials. Definitely worth doing yourself.

i highly recommend anyone with a 2 or 4 stroke to either look at videos or get a manuel. shop rates are fukin out of sight.
right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
where can I get a tool like that?
I assume you're asking about the torque wrench. You can get them anywhere tools are sold usually. Princess auto or harbor freight will have inexpensive torque wrenches that'll do the job. Any auto parts store should be able to order them in as well.
the vavle tool can be bought from TUSK
I have a 06 crf450r
how much tork for the head
Torque in 3 stages in a criss cross pattern 15/30/44 ft/lbs.
CoteMotorcycles 20-40-60 Nm? right? ty.
ft lb is more than a Nm. Be very careful not to over torque.
CoteMotorcycles in the maintime i solve my problem....and i discover that 1 ft\lb is 1,356 Nm so 44ft/lbs is 59 Nm....
thats allot , you sure its not 29 ft
Where the f*ck in this instruction is he removing the camschaft and camschaftchain ? Did he use an anglegrinder to do the job........... a wreckingball.............a blowtorch..............Jeez......... I'm missing an important step here
Please see the other 30+ videos explaining every procedure you might need to rebuild your motorcycle.
Cote motorcycles RUclips channel has it all.
lol I was thinking the same thing, was more confused then lost tho
We have all the videos you'll need to repair your bike. Check out our channel.
+CoteMotorcycles hey man love the videos, have a quick question what causes my oil to look like Egg Nog/milky
Is there any way I can get in contact with you? @cote
yea missed some steps for sure. Unicam lid and cam chain.
Go to my channel for the rest of the videos. There’s a video for every step leading up to this one, from taking the seat off to removing the crank shaft.
Thanks for watching!
hello
how are you?
can you help me?
got that bluetooth camshaft
haha! check out the other videos on my channel if you want to see the cam from this head.
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was asking about the valve compressor.
TUSK tools will have that, they will only want ur right leg and left arm
Man I love your videos but do you really need a 35 second intro? It's kinda long..
Valentino319. Definitely not but we're not about to change it and upload every video again! Thanks for watching!
Originally these vids were for a dvd. It’s not hard to skip forward so I’m not sure why the length of the intro matters. Thanks for watching anyways though.
@@CoteMotorcycles The intro is cool and I was showing my wife all the gripes about. She watched it and thought it was good too.
Dixon thanks buddy! It’s refreshing to hear some positivity rather than whining; especially when you put a lot of work into something that’s free. Thanks again and keep being awesome!
@@CoteMotorcycles I need to rebuild the top end on my CRF450X and found your videos the best on the internet. I almost started today, but thought tomorrow might be better. I have all the parts ( I think), but am a little hesitant.. Anyway, hope you come back making videos.
Honda crf450r not startin just rebuild but I don't no y it in start in
Tyrell Shorey could be 100 different things. I'd start with the coil connections, cam timing and valve clearance. 9 times out of 10 do it yourselfers pull the wires out of the connectors for the coils or forget to attach the ground eyelet.
really if ur doing this tho u should know how to pull the cam lol
can u guys tell me y
Ur work is of good standerd your problem is u should state what is in the vid as n9 timing or vaulve check on this vid is redick guys gunna think it must not be important to mess with this small chain we no what it is they dont !!! Could of said all timing and vaulve is in vid number x so i wasnt having to watch to many vids
must be nice have only one cam
güzel bir duygu
You skipped installing the cams and stuff. LOL
Knew I was forgetting something but it runs a lot cooler this way….
Cams and everything else are in the other videos on my channel.
wtf so the cam shaft just came off and went back on by itself? the rest is lambs play.. any video without showing how thats done is bullshit
Maybe you should watch the other videos on our channel showing exactly how to do anything you'll ever need before leaving negative comments. But thanks for watching.
so this job you are doing would be around 350 dollars? and the mechanic makes 20 an hour. the shop gets 100 an hour!!!!!!!
You shouldn't be touching an engine if you need step by step instructions, wonder if your mom has instructions on how to change your shitty diaper cry baby bitching about a free video someone took the time to make installing the cam is common since apparently you have none
