I’m very mechanically inclined but every RUclips video I watched was so fucking confusing. Thank you for the simplicity haha and informational video dude, honestly.

    When you are using the three finger trick to test if the chain has good tension, I noticed your bike is on a stand when I adjusted my chain on a stand and did the three finger trick it was perfect but when I took it off since the suspension compressed the chain is now too tight for my fingers to fit is that OK?

    • @brodyrichard263
      @brodyrichard263 4 года назад +1

      It tighten way tighter when on the ground even more when you set on it...the measurements are meant to be done on the stand your manual will tell you the specs for on and off stand

  • @jeffestrada6857
    @jeffestrada6857 3 года назад +4

    A more accurate method is to measure from the swingarm pivot to the middle of the axle. Measuring to end of the swingarm may be wrong as the manufacturing of the swingarm may be long or short on either side. Measuring from the swingarm pivot avoids this problem and ensures axle EXACTLY the same each side

    at 2:30 you mention to check the distance from the axle-block to the back of the swingarm.. would it also be sufficient to look at the marks on top of the block to check the distance on both sides? possibly with a ruler if it's in between markings?

    • @CameronNiemela
      @CameronNiemela  7 лет назад +2

      The markings on the axle blocks are used to check distance and align, but I've found them to be difficult to read and unreliable once the axle blocks get worn. It's quicker and more effective to use a ruler in my opinion.

    • @knutejay
      @knutejay 6 лет назад

      Cameron Niemela not sure if it's true for all bikes, but my blocks have marks directly on center with the axle. I use that as a datum and count marks ahead or behind center. They don't seem to wear like the other marks and are not affected by slow deformation of the blocks over time.

    It seems like it's so hard to make sure you have the nut even on both sides. The wheel moves around a ton in the video. Also the tightening in the video was uneven you did 3 turns on the left and the video clip cut at 5 turns? But then at the end you make sure the blocks are all the way forward after you do the reading. Maybe the video just seemed in weird order. So it's losen the axel nut. Then losen the locking nut on both sides? Then thread in or out the adjustment? Then push the blocks forward, do the reading, then push the wheel all the way forward with a rag (which wouldn't that throw off the adjustment and all the work you just did?) Then tighten up the axel with the rag still inside?
